I raced with the Spring Energy: Speednut flavor (w/ Caffeine) at the Louisiana Marathon and had very consistent energy levels, no GI issues, and didn't fade at the end. PR'd with 2:56 -- give it a try!
I have previously used GU gels and switched to Spring several months ago after several races where my stomach got really off after several GU's. Highly recommend Spring just did a 50k and ate about 10 Spring gels with no issues!
Sounds delicious. What do you have for breakfast before a half marathon, just gels? How many water station stops do you take during a cold race? Good luck!
i like to eat a toasted sandwich of almond butter and jelly. if there's going to be a long time between breakfast and the race, i may eat gel 30 minutes before the start. i anticipate 2 water station walk/jogs during a cold half marathon
@@kofuzi Maybe consider oatmeal if you feel hungry @ mile 4. Oatmeal is a little bulkier and might fill you up physically with a slower absorbtion perhaps. Just a thought.
occasionally, i will eat eggs if i have enough time. but oatmeal may be worth trying. only problem is that i love all forms of oats (cookies, bars, muffins, granola) except for just a bowl of oatmeal
@@kofuzi Perhaps stir in the almond butter and mush in a banana to make it more palatable, but this is a 'scarf it down' moment. This is fuel and it needs to fill your belly so your stomach isn't rumbling after 18 minutes.
You mentioned you are looking for clean natural supplements that are cutting edge scientifically based....sounds exactly like the F2C Nutrition products that I use. I highly recommend the products, if you have time check them out. The REHAB 3:1 product has improved my recovery time after workout days significantly. Athlete focused, Science Driven is their slogan.
f2c has come up frequently in comments. it's on the list for things to try in the near future. my running buddy put my thoughts on it best: sometimes i want to train like rocky balboa, sometimes i want to train like ivan drago
I love the Cannaberry! It's my all time favorite gel and I am a huge Spring Energy fan. The Speednut is a new favorite and I believe it does have caffeine. Thanks for the review!
i tend to like this these days more as just actual food or pre-race food. i'd rather have this than a banana. i may explore some of the other flavors over this summer
