You need to use a stucco mix. It will leave a perfect texture. We do it on gunter walls, and water features all the time, to make fake rocks.

I know this is too late but when applying a plaster finish always apply a good coat of water to the base to slow down the absorbition of the plaster / stocco.

Tips: 1- get a gun made for dense media 2- you need to make this a three layer application, like stucco, if you want it to last. Spray first layer, overlay with skrim fabric, add a plasticiser with the top coat, to avoid shrinkage/cracking... you can buy thinset mortar mix with the plasticizer already mixed in, for a better finish at about the same price.

Maybe spray it like a Knockdown. Heavy orange peel, leave to half dry and run a trowel over it to knock down the high spots. Later, if you want another smooth coat, trowel one on. Skimming Knockdown is easier than plastering. Also, maybe a stucco scoop sprayer would work better for getting more material on fast.

I wonder if it might be better to do the exterior coat with a plastic cement? Don't forget to put a mesh or joint tape between your panels so you don't get cracks!

Try using pumice (volcanic foam) as an aggregate to increase the workablity of the mix while keeping the density low. One major advantage of this stuff is the fire resistance. It might decrease damages in fire forests like California and around you there in Idaho. Fireproof walls and roofs should be considered.

Had me thinking while seeing that shotcrete layer added. Could very very easily use a texture roller after the shotcrete, oops, shotaircrete, haha, was applied. Theres even design rollers with repeatable patterns to them that could create a interesting effect. You probably have seen their use those pattern rollers sometimes in apartment building hallways in two tone paint combinations. It's a fast process. And, there is nothing stopping anyone from using a 3d printer to create their own custom pattern roller designs, if they have just such a printer. I am getting something in September, if all goes well, its called SprayPrinter. Technically a modded version could be created, that would be a most interesting shotcrete application controller, as to create textured surfaces of exact patterns or images sent wirelessly from a computer to the SprayPrinter applicator. Even multi color concrete tints could be used in stages. Gradient blending effects etc.

Just wondering - if your pushing the Air Crete through the sprayer head aren't you loosing the foaming properties of the foam? If the forms are in position - just use concrete and a sand mix and build a layer of strength on the outside.

Try adding micro fiber to the aircrete mix. Its like hair. So you would have hairs that your overlay coat could mechanically bond too. Also look into quickcretes overlay. Its sprayable. It has fines in it.

There ist no added value in using aircrete for spraying. The airbubbles collaps while spraying and due to the Impact with the wall panel. My advise: Use white portland cement Mixed with fine sand for spraying i.e. texturing the panel surface. After 1st curing a few hours of the texturing, spay surface again this time with waterdilluted waterglass (sodium or potassium silicate) for a waterproof surface and accelerated hardening.

You could try dipping your trowel in water or spritzing water on the matrix immediately prior to tooling. Just a trick used by masons and plasterers: to keep the trowel from sticking.

@scottwillis5434
@scottwillis5434 2 года назад
The metal is a good heat conductor, however it is thin, so the cross section of the heat path is small. The outside layer of cement and any inside wall surface covering will help as well.

Fantastic. Watched all or your Air Crete videos till now. Love em. My goal is to make thin-ish wall panels (in the shop) to clad over existing plywood exterior. One of my big interest points is creating interesting rough finished surfaces. I LOVE the rough texture you got by scraping the panels in preparation for stucco spray. the questions is - do you think the rough prepped surface could be sealed and lime washed and then hold up to the elements as a finished surface?

Missing basic safety information. Cement contains silica dust. The sharp-edged particles scar lung tissue when inhaled: silicosis. It accumulates, and is permanent. Think "turn blue and medical emergency if you fly". A properly fitted $40-ish half-mask respirator (plastic with a soft gasket to seal to your face) with P95 or (better, but more restrictive) P100 filters keeps that out of your lungs. The filters are easily replaceable. Lungs, not so much. Your breathing muscles may get sore until you build them up; try P95 first. If you are tasting dust or grit or cement, forgot to wear your respirator. When I had to work in a nasty crawlspace, I didn't get nearly as sick if I wore my respirator. Or taste the dust. Works great (overkill) for sawdust too.

Do you reckon you can use this technique to retrofit sheds & barns etc, by spraying aircrete around the wood panels on both sides building up a solid mass? Perhaps laying some chicken wire mesh first, spray a coat, add another layer of mesh and spray again. Would this be strong enough with the mesh and concrete even if some of the wooden boards were only nailed in?

I'm retired Air Force and am extremely interested in foam crete. I've acquired an old fire extinguisher and am going to use that to hold my Suave/Drexel (spelling) solution. I'm planning on building some aircrete forms that I'll be using at the cemetery my parents are at . Please let me know what you think as well as any suggestions you have about the mix that would work best in each situation.well as using it for insullation on a chicken coup that I'm building. I think it wouod be awesome as an insullator for not only the coup but also for the water storage unit I'll be using to water them and my meat rabbits from. I have watering units, but since I live in NH, it gets really cold and I figure using aircrete and an insullator between two plastic tubs would help make the system energy efficient. By the way, what branch were you in?

Hi. Can you make an updated video that compares your aircrete blocks to a domegaia type ? I mean. They look amazing and kudos for that. But there some RU-vid's like Harry that have lots of videos showing these things crumble to a mere sqeeze
@Weslag1
@Weslag1 5 лет назад
Harry was not using anywhere near the same recipe(s) that Darwin is using, and he was making crumble tests while it was still green. Concrete doesn't begin to have any strength for the first 48 hours, and isn't considered to be cured for 28 days, minimum. It gets harder and stronger each one of those 28 days. Harry apparently started just stumbling around, almost like he disregarded what little existing knowledge there was available. For instance, aircrete is supposed to be a thin slurry that pours like honey, or a little thinner, and early videos show some that's almost the consistency of adobe. He guessed at amounts on so many of the things he tried that you can't really take it as gospel when he showed how easily they crumbled afterwards. Honeydo is also stumbling around, experimenting, because there isn't that much knowledge to be had, but he is starting from a background of working with concrete and doing testing pretty methodically, and repeatable, unlike Harry. Also, any concrete continues to cure for about 45 days or more. The accepted minimum is 28 days and he was testing strength after 24 hours. What could you expect? It's also best to keep poured concrete damp for at least the first 48 hours, which will make it harder and stronger. I don't recall any of his videos where he did anything like that. I appreciate his sharing of all of Harry's trial & error videos, but frankly you shouldn't put too much faith in his test results, because everything in his approach is so haphazard. And that's in addition to the actual bad qualities of properly-done aircrete... if it's going to be strong, it isn't going to be light or have the insulating qualities. If a mix does have those qualities, it isn't strong, as concrete mixes go.
@yoavcohen66
@yoavcohen66 5 лет назад
Weslag1 hello and thanks for the detailed response. I did not put too much faith in Harry's attempts but thought to mention him as an example for another tester. I do however very much interested to see a test by homey for his recent aircrete projects, being that he said that in making the big slabs he quadrupled his initial cement mixture. I know that it takes a long while for the concrete to cure and also that 48 hours damping rule, but I think that after 48 hours you should at least not be able to smash by hand such a wide slab of material. That is if it's suppose to be a hard enough result. That is why I am interested in honeys actual demo for that. And pending on some actual results demo, I intend to purchase those recipes from his etsy store

Next paint with a homemade starlite solution consisting of 10 parts cornstarch, 1 part baking soda & white glue (PVA Glue) then paint onto the surface then allow to dry. Then used a nice base coat paint and cover with a nice 30+ year latex paint and your nice airconcrete walls will last forever..... and are fireproof. Why did you add foam to this surface coating your shooting with texture gun? Try it without foam and add some sand and perhaps even some latex for better adhesion and again, spray it good with water before adding surface layer.

If you don’t give a damn about yourself AT LEAST do it for them! I’d give/do anything to have my dad and uncle back.. I hop you understand I’m not trying to be a jerk.

mrbizi perhaps you misunderstood what I said??? I wasn’t asking him do a PSA on Silva dust. I SAID I won’t support him or his channel by watching his videos BECAUSE he doesn’t protect himself from the SERIOUS danger of (silica dust.) At a minimum he should have a cheap mask on when he’s cutting, grinding, drilling or sanding concrete. Instead he’s breathing in a dust that’s causes lung disease, cancer and a crap load of pain!

Maybe add sand, trowel it on and do a broom finish

Can I please please please order one! Omg this mixture of air and concrete is perfect for swimming pool plaster. I have a swimming pool co in Tucson Az. I don’t have the pump for plastering a swimming pools like the larger company. But this mixture of air to cement is what the plaster pumps achieve! Can you send me info to order asap! Good try, but it certainly was not a good method ... failure is a great teacher. I'm hoping for a working method before next Spring when it's my turn build, hopefully using airCrete

I'm studying aircrete very intensely to make what I hope appears to be monolithic walls for a house I'm building using a steel tubing framed pole barn. I am interested in the hopper gun technique which just gave me the idea of another video I saw making counter tops out of concrete that look like wood slabs by dragging a drywall knife across it. Since aircrete is somewhat soft I also am wondering about using something for a hardcoat such as a polyurea coating. Do you have any ideas about hard coating?

Why use steel studs? Why not frame the building using wood 2x4s and then attaching waferboard on the inside and outside of the structure and fill the voids between the studs with aircrete? Then leave the waferboard in place and use tradition coverings such as siding. Or after a day or two of curing remove the waferboard and reattach them four feet down the wall and repeat? If you use waferboard molds first make sure you run whatever wiring you had planned to do. One could be creative and use a textured mold paneling to simulate beam construction or cordwood.

Wood tends to swell, shrink, absorb moisture from the concrete, and is subject to rot.
