I've owned a 1973 Harley Rapido 2 stroke 125cc in high school, a 1976 Superglide FXE, a 2001 Dyna Wide Glide, a 2004 883 Custom, a 2005 Electra Glide and I purchased February 17th this year a 2018 Heritage Classic Red Denim Oxide 114 c.i. brand new. I just purchased a 2003 xl 883R with 3,642 miles immaculate condition and I experienced the misting today after putting 407 miles on it in 9 days. I'm not familiar with this model. My friend, a Harley Davidson service manager explained the blow by/ blow back issue common to these models so I wasn't alarmed by it. He suggested options to correct it but I couldn't visualize them. I did clean the K&N filter which was dirty and now after watching your video I'm going to look for a kit for this model. The paint is orange and excellent and except for the following pieces I'm going to replace; chrome battery cover, chrome ignition module cover and chrome headlight visor the bike is period correct. I found a used good condition black metal ignition module cover, removed the chrome battery box cover (strap and lid still chrome) and will powder coat the light visor black. Thanks again. Dude, this rocks! I just cleaned my air filter and re-oiled it (I got the same air cleaner as you) and it has so much blowback in the filter. This is exactly what I was thinking of getting. Thanks for the review! Let us know your thoughts after some miles have gone through it!
I built a chopper once with a 1340 evo motor and i just put a sponge at the bottom of the air cleaner, took a few months for it 2 b soaking in oil and i'd toss it and put a new one in or ring it out lol im sure a little oil still went in the carb but i dont think much really did. I like this DK kit though and gonna order it for my 2013 Streetglide i just picked up.

Dk customs sent me the kit, then they forgot to send in the banjo fittings, finally got them after emailing them with pictures, now they sent me the wrong damn fittings careful you all who order from them? Just no damn customer service now a days!!! Paid 135 for the whole damn kit too!! Just horrible !!! Anyways thanks for the video great idea!!!
That only addressed the secondary symptom, the primary issue is oil loss due to an ineffective crankcase ventilation system, or specifically an omitted component, lets call it an oil mist containment and return cannister, like the expansion tank or vapor dryer in an hvac system, when oil and air mix you can get two results, oily air or foaming oil, either way, they need to be separated and put back into play, there is one aftermarket breather vent that addresses this to a degree, I don’t recall the brand name, but the engineering is as close to effective as I’ve seen at keeping oil in your engine lubrication system and the air required to allow the pistons to reciprocate in an air tight case to aspirate in equal and opposite reaction to the pistons pushing and pulling (sub ring to cylinder) atmospheric air in and out of the crankcase via a vent rather than a crank shaft seal, or base gasket. The use of an HVAC type dryer/separator in circuit would be a solution as well as an 80-88-96-103-197-110 cid positive crankcase ventilation pressure equalizing resonation chamber (preloaded diaphragm expansion tank) or a push pull tank (like a brake booster that operated in both directions)
Way back before the EPA required the crankcase venting a lot of us used to add Kroil or Marvel’s to the gas (maybe a shot glass) in order to “lube” the heads and valves. I have no idea if it ever helped anything but it didn’t cause any issues that I’m aware of. So getting oily vapors on your heads, is that really a problem? Especially the M8s with 4 plugs, has anyone bore scoped an M8 to see if there is similar build up?
I don't understand how it breaths with those replacement bolts that the banjo bolts slide onto? I dont see those bolts having breather holes but I see the banjos have the breather holes but how does it breathe into the banjo bolts with the solid base bolts? This is my only hesitation and I can't figure it out. Hope you can clear this up for me. Thanks.
I have always disliked the thought of that oil going back through the intake and throttle body. If you think about it, that oil has to dirty up everything, throttle body, intake between cylinders, and not to mention all those sensors that do a better job reading when clean. I have a 09 HD Night Train (FXSTB) and Im just going to install a pair of brass open vented breather bolts with a stainless mesh screen in them. Honestly a fella could actually just re-route the factory lines to a small filter with a T and get a similar effect. Did you notice any performance gains, wether on a dyno or by seat of the pants feel perhaps? Kudos on a very well put together video Sir! Keep the rubber side down! 😎
Ordered my kit through the link in the description and was surprised when I got the kit and the banjo bolt threads were much to small... didn’t fit my 2006 sportster.
Bought the same one, however i noticed my banjo bolt hole did not match up or even close to the banjo fitting? I think they may have sent me the wrong ones.

question on the 2000 ultra classic there is a line that connect to both heads just behind the air filter plate any chance of this getting stopped up letting oil in look to be factory
Doing this makes your motor cleaner, but the environment dirtier… This is why the EPA regulated motorcycle companies to reroute the dirty air back into the engine (not the environment that everyone breathes).

Tony Cox you said you paid 100 for the catch can. Do you recommend stepping up to any of their additional options or can those be had for cheaper somewhere else?
I got the actual breather bolts they work good but because there are vents on the bolts it throws oil blowback onto the air filter and stuff so I just ordered the same system to negate that
