The last arc WAS a tournament arc, namely to see who was gonna run the Demon Realm, it was just rushed and left out half the character development of the manga.

It actually was a tournament ark, but it pulls a fast one by having the protagonist and the Antagonist fight and draw in the second bracket and the winner is a semi joke character introduced and now that joke character now rules the demon world because he won, the Antagonist is 100% fine with this then went to spend time with his son instead or something. I actually liked it because it ended in a way I never would have expected.

That is sesaon two where things get really crazy. You see after drinking so much hot sugary tea, Azusa has to get a dental filling which she is deathly afraid of and she has to retire her place in the tournament. This also jump-starts the coming of age ark for Mio.In which she is trying to show courage for Azusa, all the while comforting her for her loss at the tournament.

But they chose the worst possible option for exposition which is infodumping. It's lazy, low-effort (basically just making Meteora, the most boring character, read a script) and not really interesting or entertaining. The pacing is awfully slow and there's a lot of nothing happening except in a room talking. At least make the talks interesting damnit but they don't even advance the plot with all these dialogues

No explanation tbh my favorite arc was the Dragon King Festival arc, then the Edolas arc, and then the Grand Magic Games arc, to which I screamed my lungs out because of how awesome it was. Seriously we had Laxus kick the shit out of an entire dark guild, Erza defeat 100 demons and Cana OBLITERATE EVERYBODY WITH FAIRY GLITTER! At that point in the arc I was practically screaming "FAIRY TAIL! FAIRY TAIL! WOOOOO!" while doing the sign.

True, and none of my favorite shows are "mindless action". My favorite anime is Shinsekai Yori, which itself is known for exposition in some of the episodes and the action is basically nonexistent. But this anime takes it to a whole new level where I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE you start the anime off strong only to run it into the ground for the next 4 episodes of characters sitting and talking. Sitting and talking. And walking around. That's what they are doing. They go from place A to place B, to discuss something. Then they sit and talk. That's how this anime operates. There's not much that is implied, there is no world building through landscapes and implied notions, there are no complex metaphysical concepts that are explored through subtlety, THEY SPELL IT ALL OUT FOR YOU, so the philosophical hook it might have had is cheapened completely. Like, what the fuck is up with that? It isn't that there is not action, NOTHING IS HAPPENING AT ALL. That's the problem. I watched a lot of shows with minimal action but where things are happening all the time with very mild exposition sequences, and Re:Creators is basically Exposition: The Anime. It has information and interesting concepts, but it does not present them into an interesting way. It isn't doing anything with them, it's wasting its own potential. It doesn't try to imply things that well, instead characters are required to SAY EVERYTHING when it is convenient. They SPELL IT ALL OUT. So don't just think that people hate 4 episodes of mindless exposition because they want mindless action - it's because they want a show that is WELL PRESENTED which Re:Creators is not, despite having wonderful animation (when it does animate things) and awesome soundtrack. The directing of this show is just fucking godawful.

The first episode was shit. It looked fancy, but had nothing substantial to make the show memorable. It is underrated in the sense that no one bothered to watch it beyond the first episode including me.
