Welcome! My channel's main focus is helping you learn the real spoken Brazilian Portuguese. If you're learning Portuguese because you want to learn how people actually speak in the real world, you're in the right place!
I've never found studying a new language so easy! You do a great job. My boyfriend is Brazilian and my move is ahead so before that I'm trying to learn as much as I can and your videos help a lot. Thank you! :)
Given how increasingly complex and labor-intensive it gets to create lessons that truly build on one another in a logical progression, the plan is to have 10 lessons here on RU-vid. If there's interest to go beyond that, I would consider creating a course which keeps it going...but the demand would have to be high enough for me to justify spending all that time building it. I'll probably still do similar style videos here on YT (maybe once a month), but they will be shorter stand-alone tutorials that focus on a specific topic. There are also other types of videos that I want to do that I think are important resources to have.
Kiitos, muito obrigado ❤ I previously watched your video on the pronunciation of open and closed wovels. It was confusingly difficult to distinguish between a closed sound and an open sound. But with this video, the open ”o” opened up for me when you taught to pronunciation of the word ”gosto” You are really good at teaching pronunciation 👍🏼 I also liked the recap of the previous episode (Lesson 1.), which you nicely added at the end 🥰
Tu has fallen out of use in some regions of Brazil, including most of the Southeast and the Center-West, where "você" has taken its place. It is still very commonly used in various regions of the country though, such as most of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, parts of Paraná, Rio de Janeiro city and most of the Northeast and North regions. It should be noted that in Rio de Janeiro the pronoun is frequently employed interchangeably with você. Despite the media's preference for "você", the usage of "tu" seems to have been gaining ground throughout the last few decades in Rio, being most frequent among younger speakers. According to grammars, tu should always take second person singular verbs, as is the case in Portugal and some parts of Brazil. However, in most Brazilian dialects which employ tu, it now takes third person singular verbs, like você.
Given how increasingly complex and labor-intensive these tutorials are to create, 10 is the most I'll have on RU-vid. If there's demand for me to continue the series, I would consider creating a course that keeps it going. But I would need to make sure that the demand is high enough for me to justify spending all that time creating it.
When talking to my Brazilian friend he told me to pronounce words like “Netflix” and “smart phone” with the English pronunciation because this is the correct way to say the words. The words don’t change, that’s just the pronunciation in a Brazilian accent.
Try doing a search for "assistir Netflix" of RU-vid captions here filmot.com/. and you see for yourself how many people actually say it with the English pronounciation.
@@DecodingWordswithAndrew right but is this just because they’re Brazilian speaking with Brazilian accents? Like the words are still in English they’re not translations. So I get needing to know the information so we can better understand when listening but it sounds like it’s incorrect to say it like this. Will be sure to check the link you put in the next comment, thanks for getting back to me!
Let me give you an analogy that might help you understand...think of all the words we use in English that come from other languages. Let's take loan words from French, for example. How many English-speakers actually pronounce "croissant", "ballet", "hors d'oeuvres" like a French person would when speaking to another English speaker? We would just say it with an English pronunciation.
I'm Brazilian, and I have to say, your pronunciation is impressive, sounds just like the natives'. Your teaching is also amazing, everything is absolutely correct. Congratulations on your videos and keep doing the great job! 👏
I am stunned at how good your tutorial lesson is. I have view quite a few and so far yours is unmatched. Thank you so much for helping me discover that I can really learn this language with a clearer understanding of how to pronounce my words correctly. What you are doing is amazing.
