*Very cool diagrams and explanations!* I see now why a loose a very light pellet could cause major piston slam. My Express hunter is shooting some lighter pellets good but I can clearly hear a noise difference inside (More "pingy")
Thanks! I need to get off my butt and finish up the rest of this series. Pellet fit is the largest and easiest to correct factor when it comes to bounce vs slam. I've had some slam so badly that they were uncomfortable to shoot. Certainly wasn't doing the spring any favors either!
I think folks are just busy with the holidays. This should be an interesting discussion. There are just so many dynamic factors in play from the moment the latch rod comes free, and the pellet starts down the lands. 🤓 Honestly, that specific territory is exactly what Spring Air Gun tuning is ALL ABOUT ! 😉👍 Everything from the trigger sear to the transfer port and getting it all to behave producing a desired shot cycle. 🤔
Between holidays, family, and the usual winter illness, there are plenty of other things that are far more important. That said, I think spring airgun physics is an interesting topic and hope others will enjoy the conversation as time permits. I'm looking forward to the next few videos on the subject since they'll dive a bit deeper.
