Greetings from the U.S! I've subscribing to your channel for some time and really enjoy it. I particularly like seeing your dog and the time you take on the rivers you fish to stop and enjoy, and describe your fine lunch. The viewer gets the impression that you're enjoying yourself out there, making the most out of every day on the water.
Reciprocal salutations from the UK. I'm glad you enjoy the channel as I do enjoy making the videos. My faithful sidekick is no longer with us I'm afraid so from now on I will be flying solo. It's taking some getting used to not having her out with me fishing but I'm thankful for her company and the great patience she showed me while I spent hours in the water. Yes it is true, I do enjoy a good lunch and I really do enjoy my time on the river. Every moment spent in a beautiful river is a feast for the senses and s reminder of how lucky we are to be alive. I only wish I had realised this earlier but then on the other hand if I'd discovered salmon when I was younger I would have achieved absolutely nothing in life because I'd never have been off the river!
Grand to watch, I love buzzer fishing for rainbows. That last fish made me giggle ... you can tell that you're a salmon man when you tried to grip the fish at it's wrist 🤣 I've driven past the signs for Sweethope many many times on my way for stalking in the Borders... think I'll have to pack my gear and make a detour! I've also started my quest for my first salmon (must be on the fly)....🤞🤞🤞
It's good to know there is an alternative to salmon fishing. It will always be methadone for me though because the spirit of the salmon is my true mistress.
Looked good fun and a nice place. Variety of fishing is deffo the key to keeping it all enjoyable. Also has helped me build up skills over the years which are transferable across the different types of fishing. Keep making the videos they are great 👍
@abakerslife Haha. Yes it is, but I didn't catch as many as you. Some fish in the rivers now, so I do need to get out there. Hope to see you on the bank one day.
I have a fairly new 5 weight and the troutlakes here are full of both wild brownies and wild char but the problem is there are trees hanging out over the water everywhere so no room to use a fly rod since this is a heavy forest area. So, i use it for seatrout and salmon but maybe one day i will drive up above the treeline and throw some hairy stuff out on the water:) I think it's sad that you have mostly stocked fish but you can still learn a lot from the bow's in case you try a loch or brownie river some day so good stuff:)
Where I am there is plenty of river fishing for wild browns but I'd have to travel a fair way for loch fishing. Fishing lochs is something I'd like to do one day but sadly life is but a fleeting moment and there are still so many rivers for me to fish. Maybe a belly boat would work for you on the lakes.
Why when you retrieve the line with your left hand do you have the reel set up with the handle on the right? I’m right handed and find it so much easier to have the reel handle on the left.
I usually use leftt hand wind reels but I bought that one cheap to use while fishing in the sea for seateout. I didn't realise it was right hand wind but it makes a nice noise when a fish pulls line so I thought I'd give it a try that day. I swapped to another reel half way through the video because I couldn't get away with reeling with the wrong hand.
Hi, I'm well thanks though Karla isn't with us anymore. I've been out fishing here and then but it just hasn't been the same without my furry sidekick so my heart hasn't been in it. Hoping to get out a bit more soon when the summer runs of salmon finally arrive in numbers.
@abakerslife it's like losing a best friend or close family member, she will be with you in spirit Rob and will let you know she's around. You obviously gave her a great life and in a while when it's time and feels right you can give another dog a loving home. My cat Luna will miss karla on your videos, she's a big hairy black thing and always got excited when she popped up on one of your videos. Look forward to your next video when you are ready but you just take the time needed and know we are all here for you if needed.
Thanks, it took the shine off my fishing adventures for a while but I've been back out since enjoying my time on the river. Not had any free time to put any videos together lately but will get to it soon enough.
