In this SpotOn GPS fence review I share my first-hand experiences with this GPS dog collar. I go through setting up the collar, creating virtual smart fences, and testing the boundaries. The results are shocking - this is the most accurate GPS dog fence I've tried.

Would level 5 be strong enough for a big dog? I have a Rottweiler and he’s very tough so I’m skeptical of level 5 even bothering him.

They usually need less correction level than you think with any electric collars. I always say to start at level 1 on every electric collar. Usually surprised many dogs correct at very low levels.

I ordered this collar because of your review. I had nothing but problems with it. After 2 months, the sound quit working on the collar, so I sent it back, and it was fixed by Spot on. Upon receiving my "fixed" collar, I was excited to continue training my dog with this technology. Sadly after a week of operation the collar had charging issues. It would charge in the cradle then discharge. I had to mess with the connection to get it to charge. Enough was enough. Although this seemed like a great containment product, it did not deliver. I could not trust it. My money was 100% refunded - 13.08 for shipping. I purchased a Garmin sport collar for 15% of the price of this product and I'm extremely pleased with it. No issues.

We have been using the Spot On collar for 3 years now and LOVE it. We upgraded to their newest collar and are enjoying the improvements. I especially love the mapping abilities of the app. It allows our high energy dog to safely run on our 6 acres, without bothering the neighbors. We have had to contact customer service several times and their customer service is stellar. They also keep improving their collar and app. We are very happy customers.

Well done (I tried it on my arm and not my neck...I need my neck for chewing gum and reading!). It should be noted that different dogs "feel" correction and pain differently. I had a large GSD that would pull full force for 1 hour walks against a prong collar, and actually spun around with joy when he saw it (because it meant "walk"). I've got almost 100 acres, and surrounding wilderness with cougars, moose, bear and wolfpacks wandering around, although oddly enough the most dangerous animals are deer or horses. This kind of virtual fence has been a lifesaver for our one wandering dog. Almost impossible to leash one dog of the pack on that much land, and incredibly $$$ to do a buried wire (and dogs slide right through barbed livestock fence). Anywho, just mentioning that the static correction is really necessary for real deterrence for some dogs, and if people set the "fence" and never move it, eventually the dog remembers the boundaries, and you can remove the prongs. Much better a shocked dog neck, than a crumpled heap in the paddock with the big gelding who hates dogs. Good review though.

If your gsd was pulling with a prong collar, you are using it incorrectly and should not be using it at all. It needs to be sized correctly and used properly. Prong collars are not meant to wait for the dog to pull to feel the stimulus. They're meant to deliver a "pop" of the leash which quickly pinches/pressures the dog and corrects the behavior. If you let them pull instead of using it correctly before they engage it, they WILL often continue to pull with it and can injure themselves. Please educate yourself on proper use before ever using it again.

I hate shock collars in general but after watching my livestock and dogs and coyotes respect my electric netting fences, I’m hoping this collar will only have to teach the dogs once. They really respect electric fences. And I get shocked by my electric gene es almost every day… it’s takes ver little in the way of volts to make a point.

@ar007r Месяц назад
@@hungry_lama I dont see any problem with that why do you? If you are against shocking your dog then tell me what is wrong with having the first few perimeters set to have no shocks and then steadily increase them further out. The only way your dog gets any severe shock is if they are far outside the zone. If they get to level 10 shock then that assumes it is good that it was set up that way.

I saw this video because you recommended it in your Halo review which I searched for. In that halo review you showed how inaccurate it was with the boundary you set and the activation of the collar. This one you said was more accurate but I would have liked to see a similar video layout with your GPS on your phone on the screen for this product like you did for halo. How much more accurate to the boundary would you say this one is vs halo?

An in-ground fence like Extreme Dog Fence or a wireless fence like PetSafe wireless would probably be the best bet for yards of that size.
@ar007r
@ar007r Месяц назад
Considering that you can have multiple fence perimeters can you set a different warning to each one? Ex. in the current demo you have 2 warnings before the correction shock. Can you make a few more layers of extended perimeters so that the static shock consistently increases in outside each one? If you train your dog then wouldnt there be no reason not to apply the most severe shock if they are far outside the initial zones? Theoretically they should never end up there anyway so why not set it all the way to maximum at an appropirate range?

why? because you would rather your dog runs away then has shocks? You do realize they can handle the shocks better than we can right? Also, you can set multiple perimeters so there is little chance that they would ever get shocked. If you already have 3 perimeters of warnings before steadily increasing the shock then if they ever enter those zones and make it to level 10 you would probably be saving their lives at that point.

Gender effects the pain tolerance as well. But in terms of registering your dogs gender this is also because you are putting them into a system in case they did manage to run away. Then they could be more easily identified and returned. The political climate you refer to is more so that people would be angered that they asked about gender. We always identified gender in literally any type of situation like this because its one of the most significant variables for predicting human behaviors and outcomes. Only people who are in this cult ideology would get angered that Gender was asked so I think you have it backward.

Once the dog is trained it's a non-issue. Dogs are not humans... try not to be so daft.
@ar007r
@ar007r Месяц назад
Thats like saying you would rather your dog die than wear a collar. Dogs dont feel the shock at the same level as humans thats why they ask the breed, gender, and weight etc. It is not cruel in any way. Do you yell at your child if they try to run on the street or does upsetting them to stop them from hurting themselves qualify as abusive to you? Did you not see that the shocks are optional which I think is also silly. To me there is zero logical reason you wouldnt have the shock set at maximum. You can have 2-3 perimeters that are just warnings and then increase the perimeter for each shock level until you are at the maximum. If your dog ever got to that point then there is a good chance you would never see them again if you didnt do this. This is the type of nonsense that creates dangerous dogs to begin with. When you train a dog it is required that you use physical force the same way it is required for the proper socialization with human babies. The only people who are angered by that are ignorant people who misinterpret the meaning which is supsicious because it indicates that you worry about your own ability to constrain your emotions when applying force. When behavioral scientists, such as myself, are referring to this it is in the obvious context of proportional minimal force. For a dog you have to at minimum match their aggression if you are to ever train it out of them. If you do it properly from a young age this means far less force will be required. If you are dealing with an agressive older dog that was not socialized properly then the amount of force needed would also be significantly higher. With children, infants for example, this could mean continuing to put them down in the crib when they refuse to sleep and stand up until they tire and go to sleep. In that example you are using force slightly higher than their own which is obviously extremely minimal. Not doing these things is the actual cruelty because you are setting up that animal/person for a much harder time down the road and far more potential for trauma. The reason comments like yours are disturbing and suspicious, outside of not understanding basic behavioral development and psychology, is that it seems to suggest that your fear of using force stems from your own fears that you are unable to control yourself. This is why people will accuse others of abuse even though they are applying these thigns correctly. They inherenetly and automatically jump to that conclusion because of projection and this is obvious because why else would you jump there and not assume the basic principles that I just explained? That means you are unaware of them (a sign of your own psychological state), or that you fear others are acting like you would if you didnt fully refrain entirely like you claim to do. The literature around this topic is very clear and to any competent behavioral scientist it is a red flag. Outside of that it could have just been a dumb comment that you dont actually do in real life and are just saying this because you are higher in neuroticism or simply virtue signalling.
