This is my unboxing and setting up of my new Spornia SPG-7 golf net. This net is incredibly well built and so easy to set up and take down. If you’re in the market for a budget home golf simulator or a portable golf net then look no further than the SPG-7!

Great video, thank you! I bought (a slightly used) SPG-7 yesterday, set it up in my yard, practice for an hour and LOVED it... however, I wish I saw your video before I was about to fold the net. The instructions on the paper that came with it were useless, and I struggled for about 12 minutes. I won over the net, eventually :) you made it look so easy and I will do how you did it next time. thank you!

How tall are you? Trying to see if 2.7 m ceiling height is enough for me using a driver. Thanks!

Hey mate I'm 6ft (182cm) and I am just good... I have hit the roof a few times with the driver though. It depends on height but also the way you swing the club. I've had friends over that are shorter than me but because they swing more upright in their follow through hit the ceiling every time with driver. It's definitely something you need to test.. also add in a hitting mat that is about 3-4cm thick adds a little bit as well. Cheers

Hi - thanks for a great review! Do you think this is something that could be left outside for spring/summer? (for e.g. when it could rain?)
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
Hey mate you could definitely leave it outside however I wouldn't advise it as it's not really designed for that and it would shorten the life of the product. Also although it comes with pegs and things to hold it down in high winds it might take off. For me though the best thing about this device is that I can set it up and take it down in literally 1 minute. It's honestly that quick. So it doesn't take much time to set up before hitting balls. If it was me personally I would put it up and take it down.. but say if you knew you were using it 2,3 or even 4 days in a row and the weather looked good (minimal wind and rain) I'd potentially leave it up for a few days. Cheers

What is the quality of the tri-turf?? Really considering buying it from them
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
Hey Jodes the actual turf looks and feels great as you can hit and learn different lies which is cool instead of using the in game penalties. I can't comment on the actual durability of it however as I haven't used it enough. I will say if you intend to use this on concrete as well you are going to have to add some padding to the back as it comes on a thin piece of padding and after a few hundred shots it may start to impact your joints. I'll do another video on the trip turf and the Spornia net in the near future! Cheers

Live watching this. I purchased this net during Covid and love it. I haven’t missed the net yet, but when I move further away to use my Rapsodo MLM the 58 wedge could go over if I flipped. I bought the SP-8 for a friend and you can’t miss that net. If I had the room I would get the SP-8, but the SP-7 is fantastic. I wish they would have supplied those tees when I bought. Thanks for this video!

As someone that just bought a MLM and am looking into this net, how come you have to move back? I'm guessing because the MLM needs a certain amount of distance to read the ball post impact? Thanks!

I bought the SPG-7 after extensive research into portable nets for a backyard. The key for me was the ease in the setup, and the same for the takedown in case of inclement weather. Takes a few times doing either to get the speed down, but it's quite easy and a one person job. I went to Home Depot and bought a blanket that you usually use for moving things and hung it behind the target sheet for extra soundproofing and impact. I would also say to do your research in finding a good mat to hit off of into the net. I found the mats by Sim Turf to be without equal. Their 5x5 Mega Mat is almost 3" thick and you can use a real tee in it. The mat can be set right over the front edge of the net for stability, and with the blanket I mentioned that setup doesn't move an inch , shot after shot. I find the " shank " netting they offer for $60 not worth it at all. You can get sheets of 4x8 plywood at Home Depot and put them on the sides of the net. You'd have to be the worst golfer in the world to hit one outside of that. The mat will last you for probably a minimum of 25,000 balls hitting in one spot continuously, and you can rotate it around anytime, and the blanket keeps the harder shots from hitting into the netting in the back.

Have this net and love it. However, I get lost on mats and their crazy price point. I don’t want injury, but $600+ gets crazy. Do you have a 5’ x 5’ mat to recommend that sort of matches the price point and of the Spornia SP-7? Ever tried Monster Mat? Tri Turf did not work on my garage floor. Slid too much and weird optically with just this strip. I ever bought the Rukket standing mat.
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
Yeah the mat is something you really don't want to skimp on! However I would definitely check out my hitting strip video. I have since made a new one and cut it into my mat (video coming soon). It has been absolutely amazing and I highly recommend getting or making a strip and then buying a cheaper mat to use for a stance mat. The only thing I'd say is for your stance mat try get something that's at least 35mm tall just so then it gives you a bit of room to work with for your hitting strip. Worst case you could glue some gyms mats to the base of your stance mat to build it up but that's extra work 🤣.. I also use strong double sided tape to keep my mat and impact strip from moving around.
@thegoalnet5915
@thegoalnet5915 Год назад
@@JLagGOLF I keep seeing this advise over and over, haha. I probably sound stubborn, but I like the idea of a single mat? My setup has to be taken down between uses, so a single piece seemed the most practical?
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
@@thegoalnet5915 Yeah I totally get that and I thought the same thing so I bought the premium tee turf because I thought it would provide the most cushion. If you live in America then you are in luck as there are soooo many options for good quality mats. But I would definitely not cheap out on a mat if you're going to go the one piece solution. If you want to save money then a cheaper stance mat and make your own strip or buy a strip to fit in it is the go! I will have a video coming out soon on my Sim and I'll talk more about my strip as I've made a few changes on it.

Considering how close you have to be to the net, can you use it with the garmin R10, MLM or Mevo+ given the distance that is required from the ball to the wall/net?
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
Hey JR so the MLM2PRO and Garmin state that they need 8ft ball to net. And then the Garmin needs 8 feet unit to ball / MLM2PRO needs 8.5 feet unit to ball. Those are all minimum requirements. Cheers
@jrmichel1975
@jrmichel1975 Год назад
@@JLagGOLF Hey Joe! Yeah that's what I had read too. Would you say you were 8 feet away for the target on the net in your video? Apologies if you mentioned it and I missed it. I remember David Maxfield saying that he was farther away from the Spornia than it looked on his videos. My concern is making sure that you can be far enough from the net to provide enough information to the Garmin, while being close enough to avoid the risk of mishitting the ball outside the net and doing damage to the room. I would love to know your take on it!
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
@@jrmichel1975 Hey mate I just did a measure and I was 7 1/2 feet away from the impact sheet! So you really don't need to be much further away. Like a lot of people have said in the comments the SPG-8 would be the best pick if you were getting this for a dedicated home set up. If you need to travel or want a portable set up the 7 is PERFECT. The one thing I'll add is if you are going to use an RCT ball to get calculated spin and have a high ball speed you will need to be further away with driver because the unit needs a few revolutions to calculate spin. There is a chart on the Garmin website. But this is only if your driver ball speed is above 160 when it becomes a concern. support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=COFCXdRAJv2m8r9MBtLrf8 Under the tab that says determining distance from net. Cheers

Thanks for that Joe : I've got a Spornia net and was thinking about purchasing the Rapsodo MLM2 Pro (yes, I saw that review too and the connectivity issues!) ... given the netting on the side of the Spornia does that hinder the 'read' on the Rapsodo in terms of distance you need to be hitting the ball from the net itself, or will I just have to take it back the required distance from the drop sheet?
@JLagGOLF
@JLagGOLF Год назад
Hey Greg I haven't tried it because I don't have the side nets but I can take a very educated guess and say no it won't affect the readings. I have things in front and to the side of mine and the readings I've got from the unit have been great. The MLM2PRO will be an amazing unit in the future given enough time for all the software issues to be ironed out. And yes it will just be distance to the drop sheet (the distance the ball is travelling)

Thanks mate! If you want the best you can buy in Australia then get this one! baysidegolf.com.au/products/mat-by-eztee%C2%AE One thing I will say is don't skimp on a hitting mat or if you do then definitely buy a hitting strip that is super forgiving.. and then make sure your stance mat is the correct height as your hitting strip. I got the premium tee turf from the net return and although it's a good mat I'm a little steeper into the ball and my elbows were absolutely in bits after 3 months of use... I was in pain just doing everyday tasks.. that's when I built my impact strip and honestly is SAVED me! I am now pain free! Took my elbows about 9 months to recover.
