Just went out and looked at a reach forklift I need to service tomorrow to see if there was anything else he needed. I looked it over and noticed the muffler sitting at a 45 degree angle open to the rain and snow then running straight to the turbo. Without having just seen this video, I probably wouldn't have thought about it. So he'll get a nice 45 degree tip on it. Thanks DP!
I knew within the first few seconds I was going to enjoy this and your video certainly didn’t disappoint. How on earth did you manage thumbs down reviews ! Huge thanks and stay safe. Manchester UK.
DP you are one amazing, "I can handle this", kind of guy! Always enjoyed taking things apart and figuring out how to fix them. Never taken an engine apart so this was very interesting. Thanks for another great video!!
Yeah Mike , it’s like if you bought the same mower part by part! It would cost 10 times more! These companies that sell you the mower charge so much for replacement parts, it’s freaking ridiculous brother! Your fab work looks great and I’m a retired welder/ fabricator/ Pipefitter for 37 years, great video and great job Mike! 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
I remember when I was a kid, how my brother and I ground the valves on a whole Ford 289. We had the heads on the kitchen table and grinded all night, so that the table would be empty for breakfast. We were 11 and 12 years old. It was our first V8.
Spending the first 28 years of my life growing up in an automotive machine shop, I approve. Lol. Great job. Not everyone can always spend the money sending equipment to the repair shop. I always try and repair everything myself.
I'm diggin the new muffler. When she's idling she sounds like a Farmall Cub tractor. I guess now you can call it a Scag Tiger Cub. Good job on the repair.
What a fun video! My dad was a welder/pipefitter by trade and did a lot of small welding jobs at home. It was only stick welding back in the 50's but he pounded it into my head not to look at the tip when he struck the arc. I did watch once and yes, eyes hurt for a couple of days! Even after 60 years (scary to think its been that long) I will still close my eyes even when watching a video!! LOL You really got off easy on this repair. I truly thought you lost timing in the valve train.
I was thinking he would build a Dirt Perfect muffler to match the rest of equipment yeah the price of stuff is crazy at least its fixed and The beautiful CEO Mrs Dirt Perfect can have her yard mowed . Keep up the great videos
even tho i am in Canada i have always used Jacks small engiens for all my parts, for over 30 years. prices are by far better price then any dealer, not to mention the great customer service
Very informative and comical.. no needless info.. ie. scraping the head or cleaning up the mess.. just to the point if you don’t know too clean up the spilled coolant you probably need more help ;)... thank you. Love your videos!
Good job, first thought a timing belt or chain or gear had gone. Nice diagnosis and repair ! Exhaust Mod was great done a few difference exhaust changes on machines where OEM was so expensive!
My dad used to say, “Things always happen for a reason. A smart man fixes the reason and not just the thing.” Loved your Farmall muffler fix!!! About that mess... don’t know how much was fluid spill... but I do recall the Cap’n amazed at the funnel collection that you didn’t use??? LOL Next step... turn Gunner loose and see how long that muffler lasts.
I’ve used Jack’s Small Engines in the past and they’ve always had everything I needed, saved me a few times! Good video Mike and good job brother, thanks for sharing and y’all stay safe and healthy! 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Any time you pull a valve train apart. Put lube on any metal to metal contact areas. Ends of push rods, valve stems and rocker arms. There is no lubrication until after start up and oil gets to those parts. If removing valves, the stems should have oil on them too,
Only one small safety issue I see is I never put antifreeze back in for the initial start, until I'm positive there are no leaks. Excellent vid Mr Dart Perfect,, please keep them coming, we need good entertainment, especially right now!
Great job! I have a SCAG TIGER 61 inch and love it. I also noticed the rear tires on your machine and I also put tractor type tread tires on the rear of mine and it makes all the difference!
To speed up lapping, I've used a drill from the underside at low speed. Put in a driver bit and connect it with a bit of tubing to the skinny side of the valve. Works great and is super fast.
I used to rebuild engines and the first thing I bought was a valve spring compressor tool. But you did awsome !!!! Nice to have the skills to do it yourself. When you going to get started on the deer. Nice vid Mike.very informative.
When the man said "$500 bucks" for a new muffler did he have a straight face? When I saw you cutting that angle on the exhaust end I knew what you were up to. Excellent Job, Sir! My first thought was a broken timing belt, pulley, or chain. This is an excellent example of why not to leave your stuff sitting outside uncovered. Well Done! Cheers from Louisiana.
side notes for future use on the next muffler you may need to buy, put a large worm gear clamp ( + thin sheet metal to spread out the clamping force ) around the muffler and weld the nub to the bracket, less chance of creating a hole. it looks like the radiator reservoir is missing and loosing coolant out the hole where its hose attaches to the radiator. glad at the end you had a chance to relax for a minute.
Amazing it didn't do more damage. Either the valve clearance is monstrous or the valves are straight up and the piston just kissed them up enough where they stuck. Great job on the repair, fabrication and all the money saved by doing it yourself.
In a pinch I have made a spring compressor out of heavy c clamp that is deep throat type. Also weld up some tube an use screw from clamp with a deep well socket on it to compress spring to release locks. Of course the mower didnt have enough seat pressure to matter. Have start doing that mower like old dozers 5 gallon bucket over the exhaust.
The word you were searching for was distortion . Friend of mine has a mower like that and he runs the wheels off it and it just didn’t give up, you can’t go wrong with that thing. Great videos Thanks , stay safe
helpful hint: turn the qaurt of oil over from the way you were pouring it so it will pour smoother. some qaurts even have a little diagram on them to show you the proper way to pour it
You did a great job well worth the time if you do it right. I understand I would not have paid that for a muffler either. No get to work. Its rain so much here we been cutting grass every weekend
I'm glad you got it fixed up cheap. Ours had got to the point after 10 years it seemed like every thing leaked oil. Not worth fixing. Dropped a little over 10,000 on a new one last month . I do like some of the new features . The seat suspention is much better. 😥
Awesome video! I like watching your teardown videos. You definitely know your fair share and I can always learn something new! Also, I recently got my Dirt Perfect hoodie in the mail, i think its pretty nice! Well worth the money! Keep up the great work Mike 👍
