I LOVE these videos. I really enjoy being able to see these fabrics. I can rarely afford them but I love seeing all the different possibilities. I often sew while I watch these, and I often come back and re-watch time and again.
Fun to see the swatches, and very cool to see ramie included! Couple fun facts: ramie is the fiber type rather than the fabric type. It's a plant fiber like cotton and linen and can be used to make a range of weights/structures. So patterns listing "ramie" as a suggested fabric are being frustratingly vague in the same way as when they list "cotton". Trade names vary, but bamboo and rayon are both regenerated cellulose viscose fibers. Same with tencel and modal. In a lot of ways they are the same thing. There are differences in how different companies produce the fiber that produce slightly different properties (also tencel/lyocel is made with less waste, while things sold as bamboo are made more like a traditional rayon. Bamboo is not actually the most eco friendly fiber). But all the viscose fibers pretty much act the same at the fiber level, the differences you can actually feel are mostly at the spinning/weaving/knitting level. My understanding is that it doesn't matter all that much to the finished fiber where the initial cellulose comes from.
I loved lots of these! I love florals and colorful! If money were no factor, I would order probably a dozen! And I already have an entire wall, floor to ceiling, full of fabrics! (A lot of it is cheap, for toiles and practice.)
Thanks so much for this comprehensive review. I love watching these because I learn a lot. I’ve been away from my sewing for a while now and this is helping revive my interest. I will say though, I increased the payback speed to 2x and zoomed in on the fabrics. I don’t mind hearing your voice over. 😊
Ramie Definition from the Internet: The fibres are slubby which gives Ramie an appearance similar to linen. Ramie is reportedly "twice as strong" as Linen, one of the strongest natural fibres and even stronger when wet!
Loved your review and descriptions -- and especially what you would make out of the fabrics. I made notes on seven of them. Will buy two, plus one swatch, now.
Love watching the fabric videos. There are so many favorites I have this time! My sewing mojo just feels like its coming back, yeh. One question I have is, do you have a favorite culotte pattern?
Great video, thank you for talking about the weight and drape of each fabric. Do you think the Brussels linen (the one with rayon) will work for Simplicity 9925. I'm obsessed with those pants 😃 I could probably use crepe fabric but I want it more casual.
Love your swatch review videos! In your opinion, which to you think would make the best wide leg flowy pants, the soft washed linen or the Brussels washer linen blend? I'm looking for softness and flowyness. Which would you use? Thanks!!!
I'm shouting air force blue at the screen whenever you mention the blue you can't remember the name of 😂 It's one of my favourites and aka steel blue, am I thinking along the same lines or am I way off?
