Awesome video. I love these and seeing your different ideas. I play with these a lot and your breakdowns are still helpful. I like to set up lots of lights to light up the fog and get a couple rim lights and main light but I still find my favorite shots have lots of light cut away, I have to work on that in my garage with limited space to keep light from bouncing around. Anyway, your comments really help solidify/clarify the ideas that work best for me. Appreciate your effort putting these out!

Similar to some of your other videos and techniques, I was able to follow this one pretty much verbatim as well (I even purchased the same fog machine - hey, if it ain't broke...) and achieve similar results. I then kicked it up and used a 4 light setup (pretty much the same setup you recommend for your composite cutouts) and produced even more dramatic results by adding gels to my edge lights. Your videos are helping me level up my game very quickly and put offerings together that the athletes and families I'm starting to work with will absolutely love. I'm still a little nervous about using the fog machine in an actual gym with smoke detectors so have been sticking to my studio for that so far. It's pretty exciting to be able to follow your content and have it just freggin' work. I can't wait to try out the dramatic volleyball team photos (that's actually what first led me to your content) and the plate image compositing (mine will be a volleyball player diving for a pancake but same concept).

@MattHernandez

It would depend on how strong the video light is. Typically that’s pretty hard to do unless you’re in a really dark location because the video lights aren’t strong enough.

@greggeis918 10 месяцев назад
There are lots of fog machines available at a wide variety of prices and power/sizes/configurations. Usually they either shoot out front or top, top is typically nice for these to me because it's easier to control. I have had trouble with mine coming out too directionally. I like how matts diffuses more coming out or that might just be it bouncing off the bleacher behind it which is important in keeping it where you want it. I've been playing with taping a fork or something to it to make it diffuse a little more coming out. They come out as high pressure steam jet so you can get significantly different shapes. Power isnt' critical for photography in my opinion. Lower power models are more compact, after you use it a bit you will just have to wait a couple minutes on lower power models to get back up to temp. If you are using slow/medium dissipating fog its not an issue. If you are using a fast dissipating fog and running through a lot of kids, you probably want a higher wattage model so you're not waiting on the machine. The aerosol cans are nice and convenient but extremely fast dissipating and usually need an assistant rather than just use the remote like Matt did.
@MattHernandez
@MattHernandez 10 месяцев назад
@@greggeis918 that’s why a haze machine might work better for longer team shoots with lots of kids and the same setup. I may do one on that soon too!
