Spring Applied Brakes - Failsafe Braking

Applications that use these types of brakes are mostly industrial automation machines like material handling, robotics, manufacturing, medical equipment, theater hoists and cranes, among other things. Spring set brakes are best for applications that need to stop in case of emergency for safety reasons. For instance, if you have a conveyor belt moving and potentially dangerous robotic arms handling products when the power gets cut. You would NOT want these machines to keep moving with the potential to injure people or damage equipment. You would want these machines to stop very quickly. These brakes activate when the power is cut in order to increase safety in these situations. While these could be used in automotive applications, there are many reasons hydraulic disc brakes are used, but as electric vehicles become more popular, you may see these types of brakes in EVs.
