It is an interesting fact that Zoroastrianism became extremely strong as the Roman Empire became Christian. With the Romans and Persians at each other's throats, Christianity became associated with the Romans and local Christian churches in Persia became targets of the Sassanids, who also promoted Zoroastrianism to ensure a buffer to the Christian Romans. @Pourya After the Muslim conquest of Persia, Zoroastrians were given dhimmi status and subjected to persecutions; discrimination and harassment began in the form of sparse *violence.*[11] Those paying Jizya were subjected to insults and humiliation by the tax collectors.[12][13][14] Zoroastrians who were captured as slaves in wars were given their freedom if they converted to Islam.[12] Many fire temples, with their four axial arch openings, were usually turned into mosques simply by setting a mihrab (prayer niche) on the place of the arch nearest to qibla (the direction of Mecca). Zoroastrian temples converted into mosques in such a manner could be found in Bukhara, as well as in and near Istakhr and other Persian cities.[15][full citation needed] Urban areas where Arab governors made their quarters were most vulnerable to such religious persecution, great fire temples were turned into mosques, and the citizens were forced to conform or flee.[16] Many libraries were burnt and much cultural heritage was lost.[17] *Gradually there were increased number of laws regulating Zoroastrian behavior, limiting their ability to participate in society, and made life difficult for the Zoroastrians in the hope that they would convert to Islam.*[17] Over time, persecution of Zoroastrians became more common and widespread, and the number of believers decreased significantly. Many converted, some superficially, to escape the systematic abuse and discrimination by the law of the land.[12] Others accepted Islam because their employment in industrial and artisan work would, according to Zoroastrian dogma, make them impure as their work involved defiling fire.[18] According to Thomas Walker Arnold, Muslim missionaries did not encounter difficulty in explaining Islamic tenants to Zoroastrians, as there were many similarities between the faiths. According to Arnold, for the Persian, he would meet Ahura Mazda and Ahriman under the names of Allah and Iblis.[18] Once a Zoroastrian family converted to Islam, the children had to go to Muslim religion school and learn Arabic and the teachings of the Quran and these children lost their Zoroastrian identity.[12] These factors continued to contribute to increasing rates of conversion from Zoroastrianism to Islam.[19] A Persian scholar commented, "*Why so many had to die or suffer? Because one side was determined to impose his religion upon the other who could not understand*.

@Pourya Pretty sure that there are 108 excerpts from Quran that say that a non-believer should be killed, Islam is the only religion that still leads holy wars against Christians today, for your information they are called Jihads. Christians in Iraq and Syria are being persecuted by Muslims daily and their numbers have fallen from 10 Million to much lower, now take a note, you don't need to even be extremist to commit such acts, as a man who read the Bible and the Quran I can say that those acts were commited by people like us with no commands from the above (some were commited under commands from above, that is also important to mention). So, yes, Islam is NOT a religion of peace if you have read the Quran you would know that anyone who is not a muslim is to be killed, women who disobey their husbands are to be beaten. I repeat again, Islam is not a religion of peace nor progress, it is fundamentlly incompatible with the Western values and if you want to tell me what happened to Christians in the Levant, North Africa, Zoroastrians, Tengris, Hindus and other religions due to Islam please explain all of them or are they "peaceful conversions" to you? Islam isn't really Abrahamic though as the Bible debunks the Quran's claims about Abraham going to Mecca to build the Kaaba (A Pagan Temple). The Bible states that Ishmael & Hagar went to Egypt which he married an Egyptian Woman not into the deserts of Arabia as Islam claims. My own explanation is that since ancient times there were three groups of Iranians, the first two of which were mostly in the villages: Farmers Clergymen army men During the Sassanid period, two groups were added to these, which were mostly in the cities: Bureaucrats Craftsmen During the two centuries of Arab rule and two centuries of Iranian Muslim rule, most of Iran's people remained Zoroastrians, and the minority in the cities were Assyrian Christians and Jews. Army soldiers who were not killed in the wars, either went to the north of Iran, or to China and India. Bureaucrats and craftsmen became Muslims earlier because they were in the cities and in contact with Muslims. Clergymen and farmers in the villages remained Zoroastrians because they had no contact with Muslims. With the attack of the Turks and their slaughter, the ratio of Zoroastrians and Muslims was almost equal. In the west of Iran, mostly Shafi'i and in the east mostly Hanafi, and still a minority in the cities, both Christian and Jewish. At the time of the Mongol invasion, because they massacred many cities, and because they removed strict laws against Zoroastrians, the ratio of Muslims to non-Muslims decreased. In the period after the Mongols until Shah Abbas I, this relationship was maintained: One is because the killing continued in the cities, especially in Khorasan. And secondly, many Turks went to Samarkand and Herat, the Timurid capitals, as well as to Anatolia and the Levant to fight against the Ottomans and Mamluks. Until a thousand years after the Arab invasion (the time of Shah Abbas I), which occurred due to the harshness of the second round of Zoroastrian migration to India. From this time until now, the Christians of Iran were mostly Armenians, not Assyrians. Those Zoroastrians, Christians and Jews who survived, gradually became Shiites and this process continued until the time of Naser al-Din Shah in the late 19th century.
a small community of Armenian Zoroastrians survived up till 1914 in anotolia , they had maintained the religion after Armenia became christian . Sadly they were murdered by the turks in the Armenian genocide .
