In my ongoing effort to post music from the past that no one else has posted, here we have a greatly overlooked single from the Springer Brothers entitled "Twice As Strong" from 1978 on Elektra Records. This received airplay on Detroit's adult contemporary FM station back when it was new, but unfortunately it wasn't a priority for the label so it went largely unpromoted.
I love reading your comments, so please feel free to comment on your memory of this track. Thank you for visiting, and please be sure to check out some of my other audio rarities!

The Springer Brothers were a Canadian group that had radio success in Canada (getting airplay on Canadian stations in 1978-79 for this song). Perhaps a programmer in Detroit heard this on the contemporary radio station CHYR 710 in Leamington which was only 35 air miles away (where GM Lou Tomasi and PD Chuck Reynolds both agreed on adding it to their playlist) as this selection qualified to be a Can-Con (Canadian content) song - something which Canadian stations were obligated to play at least 30% of between 6 am and 12 midnight. But it was a great contemporary song to be played and many pop and easy listening stations in Canada probably played it anyway. Apparently, the Springer Brothers released another song (the Everly Brothers hit "Cathy's Clown") in 1980 which was very laid back and never made the airwaves in Detroit or Leamington, perhaps, because it was a cover version of a song from a prior era. However, the harmonized vocals on it are very appealing and it can be heard on youtube.

Both "Twice As Strong" and "Cathy's Clown" had U.S. releases and both were played on Detroit's easy listening/AC station WNIC during Alan Almond's "Pillow Talk" show which aired nightly. Most likely promo copies were sent to WNIC by Elektra. R.I.P. Alan Almond. www.detroitnews.com/story/obituaries/2015/06/16/alan-almond-pillow-talk-host-dies-beverly-hills/28844163/

@@flexxmi I wonder if that airplay was inspired by its playlisting on CKLW, Windsor/Detroit's 50,000 watt powerhouse AM Top 40/AC. Their legendary Music Director, Rosalie Trombley, prided herself in unearthing amazing can-con to compete with the big FM's in Detroit, and for well over a decade it worked incredibly well, at one time being the most listened to station in the entire U.S. A Canadian station! And regards this song ... CKLW was playing it in August of 1977, I just discovered this on a radio aircheck - host Tom Shannon played it on 31 August 1977, and billed it as "The Neon Philharmonic". Apparently, that name had been sold to other interests who released singles under the name in the 70s, and this one came out in '77 on London records. I believe the Springer Brothers were also featured on that recording ... not sure if it was later re-recorded for the Elektra release or not.

@@jcdouglas64 The only track I recall from The Neon Philharmonic was "Morning Girl". I don't recall ever hearing this track by any other artist. I will have to check it out!
