Hi, I am so glad I stumbled upon your channel. I am now making a switch from Brazilian Portuguese to Spanish, and I find your vids very helpful. To me, the most difficult thing so far is the pronunciation. I love the sound of the Spanish language and yet I just can't seem to make any of it.

Excellent tips. Thank you for the video. Totally agree that written Portuguese is very different to spoken Portuguese. I remember being a bit shocked when I found out you could say eu vi ele instead of eu o vi. How would one say ‘I gave it to him’ in spoken Portuguese? ‘Eu dei pra ele’ and just forget the direct object pronoun?

Just to be clear, there are some people who still frown upon the whole “eu vi ele” thing as bad grammar. I knew a girl who complained that that was the most awful grammar mistake in Portuguese…but guess how I would catch her saying it in real conversations? ;) that’s right, the direct object pronoun isn’t used much in the spoken language.

@@DecodingWordswithAndrew Even my Portuguese teacher told me that he would never say 'tu falaste' with his friends, but rather 'tu falou' (basically because NO ONE in his region says 'tu falaste').

@@indiraconnolly2889 yeah, the vast majority of people who use tu in Brazil use it with the 3rd person singular conjugations…I’m actually planning on doing a video about this :)

@@indiraconnolly2889 BTW you'll wanna be careful how you use "dei pra ele" since it can have another meaning...I think you can figure it out :)

The more I watch your videos, the more I get the idea that Brazilian Portugues is kind of like Caribbean Spanish where people will commonly swallow the "s" in words and also say things like "como tu ta". instead of "como estas."

yep, I agree, that's a great comparison!
