A good portion of the state gets snow every year. Much of the northern, eastern, central and southeastern parts are well above 5000 feet elevation and forested. Flagstaff got around 7 feet of snow last winter and averages about 5 feet I think.

@@melindaroth5796sure thing. We just had a winter storm come through. 3 or 4 days of rain and a good bit of snow in the higher elevations. Long stretches of I-40 between Winslow, about 60 miles east of Flagstaff to Kingman, about 60 miles from California, were closed due to snow.

Our winter has been very warm. Usually we get lots of under 32° days and a few snow days. So far I have peppers still growing. My last frost is Mar 13. I'm sure we will get at least 1 snow before then. California high desert. :-)

Hi Angela! I love how easy all your videos are to follow! Thank you so much for taking the time to teach everyone how to garden 🥰 I had a couple questions for you, I also live in the Phoenix area, and am doing my best to start my first garden. 1. I’d love a peach tree, but I’m curious, do you think it’s smart to grow one in a wine barrel/big pot if I don’t have the ground space for one? 2. Where do you find your favorite seed swaps here in Phoenix?
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 6 месяцев назад
Peach trees do much better in the ground unfortunately. You could try the ultra dwarf Bonanza types if you want to grow them in a container. I'm hosting a seed swap next month: fb.me/e/1CUSLwHlS there are also other events Phoenix Seed Swap is a local group that meets regularly instagram.com/phoenixseedswap/

Hi Angela, I love your videos and your nature friendly approach. Thanks for sharing.😊. We live in Southwest France, and while the winters are pretty mild,; we have only had a few days of slightly below freezing, we have to bring all our citrus plants in undercover to survive the winter. I was so impressed that your oranges and lemons were doing so well planted outside. What is the secret? Do you protect them when there is a frost?
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 5 месяцев назад
We are probably a little warmer than you then. We usually get one or two mild frost events a year - established plants seem to do well. I only cover the ones in containers or newly planted ones.

Here's a list of heat-tolerant tomatoes that grow well in the low desert of Arizona: Punta Banda, Celebrity, Pearson, Speckled Roman, Black Krim, Atomic Grape, Sungold, Sweet 100, Yellow Pear, Canestrino, and Cherokee Purple. Chopping the bare root tree to 18" makes me so nervous. I would love it if you continue to add progress of your bare root fruit tree growth. I have 3 new dormant bare root trees that I just planted. I plan to prune them as soon as we have a few dry days in a row. Did you do the same to your stone fruit tree that was early in the video when you talked about pruning? That has a lovely shape.
@GrowingInTheGarden
@GrowingInTheGarden 6 месяцев назад
Sure. I'll show progress. Yes that peach tree early in the video had a young severe pruning just like that.
