Salmon fishing in Duluth has been hot the last few weeks and with all the snow we have gotten has cooled water temps and kept the salmon bite good. My brother Wyatt decided to come up and get in on the action and boy did he come at the right time! We had an awesome day and even decided to go back out the next day! video on day two soon to come!

Looks like a blast. A few years ago I fished on a Duluth charter boat and wasn't very impressed. Couple small lake trout. One of these days I'll have to get my boat up there and fish the river and harbor. Not sure I've got the balls to head out on Superior, lol.

It’s defiantly less sketchy when you have a trolling motor just in case. But watching wind is a huge deal on the big lake. Once you do it once or twice it’s super fun!

I like the set up. You boys up there and the Huron side run the more sensible, no frills tiller boats. I have the same Alumacraft but side console version that Im selling for a tiller. Im getting tired if all the yuppies on Green Bay with their $80k boats and zero skill or common sense. I just flat line 2 rods behind boat 150' with my electric motor. I dont catch as many as the guys running 6 planers but its more enjoyable being so simple and quiet.

Thanks! Ya these little boats are awesome. Once my lakes up north thaw they r super ideal for the fishing we do. Also super fun to fish big water in! Just have to make sure the weather is decent or dress to get some spray in the face! I agree, guys got way too much in boats now. Sure it’s nice but in some scenes takes fun out of it. Someday here I’ll have a bigger boat for the big lakes (for like isle royal/the islands) but this thing gets me around and does everything I want just fine!

awesome, two grown a$$ men having fun hammering the fish, smiling and acting like little kids while doing it. Thanks for the info, we are headed north later in the summer and am looking at taking a day trip to the big water.

I go 2.6-3.3 and chance speeds untill I find what they r biting at. Then I keep that speed. For me usually it’s right at 2.7-2.8

crazy winter.. spring. how about the smelt? do the coho's follow the smelt in?

Ya super weird winter! The cohos are eating smelt. Most of the schools of bait I’m seeing with fish on them are smelt schools. I’m guessing this because multiple times when I have caught salmon this spring they have had smelt in their mouths still. The smelt are gathering to run the rivers. They should run the rivers when the temps get closer to the 50s. I don’t know exact temp off the top of my head but close to 50 degrees.

We don’t really when we r out deeper. Every once I. A while u will get one. I personally havnt caught them out deeper where we have been catching these cohos. I have a video coming where we did catch a brown with our cohos but we were like 17 feet of water in Wisconsin. That video will come next week.

Just found your channel! Awesome stuff! Live down in Tomahawk WI, always have gone over to bay of GB, might have to drive north and give Duluth area a try! Would normal planer boards (I use off shore tackle ones) work instead of your big board set up?

Hey! Thanks for watching! Yes 100% small boards work just fine. Big ones are just nice if u have lots of clips but small ones are fine.

New to superior duluth area but very interested in the big lake. Are you just trolling blind, and covering ground until you hit pods of fish, or are there certain things you are looking for structure wise

What I like to do is troll blind until I find schools of bait. I will mark the bait and fish if I run into them. Once I get out of them I will circle and go over them again. If they keep hitting I will just do circles if not I will change depths and colors until I find the days pattern. Changes every day.

@@northerntactics ok thanks buddy. I'll give it a try soon here. You ever do any surf fishing on the big lake? Only trout I fish is in rivers or up the gunflint so the big water is foreign to me. I just know nothing about the big lake fishing so I just drive by and wonder what I'm missing. Seems like a lot.lol

@@eduffy4937 go after trout in superior like you do inland. Jigging, down riggers early morning structure casting. I’m learning more and more every time I go out. I’m trying to currently get out and do some jigging just waiting for good weather. I will be sure to share what I’m learning in upcoming videos.

@@northerntactics oh inland lakers from a canoe I've got down pretty much to a science in the b-dub, I up there quite a bit and used to guide trout trips on the ely side. I'm just not used to soooo much water or the depths of available water, Or the different salmon, species. Those are new for me. But I will learn and get proficient. Hopefully. Just time on that water and local wisdom is all ill need.
