Great information! I’ve used the milk paint and hemp oil on furniture. Great to realize I can do the same with my spoons!

Thanks so much for this, great video! I would’ve never thought of sanding paint away to get a similar to dry brushing appearance! Apologies if I missed it somewhere in the video….but is there a reason you don’t paint the bowl of the spoon? Is it just because it wouldn’t stand up to use and abuse or is it a good safety reason (or maybe just personal preference)?

Thanks a bunch for the demonstration! i have one question: how was the chestnut bark tannin solution made? i´ve tried ebonizing but have not had much success with the black tea. Thanks!
@SpoonClub
@SpoonClub 2 года назад
Hi Marl - Dave mentions the chestnut bark is ground up and then steeped in water - if you'd like more detail, it may be worth contacting him directly.

Dave, would food grade mineral oil work with the milk paint and the other solution as well or would the mineral oil not be compatible?
@DaveTheBodger
@DaveTheBodger 5 лет назад
You need a hardening oil, hemp seed oil and raw linseed oil are examples. My understanding is that mineral oil does not harden and will just wash off, it's not the best thing to use.
@Swarm509
@Swarm509 2 года назад
@@DaveTheBodger You are correct. I use mineral oil mixed with bees wax for some spoon and my cutting boards, it does eventually wash out. It is a very safe oil to use though, never goes rancid and is totally food safe so I will use it from time to time.

Great vid. Are people cool with using steel wool alchemy on food spoons? Is it no-toxic?
@SpoonClub
@SpoonClub Год назад
Hi there - you can see in the video that Dave uses the solution on the handle rather than the bowl - if you'd like more detail, it may be worth contacting him directly.

Would painter's masking tape not work instead of using insulating tape?
@rosehavenfarm2969
@rosehavenfarm2969 5 лет назад
chrissilverhand1 the electrical tape stretches a bit to make a very tight barrier. Painter's tape *may* not provide as good a barrier. Try it!
@DaveTheBodger
@DaveTheBodger 5 лет назад
In my experience it's not possible to get masking tape to provide a tight enough seal to stop paint leaking underneath. The tape is not strictly necessary. Another method is to paint by hand and carve a clean straight line after it dry.
