This is great! So glad you included the original speed and the record version. Were these guys geniuses or what? Not afraid to try new things, and never ones to rest on what had gone before. No wonder they were (and are) so hard to imitate.
I get what you mean about the original version being in G#, but I personally think the much more faster version was the original. Listening to the official release, everything sounds like they dropped in pitch by more than one semitone, especially the drums, and the pause before the outro feels more natural in the "actual speed" take. Edited: also the count-in for the fast version sounds like Paul's voice in its normal pitch

I'm biased to say Paul plays lead because it sounds so great on the Casino, but I think it could be either! I think it's impossible to say if it was the SG or Casino, since they can sound so similar. It'll never be known!
We know Paul added bass after the basic track was recorded. We know Paul was not one to sit around and do nothing while the others played, so my hunch is George was the odd man out and did not play guitar on this. Maybe relegated to tambourine. Just a theory. But it's fun to speculate.

You're right... someone else said it. In fact, you might not even be able to reach the correct notes on bass. Someone will have to address this with them. Couldn't be an accident
Love the cover, however, the song was played even faster in Bb. Just like how it is presented in the deluxe Revolver set. There's an easy way how to determine the original speed. It's the 50 Hz hum of the guitar amp(s) before the take. The 50Hz is there when the song plays in Bb. You can do the same with bass. The bass was overdubbed to the slowed down backing. The bass track features 50Hz hum when it's in G.
@@MichaelSokil And yet that's how they played it. The 50Hz rule is the proof. You can't ignore that. And don't forget Ringo himself said they played the backing "REALLY fast".
I thought it might be possible until I tried recreating a backing track at that tempo. It's just not possible, especially the drums. I know Ringo is far more talented than me, but there are fills that are pretty much physically impossible at that tempo. But I also don't know enough about this 50 Hz rule to be definitive. It's a mystery, for sure!
@@MichaelSokil Could you give an example of a break in the song that can't be re-created at that speed? Because I've found none, if you use Ringo's unusual technique to play breaks. Regarding the 50 Hz hum. It's a frequency of mains power in UK and that specific 50Hz frequency is coming out of the amplifier. The hum on the drums/guitars track is at 50Hz when you play the track in Bb. When you slow down the track it becomes off. The hum on the bass track is at 50 Hz when you play the bass track in G. So it shows that the bass was recorded while the tape was slowed down to G. The bass should have been excluded from the "original speed" version on the deluxe set as it is obviously off.
@@onderovTypically I find myself siding with Michael but this is one of the most well crafted Beatles arguments I’ve read. It certainly was fast but it is entirely possible for those fills to be played, especially by the fifth take by which point Ringo certainly had time to grasp the feel of the song and start to get it down
