Michigan Gone Wild hosts Alvin Sitkiewicz and Jordan Kettlewell float the Pere Marquette River with guide Steve Cornetet from Batcke's Baldwin Creek Lodge in search of Spring time Steelhead during the spring spawning season.
With fly rods in hand, Alvin and Jordan fight off some tough conditions to put some nice fish in the boat.

why use a fly rod with this rig?? Fly line is for casting tiny flies not a heavy sinker, right?
@MichiganGoneWild
@MichiganGoneWild 7 лет назад
Yes and no. Fly rods are incredibly versatile and can be used for almost any approach and presentation. I like to use fly rods whenever possible because I just enjoy the fight more than on a conventional rod. There are so many techniques and styles to learn with the fly rod and I like to experiment with them. We also like to present a couple different strategies to go after fish in our episodes. Good question and thanks for watching!

GoBlue7171 its called flossing aka fancy snagging.

Ahhh yea right. Flossing a fish that is actually eating in the river? Come on man. These aren't chins, those fish are feeding on nymphs and eggs.

I'm confused why the guide would promote targeting spawning fish...
@zimmcal
@zimmcal 7 лет назад
Pretty sure they're all in there for the same reason- to spawn. If you catch a fresh fish on the move it's still a spawning fish. I thought he said they were targeting drop-backs, but maybe I missed something.

i didn't see him posted up on gravel, he was fishing pools so obviously those are staging fish, not to mention he said he was fishing post spawn drop backs.

Put your time in. I fished for months without a bite when I started. Go put time in at popular places. Try a few Dams. Watch for guys catching and be sure to stay away from flossers,lifters and snaggers. Watch what the slayers are doing. Stay outa the way of these guys but stay within sight. Get a nice net and be quick to net a guys fish. Study his setup. Be kind. Stay positive. Offer it up. Go during the coldest and nastiest of days and be seen grinding. When old school guys see your commitment and they like you. That is when you will learn the tricks. Honestly nothing matters more than being able to read the water. See the seems and adapt to flow. Good luck tight lines

The snob comments make me insane. So, using a float with the weight still ticking bottom is somehow not flossing? Because the floss is coming from a slightly more vertical angle? Tying an "indicator" to the line somehow makes it legit? Or does it have to be totally suspended so the indicator isn't ticking? Is that ok? Also, don't use beads even though they are easier on the fish. The cool dude fly fishing guide schtick is annoying as hell. Real fisherman know that you should only be fishing with dry flies up stream without wading and using bamboo. Anything else is bush league. Give it a rest.

MrRyan6520 Unfortunately it comes with the territory. If you put yourself out there catching Steelhead or any other trout, your bound to get it. It’s a very snobby community and the internet has made it easier to say degrading comments without having to face the individual you are degrading. However, there are great people in the fishing community and I’ve had the pleasure of fishing with some very intelligent fisherman that do not portray what is seen on the comment threads throughout RU-vid. There’s still hope!

@@MichiganGoneWild spot on man. I am sure once in a while a fish gets flossed with this technique. However I bet 95 percent or higher of your hook ups are fish smashing the offering. Especially in that clear water with all that "gear" on your line. They would simply move if they were not feeling the way that offering was moving downstream. But for goodness sake stop chasing them fish! Hahahahahah I'd let them loose those fish while screaming give em the wood! Hahahahah this is why I could not guide . Tight lines! Cool video

Judging by any of your "fly fishing" episodes. I can tell YOU are. Nice try though. Keep up the flossing.

I see you guide for chins, so unless your stripping streamers, or fishing skein or cranks your flossing too right homeboy?

They aren’t snagging. They are bottom bouncing (a valid method) with a fly rod though. Also give a shoutout to the pins in the description!!

they're not flossing, i used to floss in the american river, believe me, this isnt flossing, hes using a bottom bounce method because getting a nimph and a egg down to the bottom in these river conditions would'nt exactly be easy to do.
