Wow your now up to 540g...diy? Option 1 sounds like a nice community, limited aggression with nice schooling action from red hooks; option 2 is kinda my style....aggressive boys full of personality....with that size tank you can go in any direction. Cichla, Snooks and Arowana....Veija community....bigger meaner cichlids: dovii, umbee, butterkoferi...so many cool options! Can't wait to see what you choose

Yes sir.. I do really like the Jags, but I still don't want a bloodfest. If I could figure a way to combine option 1 and 2 I would be there.. I love the look of op 1 but the personalities of op 2 is pulling me hard !

Red hooks? Depends on where you are in the world; I'm in NJ and they are sold at petsmarts, Petco's everywhere

Black bars sell for at least 2-3x times a red hook in NYC / NJ area. Blackberry are even more expensive. As another said, common SD with no spots aren't actually common in the big box pet stores, mainly spotted labeled SD. You may find the normal ones at LFS and even those species may vary. I picked up some uncommon SD from a Petsmart over 10 years ago, they had a small hook that was white tipped and didn't grow that much larger than a spotted SD. They were actually breeding in my tank until I gave them away when I moved.

@@dwsdarius Wish pets mart or petco would care red hooks I like they way the look when they get big. They just don't have a really much to choose from.

DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS that's why I am always apprehensive about getting them. I wanted them to be with the jardini coz they are fast and schooling.

Mine for a staple diet eat Dr. foster & smith brand tropical flake food, and occasionally that eat the cichlid gold pellets that I feed to the cichlids they live with

Get a bigger, longer tank. Keep the goldfish in a different tank.

Under some circumstances they will school together like in a large tank or if they are stressed...but they mostly stick with their own species

Thank you, congrats on the plywood tank...still something I'm hoping to do! 7 is a good number...be more is always better! in that sized tank a school of 7 or even 10 would stick very close together...which look cool; unless theirs going to be other community fish, then the silver dollars may not feel the need to school as tight

Thanks DWSDARIUS :) Ya there likely wont be much in terms of other fish. Maybe a few bushynose pleco and a pair of peaceful cichlids like the keyholes. Maybe I should just stick with the 7 or so and keep the tank with less fish and put more plants in there. Yes believe it or not I have plants with my silver dollars. Anubis (many). They look pretty beat up but they keep growing.

Wow I wish I had that luck...my spotted silver dollars with shred any plant I add with them. With 7 in that tank they should look awesome...especially if they continue to not eat plants

Hah well I give them cucumber or lettuce about 3 times a week so that really helps. The cucumber they like the most. Give that a try, I bet that will let your plants grow :) If you see my last couple videos, you'll see my 120 gallon with the plants in there.

Just wanted to give you an update. My tank was finished about 3 months ago and all my Silver Dollars were moved into this tank - plus got more to form a school of 15. I dont plan on adding any more fish as I want the focal point to be the SD school. I posted a video if you wanted to see (FF to 3:00 min to see the tank). BTW have you ever had the regular SD breed with the striped ones or it just doesnt really happen? Thanks again and as always, great channel!

@@dwsdarius I have a 40 gallon 36 in with 2 silver dollars had 5. 3 got ick n passed. I have to Get some more. The 3 was spotted and the two I have left has a red looking fin.

He has more than 2... learn to count!
