Rainy windy and cold where I am so decided to just go with it and make it a reading day. Have just finished The Hoarder by Jess Kidd. Late to the party, but what a novel! Always worth taking a gamble on books. As a reader I have worked out what my reading tastes are, so often it does not end well, but worth it for the times it does!
Very cool that you do open mic!! I'm glad you had such a great month. I bought incarnations on your recommendation and I'm waiting for ordinary human failings from the library 😊
Thank you 🎉Louise I shall get Incarnations as I am drifting towards Eastern lit at the moment it sounds great. I love Graham Greene too and Brighton Rock is one of my favorites well along with The Power and the Glory.
I haven’t read it yet but Edward Rutherfurd’s latest epic is “China”. I’ve loved his other work so imagine this one would give a fantastic look at China’s history.
Some great recommendations there Louise! All new authors to me…plus I’ve not read Graham Greene either so that’s something to look forward to. Hope you had a great time at the open mic!
Isn’t All the Wide Border a real gem? I loved it and really am hoping it gets some wider recognition. We had quite a fun discussion about the WP for Fiction longlist. The general consensus was that the Nonfiction longlist was much stronger. I am not going to read all 16 of the fiction longlisted books, but if the books I’ve read, I certainly thought Ordinary Human Failings was one of the strongest ones. I’ll be quite interested to see how you feel about other books on the list.
I think the non-fiction Longlist will be hard to beat. Am currently on my second of the fiction and enjoying it immensely. So delighted that you have come across Mike’s book. I adore his writing (and him 😊) 🙏🙏🙏💙💙💙📚📚📚
I’m currently listening to Brotherless Night It’s very good. From a woman’s point of view, it’s the story of what happened in Sri Lanka in the early 80s. It’s very real and personal. More like nonfiction. Very affecting. Also listening to Restless Dolly Maunder On kindle Om still finishing two Irish books Service by Sarah Gilmartin Night Swimmers by Roisin Maguire I’ve finished 4 from the Womens Prize on audio Enter Ghost Ordinary Human Failings The Wren The Wren Solider Sailor All 5 stars from me. It’s never stopped raining here. Piece on local news last night about potato crop being lost to flooded fields. In Wexford farmers had their local priest say a special mass for the rain to stop. Climate change is causing weird weather.
