This sections covers drilling and tapping the action for the scope. We actually shot about 20 minutes worth of footage, but I decided to compile it down to the most important parts for the sake of saving time. We may film a detailed DVD in the future on some of these operations. If you are interested in something like that, let me know, and if I can get enough support, we may pitch the idea to a production company or two.

IQ888, you are the man. I swear every time I look up a gun video, you usually have a video uploaded to answer my questions. And in great detail too! You're doing a great thing for the gun community and we appreciate that highly. Much gratitude.

Wow! I was waiting for this sequel for so long! You two guys are doing a great job. In this new video I was able to take a better look at the blasting/parking process, and looks like a very smooth job. Congrats!

Man I've been checking twice a day to see if you've posted another Mosin video! You've got me on the edge of my seat for this series! Keep up the good work, the rifle looks good already! I think I may have overused exclamation marks in this post.

I have found with my Mosin work, that placing a small magnet or two near the work area helps collect the shavings. I dont have and actual shop so clean are is a must. Worked for me.

With mounting these things, it seems like you want to mount it as far back as possible to keep it from drilling into the chamber itself, correct?

Quick tip. Use the Forestewr fixture as a point of refferance. than use your dial caliper to set the the bushings for the proper distance between your base holes. (insted of center punching the action.)
@jheetman
@jheetman 13 лет назад
if you drill a hole above the chamber we all know you dont wanna go through. but how much material do you have to leave between the bottom of the hole and the chamber wall? i would guess you wouldnt wanna go more than 2/3 of the way but thats just my guess, i also don't know the nominal thickness of the chamber wall at that point. any suggestions on how shy of the chamber to stop?

Okay so serious question here. I took mine to a reputable gunsmith near me that alot of guys have had him work on guns and does great work. I gave him this exact scope mount to tap onto my 91/30. He had a hell of a time because the metal was going from soft to hard. 1943 Izhevsk so not surprised. But the rear taps went great and look good. Front however closest to the chamber went through. It's about 1/4" from the face of the bolt when the bolt is down. Is it safe too shoot? I mean the bolt will seal the hole but I'm more worried about it trying to Crack from pressure from hole to hole. I've tried calling RSI but can't ever get ahold of anyone.

@havenasp
@havenasp 10 лет назад
i have a 91/30 what would ya charge to drop it down to the same length and take off the rear sights, along with the finish on it? I'm getting an archangel stock and don't think it'll look the greatest with such a long barrel and the bluing wearing off.

@Iraqveteran8888 Hey, where can I find a bore-site tool like that? I found one at the gun show out here in California for about $20, but didn't see anything else. I am working on a similar project using an ATI Monte Carlo sporter stock, but noticed the gun does not properly fit into the stock. I am also going to have to polish the receiver on this rifle because of a "sticky bolt" issue. Do you know of anywhere where I can find a "virgin" bolt that has not been bent?

The only rifles that I tolerate sporterizing are Mosins. But the people that sporterize Krags, mausers, and enfields, I feel like they are destroying history with not that many replacements.
