SA is producing good 1911s. They used to ship out some garbage. I worked in a gunshop in the 1990s and I'd sent backlogs of their basic 1911 models. But itnseemed in the 2000s they batten down their QC and it shows. You won't have any regrets with a SA 1911. But if and when yiu get a Les Baer, it's a whole level of perfection. Wilson, Nighthawk, Baer, and Ed Brown are the Big 4, and they are all hand fitted after thr slide and frames come out if thr CNC machine cut larger than spec so the gunsmith can handfit every piece into thr pistol. Every part fits just right, made like they were born together. Slick, silky smooth with a Swiss vault solidity. Then the minor details lime all corners and edges hand filed to all sharp edges are dehorned so subtlety. The bevertail is fitted without any seams or gaps. The extractor is fitted and blended in so you can't even feel any protrusion or edges. Thr slide to frame fits exactly right. No over or under gaps. No over bites or underbites. I am blessed to have 2 les baers and 1 Ed Brown SF and a Ronin. All my pistols take turns rotating as my nightstand gun. The Ronin also serves as my truck gun. Thr baers and Brown alsonserve as my traveling companions. Good review.
Have a Springer Range Officer Elite 9mm commander size, and I thought once I got it back from its first range trip I'd be swapping out parts as well. Turns out wasn't necessary at all, gun functions 100%. Slide to frame, and all other parts fit almost close to a hand fitted gun. Tested extractor tension other night was off only by a few ounces, put a slight chamfer on it, run Wilson mags and that's it. The factory mags gave me two occasions at the start where the next round wouldn't strip from the mag, figured out when it was full the top outer lip of the mag was pushing out and would drag trying to load it. Other factory mag was fine. So other than the factory mags being hit or miss, Springfield does a fine 1911 for the money.
“This will hold me over until I have a les Baer” someone’s got way to much money haha that gun isn’t a hold you over gun it’s a beautiful 1911 and it’ll last longer then you the 800 version even being the entry level Springfield is still an awesome gun I think most 1911s over $1800 without some sort of legacy behind the pistol like Patton’s gun or something are just overpriced guns that you won’t really notice any major differences from.
The S&A magwell is one of the best addition to/on a 1911...I had one added to my Springfield Armory 1911 I had built back ca. 1992...haven't extended safety and slide release and a Pachmayr thumb guard between the left side grip and the frame.. full length guidecrodcwith the Wilson Group Gripper..had the ejection port lowered and flared, cooking serrations cut on the front of the slide and the front strap checkered at 20 lpi...
That's a sweet piece of hardware! Springfield 1911's are my favourite handguns. The look. The feel. To me, it's unmatched. .45 is a nice round, but I prefer 10mm. If Springfield ever makes a .357 Magnum version of the 1911, that would be nice too. So far, I've only heard of Coonan making a 1911 in that caliber.
I have a Springfield armory TRP operator… The only thing that I wanted to change was the guide rod… I’m going to swap it out for a Wilson combat guide rod instead of the factory one it comes with… Operates just fine with it but takedown is a little bit of a nuisance for me. Not really feeling the need for an Allen wrench to take it down. Other than that I feel like it is a merely perfect fire arm!
had a springfield 20 years ago. it was super picky about mags. factory mags were fine. but ANY of the brand. and i mean QUALITY brands it failed on a regular basis
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the slide release you’re using on this gun? I like it compared to my regular Springfield Garrison slide release. Love the one on your gun!
The great thing about buying a really well made 1911 is, you have a great foundation to spend a ton on upgrades and make a gun you'll have forever. I plan on being buried with my springfield ronin.
@@roughroosterknifesharpenin5531 dude it's on there website LOADED models from 920$ to 1400$.then u talking about doing upgrades to it makes no sense to me
Hmm not sure. Why does your have a barrel bushing.. instead of a match grade bull barrel? That was standard on springfield range officers compact of full size
B Blair let ask you this question? How many people in America has $3,000 to spend on a Wilson Combat? If you have that kind of money then buy one! Some people don't have the money for it.
I did the same work on my Loaded Springfield. Ed Brown, Les Baer, Wilson combat, Kimber and other parts were used to get rid of MIM parts. I didn’t change the palm safety. It was a learning experience how these pistols work too. Maybe one day a Wilson Combat, but for now the Loaded is perfect.
I have a new TRP. I have taken apart many 1911s over my 40 years of shooting, but I can't get the ambi safety out for anything!!! It will not come loose! Any suggestions???
Mine absolutely would not come out. I had to heat it and pry it on both sides. Ended up ruining the safety. This was on a TRP as well. Ended up putting a Wilson single sided safety.
Which trigger and hammer are you using in this video? I purchased a trigger and hammer from wilson combat but they aren't compatable in the springfield armory.
If you want a positive click using the thumb safety mark it when it's off and drill a small hole in it and that will give you a positive audible click when it's in the off position.I started building my own 1911s 35 yrs ago,no utube videos then.Get the Kunhunsens a shop manual 45 1st edition it details the fitting of every part of the for the 1911 and its clones.Great black and white pics.A must have if you own a 1911.45 bucks but worth every penny.
