Spring Reverb is a mechanical reverb system which uses physical springs in metal 'tank' to generate beautiful washy 'verbs.
Anasounds Element and her trio of tanks is a no compromise pedalboard solution to get that real vintage spring sound and beyond!

How well will this work with the spring tank mounted inside a 1 x 12 speaker cab while running a high gain head like my EVH LBX 1? Would the distortion vibrate or rattle the tank too much?

Giant tank+ spring saturation + High pedal volume + mix is more reverb than dry = shoegaze

When i was young i always thought that spring reverb was only emulating a literal spring with water and reverb in a cave like enviroment, not an actuall spring. if you catch my drift.

i used to have a homemade spring tank as part of my drum kit for exactly this reason. unfortunately it couldn't take the abuse and the chasis eventually bent inwards rendering the springs motionless, and i didn't really feel like building another one since i could get a convincing enough sound using samples and electronic pads

Dude! Did not see that name drop coming 😍You're a sweetheart! I quickly tried these at NAMM, and they sounded great (from what I was able to hear through the hellish NAMM noise), and I'm happy to hear they sound just as awesome in your demo. Really cool concept by Anasounds. And thanks for going so in-depth with everything as you always do. Your videos are always a treat for the heart and the head ❤

This channel is the best ever for teaching me what it is that I want. I like the sound of chorus in recordings, but chorus pedals typically sound like crap. Luckily CS Guitars showed me the Boss pedal that makes the sounds I wanted. I wanted an EQ pedal, but I couldn't find anything out there that was really what I had in mind. Luckily CS Guitars brought me Target Mids. I like the sound of reverb in recordings, but most reverb pedals either sound garbage or do something different than what I want, and I ain't spending huge money on rack gear. Now CS Guitars showed me a thing that makes the sound that I want. I made a good choice to subscribe here.

These actually do sound pretty cool - I have absolutely no need for one - but I want one now! I'm glad the spring tank is separate, I was expecting to have the massive bashed spring sound every time you press the pedal board! My old Peavey Bandit has a proper old spring tank - it sounds really good actually.

Very nice segment. Thoughtful product. What's not clear, either here or at the Anasounds site, is whether either or both of the EQ controls are applied to the "send" signal, the "return", or both. In particular, changing the low end of the send signal alters the impact and "splash" of the springs in response to sudden transients. Hence my interest. But a nice-sounding unit, and well-demonstrated. Thanks. In the 1960s, there were a number of commercial products and magazine construction projects that added spring reverb to car radios. The springs were generally of the short variety, similar to the Le Bon. As I understand it, however, none were of the 3 spring variety, usually only single or maybe dual spring. I'm working - albeit too slowly - on a spring reverb for myself, using multiple spring lengths and tensions, and a mixer to combine the different return signals. I'm also hoping to build in adjustable spring tension, with a mechanisms to pull the return transducer-end back a bit or loosen it, on individual springs. I look forward to the results.

Ever heard of a zubetube? It's basically a cardboard poster tube with a distressed spring inside and two plastic redcup style cups attached at both ends. Put your speaker up against one end and a spot mic against the other and you can get some really spacy (albeit cheap sounding) reverb.

I've searched the Internet for a real review of this pedal and IT'S NEVER MOUNTED under a pedal board... Everybody repeat what the manufacturer says but we never see it in real action = What's the interaction of the power supplies with one of these reverb tanks? I've had the Sole Mate jr from Van Amps that was designed that way but when you mounted the tank underneath a pedal board or put the tank inside an amp it produced horrible hum and hiss along with the Reverb... I do want a real spring reverb like that but want to make sure it works before buying. If anybody did mount it underneath a board with a pedal power supply near it, please comment!

Theoretically you could hook any reverb tank that uses the same connectors up to the pedal and have a ton of control over an amps built in reverb tank that way. It should also be possible to hook the tanks in series or parallel which would be super interesting to see

I own a VanAmps Sole Mate Jr, which is the same idea. BUT, it needs its own power supply (12VAC), the pedal itself is huge even with a separate tank, and it doesn't have all of the controls this one does. But the tank is connected by RCA plugs, which means it's probably compatible with this unit, and that is good since my tank is already screwed to my pedaltrain. In conclusion, I might give this pedal a shot.
@sski
@sski 5 лет назад
Intredasting. I am a little concerned about the tank's reaction to heavy foot use on the pedal board, but this is a nice setup for those seeking spring reverb who don't have access to a unit built into an amp. I get folks questioning me all the time on my reverb sales when I have tanks for sale. They think you can just slap any old tank into an amp and be done with it. There are issues of circuit (capacitance and other considerations) that makeit a challenge to do so. This does away with all that. Thanks for the in-depth look.

Even with the little feet/isolate-rs I can't imagine how you would stop the springs from banging every time you click a pedal switch? I could see mounting the spring units on a separate board?
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 5 лет назад
The isolator feet are the same mounting method you find for spring tanks inside combo amps, where the tank is screwed to the bottom of the cabinet right beside the speaker. All the shaking and rumbling of the amps don't cause and issue. You have to hit the tanks quite hard before you get any impact sounds out of them. I'm assuming you don't full force stamp on your pedals to engage them, so mounting them under the board isn't going to be an issue.
@jayfagerlie3369
@jayfagerlie3369 5 лет назад
Sounds great, just like a reverb should BUT!!! What about isolation? How does it deal with real world stage noise? (bass and drums) Lots of suspension?
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 5 лет назад
All your old Fender reverb amps had the tanks screwed to the bottom of the speaker cabinet without any issue, these will perform just the same in a real world environment. You need to hit them quite hard before they start picking up outside vibrations, general stage floor rumble shouldn't be an issue.

Torsion shockwaves usually rather than compression
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 5 лет назад
Torsion would imply that the springs are twisting, when what is happening is the length is being contracted, compressing the coils of the spring, and that compression front travels down the spring. Springs are really good at compressing, it's like their whole thing. The transducer acts like a speaker driver, only capable of linear motion about one axis. Linear forces applied to in the direction of the spring axis translate into compression. It does not produce rotational forces that could lead to torsion.
@RussCottier

Are you absolutely sure about that?@@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 5 лет назад
If you want to provide me the evidence to the contrary to do further reading, then I'd like to hear it.
@ScienceofLoud
@ScienceofLoud 5 лет назад
Upon reflection the transducer could be imparting linear motion in one of two axis: Along the axis of the spring, creating longitudinal waves (compression) as previously discussed OR Perpendicular to the axis of the spring, creating transverse waves. If the latter then compression wouldn't be an accurate descriptive terms, but torsion would be equally wrong. Torsion, or the twisting of the spring, could only happen in the system as a byproduct of one of the other perturbations (i.e. the spring twists as the longitudinal wave is reflected at the boundary), it certainly isn't the active mode of the transducer. But, as I said, if you have documentation discussing torsion in springs as a result of linear disturbance, then I'm all ears.

CSGuitars Just Google “spring reverb torsion”. There is a rather good universal audio article on it which is pretty accessible. Just to be clear I said usually meaning that the common approach is twisting transducers as far as I know. I suspect the reason for rotational movement would be to minimise the damping effect of the spring and encourage frequency dependent delay time differential. (To clarify I think your videos are actually very good for the most part).

Now I want to see a plate reverb pedal...

You might want to check out the 3 videos on LeoMakes where Leo built a Plate Reverb from an Ikea shelving unit. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CZWAntOnrx4.html I'm considering doing the same, but building a pedal control surface (similar to what Anasounds have done here) to control it all. Pretty interesting project.

Spring may be the thing, but plate is great 👍

Am I the only that's hearing very little drip in a lot of this? Apart from Miserlou, all the demos seemed very dry.

How are you listening? I recommend some good headphones to hear it all best.

@@ScienceofLoud Maybe, Miserlou definately had a drip. My point was if someones shelling out on a reverb pedal that boi better drip like mad. Great vid tho. Bless

This absolutely does drip, but I noticed myself that depending on which device I listened to it on it was more or less obvious. Pretty much goes for all internet reviews, they are only a guide and you're listening set up will determine what you hear. You won't be disappointed with it in the room, and you can crank it more extreme than I did too if you desire.
