Tynia....I really love you for this. I actually was going on that payment information. $0.50, $0.30, $0.15. Wow that changes everything. You are a blessing to the independents. Thank you!
My dad always worried asks me that how am I gonna make money in music industry! Well now I feel pretty confident to tell him by this deep knowledge! Thank you so much ❤️ you are a blessing ❤️.
You’re awesome! Why? Because I truly need to know these things as a singer/songwriter and you are the very person I want to learn from. You disseminate this vital information so precisely. Thank you!
I used to get caught up by those memes that say "such and such artist only made x dollars off 7 million plays" Paying for digital distribution shook me out of that paradigm. But thank you for this video. That all-in royalty pool chart gives a lot of insight!
Ughhh yes!! I see those memes all the time & they drive me crazy! Even big news outlets use that as their tagline to get people to click the article & then when I read the story, they don't ever explain the truth. Good thing you've been disenchanted!
Thank you Tynia , really appreciate all the help and support you are giving out to us . I enjoy watching your video's as you make it more understandable and you also seem incredibly passionate about it which makes it actually ;D))) fun to study . Have a great day/evening mpwoahhh xXx
Thank you for the video. The info you provide has been very helpful. In giving me a much better understanding of how things really work. I really appreciate it.
This is way too complicated for the average person. This is done on purpose to confuse the artists. This practice has been going on for years. Thanks for making this video! Peace from the 6ix!!
well if you're signed with Songrtust, then you're getting your mechanical royalties from them as well, so you don't have to worry about that. You still need a writer account with BMI though for your performance royalties! Songtrust only collects your publishing royalties.
@@tyniacoats do you know what soundexchange is for? I was told I need to sign up with them even though I get royalties through distrokid and songtrust and BMI
Hi, You did a excellent job explaining a very complicated subject. I appreciate your advice , music streaming is only one way to profit in this business. Thanks for sharing.
You forgot Songtrust that can also collect the same mechanical royalties HFA collects, which is better for indie artist since HFA doesn't except unsigned artist.
Hi Great info..but I am still in confusion....Sound drop has been sending these types of spread sheets on my song reach ,I can't make heads or tails of it...can I reach out to you for help??
It is not true if you claim Spotify pays one fixed rate or if you narrow the rates down too much or too broad. Most information I came across said that rates vary due to multiple factors as well, but that doesn't mean you can't make an estimation or a prediction just because rates vary. Rates go from 0.001 and they will not add a number higher than 1 from the 2nd 0 onwards so 0.199 for example. With this mind, you can analyze artists of different levels and determine the average. Spotify won't add more numbers for an indie artist after the first two zero's if you do not have hundreds of thousands, at least 100k streams . A 5 digit number is also rare. Like this you can at the very least make a close prediction.
When I register a new song online with BMI and it asks if there is an “artist” should I list myself if I am the artist (performing my own song) on the digitally distributed track as well as public performances?
Ok wait what if you write your own music and make your own beat and plubish your own music like just solo by yourself how does the sign up work for that?
Odd question - Is there a way to NOT earn royalties through Spotify/Apple Music ... or even DistroKid, who may collect the money for me. I can't claim it causes of my visa status. In this case, do these platforms just hold the money forever? I just want to be able to share music. Also, does the only way to NOT make money is by selling your rights to them? Any advice would be of great help. Thanks!
I want you to do a collab virtual video with singer MYA about split sheets and only about split sheets , no music promo . lets c u get mya on with you .
We tuned in to learn about royalties. So why not have given an example for each type (the 4 types) of royalties. Use an example of 1,000 download and then explain how much someone might get via the 4 different ways.
Each platform have their own payout fee's, all you have to do is make a realistic assumption using streams per and the payout rate for each and average them all out together to see your average stream payout per song.~ Its that simple. The main platforms have close enough payouts that when you take the number of streams per to the payouts per, they will all pretty much calculate close if not identical. Here is a cool fact, no one will get rich nor make a good living off of any amounts of streaming unless you sign an exclusive with one of the platofrms~
You collect mechanical royalties through The Harry Fox Agency. They only payout to publishers, so you have to create a publishing company if you don't have one. Or you would get a publishing administrator like Songtrust to collect that for you.
@@SilverWolf941 you can only collect master royalties if your vocals or instrument playing is on the master recording, otherwise you would have to have a deal with the artist/label & they don't really share the master royalties with just pure songwriters.
There's something u said in the beginning that didn't make much sense. You said streaming generates 3 types of royalties. But streaming is the only type of royalty that gets paid out from the DD company so how can it generate all 3 ? ?
Hi! Sorry, I've been on vacation & have to play major catch-up with my emails & comments. I'll be going through all the emails I missed over the next couple days, so hang tight pretty please & thank you!
