I always heard people say if bluegill got up to 6 lbs you'd never hear about largemouth bass much. Having done a lot of bluegill fishing on ultralight tackle I gotta agree. Great video, Richard. Thanks a lot!

Caught my first Bass, Crappie and Bluegill of 2018 yesterday, Bass was a first year 6-7 incher, Crappie was an 11-12 inch slab, gill was average. 2nd Bass of the year was a solid 2 and a half to 3 pounder that looked like it just finished spawning so was probably 4 - 5 pre-spawn.

I bought that same rod 16 bucks at my Walmart, it’s great and a great bargain......also bought for 18 bucks a 7’7” bass rod by Shakespeare....they are making some awesome gear these days for bargain basement prices.....glad they stayed true to their roots and didn’t jack their prices way up when they improved their quality.

wally world never improves quality AND SHAKESPEAR sucks(uglystik cat rods not withstanding)..... I do not know what your budget is but when it comes to the best rods available for panfish the ST. Croix PF series simply cannot be beat. these rods are so good i will wait out the back order for the 7' rods that in the spring can be 4+WEEKS
@Plasmacore_V

I bought this rod combo. (4'6" one) and I love the rod, but the reel sucks, the bail broke after only a few months.
@stephenstalter2481
@stephenstalter2481 6 лет назад
I have used the micro series from Shakespeare for the last 10 years or so. I own everything from the 4'6" to the 7'6" UL. They are excellent rods for what they are. The 7 light has been my primary smallmouth rod and the shorter lengths I have used primarily for pan fishing. To say that they are "trash" or "junk" is a bit ridiculous to me. I have NEVER had one break. They are sensitive enough to feel smallmouth nibbles in the river. They are also sensitive enough to feel a walleye or a crappie nibble. I also own higher quality rods such as Fenwick and Falcon. I reach for the Shakespeare most of the time. To compare them with St. Croix is simply unfair. A $17 dollar rod is quite simply not going to compare with a $100 rod. I enjoy the Shakespeare series and they do a great job of catching fish for very little money. When I did not have as much money, they enabled me to fish just as well as I can do now with nicer rods. I have found that in most cases, it is not the quality of the equipment, but the quality of the fisherman. caveat...nice equipment sure is nice though...I also don't have a heart attack when I slip in the river, smack a tree with the tip, or fall on the rocks and drop my gear.

Won't name any names but there is a gear snob in the comment section. I myself love the Shakespeare rods at Wally World. Just cure the cork handles and I'm good to go.

Someone commented on your language, Richard. Hey, I speak very good English and have no problem at all understanding you. Maybe the fact I live in South Mississippi has something to do with that. And I was born in Northeast Mississippi. And my daughter and grandsons live in East Alabama. No communication problem at all!

Did you hear about the guy went fishing in China with his boss ? R.G.T.F.M A man phones his wife and asks her: “Honey I’ve been asked to go fishing in China with my boss for a week. This is a good opportunity for me to get the promotion. So could you please pack enough clothes for a week, set out my rod & fishing box. We’re leaving from office & I’ll swing by the house to pick my things. Oh, Please pack my new blue silk pyjamas!” The wife noticed that there’s something fishy in her husband’s story but since she was a good wife she listened to her husband and did exactly as he told her. After a week the husband returned home, looking a bit tired but happy to have done a good job. The wife immediately started asking about the weekend, how it was, if he’d caught any fish and so on. The husband said: “Yes, Lots of Salmon, Blue gill & a few Swordfish. But why didn’t you pack my blue silk pyjamas?” To which the wife responded: “I did…..They’re in your fishing box”.
