I just started spraying furniture and was wondering, do you just let your sprayer sit between coats? Does it get clogged? Does the paint inside dry? Not for sure what to do with the sprayer between coats.
@BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique 3 года назад
Good question! Oh no that would be a crazy amount of cleanup! 😀Everything is sealed in the airtight cup, so the paint doesn’t dry out there or in the hoses. The only thing that sometimes happens is on the tip of the nozzle a dot of the paint when exposed to air (like glue would on a bottle tip) dries and needs to be wiped off or picked off (it’s like the size of a pin head).

Helppppp 😫 I sprayed Fusion last night. I’m a newbie. I definitely should have sanded between coats. I did 3 layers. It feels fine grain sandpaper and is a bit blotchy even though I did the overlapping technique. What should I do? I have the sanding pad. Should I do it dry or wet? And would I need to do a new coat afterwards? Any advice appreciated 😊
@BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique Год назад
I would say feeling and looking are going to be different things the way you attack it - if it feels grainy or chalky sanding will definitely help the feel. If you are looking blotchy or uneven that is more about your spray technique and the way the product laid down - sanding won't really change that appearance. You should be overlapping by about 25-50% - I like to go 50% to avoid striping. I don't wet sand (just a preference), spraying takes time to get down - so I would say practice. You can sand your current coat and do another coat overlapping by 50% and see if that improves - it should - like I said its all about technique and practice

@BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique Год назад
Thank you so much! Yes temps whether your spraying or brushing can have affect on how your end result comes out. Most paint companies say optimal temps is 65-75 degrees. Being that most of us work in workshops that can be hard to control and have the optimal temps. I have heaters in my shop and I wouldn't spray below 50 or above 90 degrees without having heating or cooling units to help with the temps.

@BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique 2 года назад
It truly hard to help diagnose an issue here with no photos or other knowledge. If it coming out orange peel like the product is too thick and having issue pushing through the needle. It could be not enough air pressure (leak in one of the hoses), it could be something as simple as a clog of product in the line. So you see it’s super hard to pinpoint without more info. When you say blotchy is it spraying like orange peel, it is drying down smooth, is it sputtering? There is a lot to consider. I would try contacting earlex and see if they can help you diagnose.

I have that exact same sprayer and just purchased Fusion (been an avid Dixie Belle user for years) and wanted to know how much you thinned it out. I plan on using the color Putty.
@BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique 3 года назад
So thinning is like a science experiment! So I don't measure anymore (I have been doing so long now). Most every sprayer should come with a viscosity cup, use that, time it and the sweet spot is about 35-40 seconds run through. Or you can start with 5% water to paint ratio and go from there! Good luck

I use the standard tip - I do not typically feel the need to switch them out for water based paints. You don't have to have two different spray systems, for instance you could have to spray guns/cups for the same system, using one for clear and one for paint. Does that make sense? @BorninaBarnBoutique
@BorninaBarnBoutique 2 года назад
I typically use 2/3-3/4 of a ping for a piece like this - of course some factors to consider - darker colors cover with less product and if you prime you will save on product too, I do have some waste in the cup, I scrape clean so not much, but it’s also about the amount of overspray your sprayer product es, the pressure control setting and the amount of flow through the needle. I have mine pretty dialed in so my overspray is minimal. The flexio does have more overspray than my Earlex or Fuji but they are different systems.

@@navashasingh3556 unfortunately I can’t tell you exactly, since there is no number on the dial, you just have to play with it and practice until the flow feels right. Each paint needs to be thinned and adjusted according to their viscosity (all paints are different in formula and consistency).

Have you done a video on the process of cleaning your sprayer? I would love to see that process before I decide to purchase a sprayer.

I have done that process a time or two in my spraying videos - not sure which! :) I did a spraying video on the Homeright sprayer and I showcase a segment cleaning the unit - although this is not my sprayer that I use regularly - the process is the same for all sprayers. This is the way I clean it - which I find works best - there are different ways (as per the instruction manual - I just don't think it gets as clean that way and I don't do it that way - just running water through and spraying until clean - doesn't cut it for me). :)
