They sell Their audio stuff like airpods and stuff along with an iPod touch in that section..... So, they still sell the iPod , here’s the link: www.apple.com/ipod-touch

Pretty cool. If you are interested in doing a V2.0 with bespoke PCBs, and a lot less hot glue, let me know. I would be happy to help with the electronics engineering and help you get some prototypes fabricated. I could see this as a cool niche kit, to save dying, unsupported iPod hardware. While I don't like Spotify, I think that the idea has a lot of merit, and it could utilize other less cring-worthy services for streaming music. There are better embedded OS options too for the Pi, that would allow the finished kit to consume substantially less power.

I often find myself wanting to go out without taking my phone, just to disconnect, but having music is the only thing that stops me from doing that-I know I could still buy an mp3 player and load in my songs but this just seems so much cooler. I really think there's a market for products like this. I predict tech intended for one thing only will make a comeback sometime in the coming years. people are getting tired of always being "on" y'know, and leaving your phone at home sounds more and more appealing. Cool project for sure! A few years ago, I spent a lot of time and money finally perfecting my 512GB local storage iPod Video Pro with a full gold casing (something I wanted for years and years to hold all my music on me at once), only to realize that the clickwheel interface aged terribly and I can't stand to use it in the age of touchscreens 😂 also, at this point, I have well over 512GB of local music files anyway (I'm a DJ) and love discovering music via streaming services, so the whole project was basically pointless in the end, but still fun and resulted in a cool device to look at 🤷‍♂️ I've kept the iPod still for nostalgia and just to show it off sometimes cuz it's cool, but I may sell it at some point.

It would have been cooler if you just emulated the original HDD in the iPod using the Raspberry, instead of just replacing everything...

I gotta admit, this is one of the most (of not THE most) refreshing videos I've seen on RU-vid in a long while.
