HI there. Thanks for the warm welcome and very happy to do the leg work! It's always nice to discover "new" music with blind buys especially when it's very affordable and even better when you find them in excellent condition. I'm more into old school 70s soul music so it's interesting to see how the 70s soul artists kind of adapted to the smooth jazz soul sound that was coming out in the 80s. Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to watch.

Lots of musicians I never heard of! I’ll look them up. Cool haul! Maxi singles are awesome. I sold a bunch of 12 inch Prince singles a long time ago. For cigarette money! The store gave me a lot of moolah. I quit smoking a long time ago, thankfully. Have a fabulous day! 👍🏻🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵✨✨✨✨✨

Question : Do I leave, or have a look at the records ! loL ! Oh Yeah.. 👍I listened to Grover Washington Jr. quite a bit in the late 70's "Bijou" was a good one ! I love 12" singles. So funny ! Who in the heck would show empty sleeves !! Haha I am guilty of showing sealed records that I'm not ready to spin just yet. Nice video. Nice score on The Dream Academy !

There were about 30 maxi singles in that crate and it's always tempting to just snap all of them up at 50p each but I concentrated on buying the ones I really wanted or wanted to explore via a blind buy. Yes. That comment about empty sleeves was a bit odd. It takes way too much time pulling out the vinyl so I think I won't do that again. The video was just too long! Thanks for stopping by and watching!

Good to see you again. It's easy to collect more music than we really have time to consume isn't it. I've probably bought fewer records this year so far than I have for a very long time. And it's also amazing how opportunities to buy more records present themselves isn't it. My last video was about just such an occasion. Sometimes it's about being in the right place at the right time. I wanted to say how much I like the Dream Academy. That was an incredible find you made there with the sealed Maxi single. They truly are one of my favorite bands. Sadly they only made three albums, but they were all excellent. My first intro to them was through that very 12 inch single too. It is a cover of the Smiths song Please Please Please. The song, Life In a Northern Town is written about Nick Drake. I actually like to tell in my videos how little I pay for many of my finds. I find it astounding how much some people pay for records. In fact there are some channels I stop watching because it irritates me when they say things like "...this was a steel at £50". I want to shout "No it wasn't!". This was a great video. Cheers
@retromusings

I had no idea that song was about Nick Drake. Thanks for connecting the dots there. It's great to see you back again . You have some great finds there . Abba's The Visitors is my favourite album by them . It's also great to see that you picked up that Martha & the Muffins record . They were very popular here in Canada in the 80s , with hits like Echo Beach , Black Stations White Stations , Cooling the Medium , and Women Around the World at Work . Their debut album , Metro Music , is a classic , and worth seeking out . If you can't you find it on vinyl or CD , you should look for their greatest hits albums on CD , called Icon , and Then Again : A Retrospective . They make great New Wave and Power Pop songs . Thanks , and welcome back !!!!

This is interesting.....all through the 70's I bought hundreds and hundreds of LPs, but never a Maxi-Single. That said, I can listen to the same song 100 times in a row; and I do that with many non-hits if you will. Frankie Valli just turned 90 Friday......better him than me.... Welcome back, happy spring, and look forward to more, thank you!

A lot of times maxi singles offer a different re-mixed or extended version of a song. I bought quite a few indie/new wave songs on maxi singles in the 80s by The Cure, Bryan Ferry, Madonna etc. The maxi singles were very popular then. Hard to believe Valli is 90. I saw a video of him on RU-vid performing...he must have been in his early 80s..and he sounded pretty amazing. Thanks for stopping by and watching.

Hello RM it's great to see you again,you did extremely well with these finds....right time,right place 👍👍👍 I have that Frankie Valli LP because I'm a northern soul fan and a couple of tracks on that LP are considered part of that particular dance scene 👍 DC Lee was one half of the duo Pepsi & Shirlee who were backing singers for Wham. DC Lee went on to do backing vocals with the Style Council and ended up marrying Paul Weller. I'm sure they divorced a good few years ago ??? She also had a bit of a solo career and her best known release was called "See the day",I have it on 7" single. Did you say you didn't know who Martha and the Muffins were ??? Surely you must have heard their biggest hit "Echo Beach" at some point ??? Needing to work on your house; I can relate. Mine is a mess. The glass of wine in the background is a nice touch; you could make that a signature touch in the background for future videos 😁. Welcome back, by the way. I, too have been busy and was both surprised and pleased to see a new video pop up in my menu. As for showing the records, I admit I was cringing when I heard the sound of the paper sleeves rub against the vinyl as you took it out. Couldn't that scratch the vinyl? As for the finds, that's a nice score for you. And I hope you enjoy them all. Maxi singles were a thing starting in the 70s with disco I think, with re-mixes of songs that weren't disco, but the 80s saw plenty of them too. I wasn't familiar with most of the artists you showed (often the case), but your excitement made them interesting. Again, nice to see you back.

Thanks for your empathy. It feels endless clearing out items from the home and dealing with house maintenance issues too...and working full-time. I can't blame you for cringing when I was pulling out the vinyl. Yes, it can damage the record. I don't think I will show the vinyl in future as it also just takes up way too much time as I aim to try and make videos as short as possible. There were so many other maxi singles and a few other albums that were in excellent condition in that giant crate but I just focussed on picking the ones I really wanted. I meant to ask you about The Eurovision song contest. Do you watch it? As an American, what are your views about it? In Sweden where I used to live, many people take it very seriously. Most years, I went to Eurovision song contest parties, where people would watch and enjoy it together. When I lived in California I tried to get our friends interested. It used to surprise them that the US had no representation in it. I get a little frustrated here in the UK, because British people have always been so sinical about the contest. They think the style of the music is geeky. It is, I suppose. In many other European countries I think people enjoy it for what it is, a contest to encourage friendship. It saddens me a little how this year the event has become swamped in so much controversy. It feels like it is being hijacked by groups that haven't fully understood what the contest is all about.
@retromusings
@retromusings 3 месяца назад
I don't watch it but can understand why it's a serious matter in Europe. In my view, it's a chance for countries to be unabashedly patriotic without being accused of being offensive and it allows countrymen to support and celebrate their acts...similar to I guess supporting their teams that are participating in the Football World Cup. I think most Americans tend to see it as a "cheesy" affair.
@johnbellamy3406
@johnbellamy3406 3 месяца назад
@@retromusings That is so sad, I recommend giving it another go. My experience is that most Americans aren’t even aware of Eurovision’s existence. When I’ve tried to explain it, they automatically say “oh just like The X Factor”, which obviously couldn’t be more inaccurate. The Eurovision contest started in the mid 1950s. It’s original purpose was to function as a bridge building event, to help European countries that had been in conflict a decade before, to find friendly and common ground. From the beginning, before the contests were even held, an enormous amount of cooperation was required between the participating countries to enable the event to be broadcast. The Eurovision zone is based on a radio signal sent from Switzerland (who were a neutral country in WWII). The zone exceeds the boundaries of Europe and encompasses Russia, the middle east, and north African countries, who could all join in, but seldom do. So, more than just a contest of songs, the event is really a grand exercise in international diplomacy. The winning country gets to host the event the following year and is afforded the opportunity to showcase their country and culture to everyone watching. Last year, the UK hosted Eurovision on behalf of the Ukraine, who had won the year before but were unable to host it themselves due to invasion by Russia. Did the Ukraine win because they had the best song that year or did they get so many public votes as a show of international solidarity? I don’t know, but I will say that that is the true power of the contest. It still works, despite being a ‘cheesy affair’. The opportunity for countries to be unabashedly patriotic without being accused of being offensive, the one that allows countrymen to support and celebrate their representatives is called the Olympic games. Though that competition has little or nothing to do with diplomacy. 😀
@retromusings
@retromusings 3 месяца назад
Hi . Forgive me for my ignorance. Had no idea it was started as a bridge=building event for countries. Thanks for educating me about the event. I appreciate it much more now that I know its background. I agree most Americans don't know what it is about (include myself). I have never viewed it as an X-factory type event. Thanks again for the explanation. :-)
