The last video in my series on "Rain"!
Hell of a bassline, right? Peak McCartney. No two verses are the same.

One of my favorite bass lines to play. You can really “feel”and understand how the direction of bass-line for “Tax-man,” came to be . …. 😎🕊️💯 Great job . .. 💫✌️

@@MichaelSokil 🎵🎶fwiw, when playing “Rain” on acoustic and playing the C to G chords parts( or C with a G in the bass) “…let the rain come …) and the bass does it’s run up, I tend to play those bass ghost notes on the acoustic. Seems to work, gives it a really full feel. Easy to perform as your hands already in that G/C chord shape, so striking/playing the bass part, melds pretty well . … 🕊️😎🎶

I love these spotlight versions - how long does it take to split them out once you've done the main version?
@MichaelSokil
@MichaelSokil Год назад
Not too long! I already had the video of multiple angles and the isolated audio tracks of my bass performance from putting the full cover together. I like making a new video edit and a new mix for the spotlights, but the hard work was already done. Altogether this one took maybe 3 hours. That might sound like a lot, but the full cover took probably 50+ hours of work. 3 isn't too bad!

What strings do you use? And what sort of processing do you put on the bass to get that tone in studio one? This has got to be your best recreation yet!
@MichaelSokil
@MichaelSokil Год назад
Strings are D'Addario XL Chromes (flats), and I used a Boss Compressor pedal into an Ampeg BA-112 amp recorded with a Shure SM-57. I added a LOT of EQ in Presonus Studio One to boost the bass and drop the high-end. Thanks for the kind words!

Awesome Mike, i want to ask you wich bass is your favorite between the Ric and the Hofner?😅
@MichaelSokil
@MichaelSokil Год назад
Great question! It's gotta be the Rickenbacker. My Hofner certainly has the look you want from a Hofner, but the playability is mediocre and the sound isn't nearly as thumpy as a vintage Hofner. But the Rickenbacker can do everything. It can do that round, fat "Rubber Soul" tone, the crunchy "Glass Onion" tone, the bright and beautiful "With a Little Help" tone - it's an amazing instrument. And it doesn't look bad either!

Did you use the mute on the Ric or stuff a sponge in it or nothing at all?
@MichaelSokil

On this song, nothing, but I activate the mutes for most McCartney lines on the Rickenbacker. Depends on the song!

Hey Bulldog is a brilliant song with a beautiful bassline. I came across it because my dad told me about it and I saw a guitar cover done by Sam Popkin. Are you able to try it out as a full recreation? John used a Casino at some point and shared George's Gibson SG for the solo. Paul on the Rickenbacker and tambourines and Ringo, obviously, playing the drums. There is probably more to it, but I would like to see you give it a try.

@@MichaelSokil Oh I agree. I love it. It’s possible that it’s more the song that he wasn’t overly enamoured with given it’s one of those LSD-fuelled songs that he was a little uncomfortable with given that was a John and George thing.
