There's no doubt about them in high end markets, they can go far. Their affordable lines however are not as attractive as a few years ago. Killing the SARB lines by leaving the presage lines as the substitute was not the right move at all. You get less watch for the money. Not to mention they are all bigger size watches as oppose to the traditional 36-38mm size. This is also true for their Prospex lines, countless limited/special editions to grab their loyal fanbase money. Not a smart move at all.
@G1NZOU
@G1NZOU 4 года назад
@@HarryUnchained Hopefully they see their mistake and do better with their new ranges. It seems the Presage range seem to be capturing some of that international interest in the SARB domestic market releases but with cost cutting, some of the newer domestic market releases might be better.

Precisionist has a ticking second hands, 16 beats per second. Shut up if you don't what the fuck you are talking about Spring drive can't be considered a quartz movement, because the motion isn't generated by quartz but regulated by it.
@Sk3tchPad
@Sk3tchPad 3 года назад
@@morgenstern4.669 The whole “spring drive isn’t driven by quartz, it’s only regulated by it” is true, but this is true for ALL quartz watches. The only distinction is that most quartz watches use an electric motor and a battery, whereas spring drive uses a spring. Spring drive is technically a quartz movement, it just gets its own name because it’s a very cool quartz movement without a battery.

This is the ideal design for mechanical watches. This mechanism operates without batteries, yet an electronic unit manages all functions. The spring serves as the energy reservoir, similar to traditional mechanical watches. Magnets regulate speed, akin to regenerative braking in diesel locomotives. In Fields locomotives, energy is dissipated through a heater coil, while in this case, the energy produced by the regenerative braking powers the controller circuitry. No batteries are needed, eliminating the necessity to open the watch annually. There’s no risk of battery leakage, and the accuracy is exceptional.

This is absolutely brilliant. The biggest downside to a quartz watch is the battery, be it a regular button cell, a rechargeable cell, or a heavy duty capacitor like Citizen uses, it still is a vulnerability if one cannot be sourced. An automatic watch, while still vulnerable to impacts and wear, doesn't need any consumable power source.
@manoflego123
@manoflego123 3 года назад
@@mybrainlikesthings you're not wrong there, higher end quartz requires far less maintenance than even the simplest mechanical or hybrid drive movement. Even without AT connectivity a good quartz can still be less than a minute off over the course of a year, and a high end one may gain 15 seconds a decade at worst. It's really just the battery waste itself that bothers me. While one button cell every 5-10 years isn't exactly dumping used car batteries into the ocean, they are still technically hazardous waste if improperly disposed of. I've been trying more and more as I grow older to move away from single use batteries wherever I can. Even though mechanical parts need to be replaced and disposed of as well, in theory those are just base metal, and even if they can't be recycled they pose less of a chemical threat to the environment.
@chrislee6650
@chrislee6650 Год назад
@@manoflego123 In terms of environmental damage caused by replacing a tiny battery, how much do you think is saved compared to the months it took to build this expensive watch by hand? A single watch maker taking many days to build this expensive watch, think of the carbon produced by their daily commute to and from work, the heating and lighting in the workshop required just to turn out that one watch, the number of rejected components as they don't match the quality expected for something costing so much, the chemicals used to polish, etch and clean the components so people feel like they are getting something for the expense, all the chemicals that go into the over the top packaging? In the time it takes to build one of these watches, tens of thousands of ordinary battery driven quartz watches will roll of the production line using the absolute minimum of resources because they are cheap, they don't use anything they don't need to use. You also must take into account the servicing, this watch will need to be serviced regularly, it will likely need to be shipped back to a specialist who will then use copious amounts of chemicals to clean it. A tiny watch battery is the lesser of the evils here, and your TVs remove control uses loads more chemicals in its batteries but I bet that doesn't stop using it? These watches are not greener, they aren't better for the environment, they are just a luxury some people can afford, where they probably buy it on some holiday trip to New York or Japan producing more carbon and pollution. No one needs to be concerned about replacing a battery in a quartz watch, that impact is negligible compared to all the other things we consume.

The price of the Precisionist is also just a fraction of this Spring Drive watch. The same goes for complexity ... there's a lot more to go wrong with the Spring Drive. Finally, the "continuous drive" of the Spring Drive is mimicked by the Precisionist with its eight beats per second appearing as smooth as the Spring Drive to the human eye. The only down side of the Bulova is your bragging rights and finish of the watch. The Spring Drive will appeal to your vanity much more than the Precisionist.
