Great review and great shooting. I have cleaned my extensively through the first 300 rounds and it seems to be running great. I just hope it continues cause I love this pistol.
Yes staccato mags the 20 rounders work in both guns.havent had any problems outta mine I've put 750 fmj's through. People need ta understand this is a production gun staccato is hand fitted and polished to run flawlessly.
The screws for your optic are a little too long. That's the daylight issue on the plate. I had the same issue with a venom viper. Just filed the screws down about a 1/4 inch and now fits perfectly. No light showing through at all. The screws that mount the optic to the plate are pushing up on the slide because There going to far down lifting up the plate. Hope that helps!
The hang up on the slide not going into battery is likely from the cekacote finish. At the price point it'd be nice if they ran flawlessly out of the box but it's not the case. Oil oil the slide rails rack the slide 1000 * clean and it'll run.
Same thing happened to my CZ-SP01 out of the box. Jammed the slide 3 times at a range at 50~ish rounds mark. Broke in, oiled, cleaned. After that, works flawlessly ever since.
Brand new 250ish rounds with no oil. Ill take it. Oil it up and run it. Give er a swab and do it again. Thanks for the review X. Now I need to buy another pistol.
Seem one at hickory gun show yesterday and they wanted 2000 bucks 😳 but I do know a person who has one and it’s crapped the bed already. I do like the gun tho it just needs to run first
You said the magic words, and I subscribed, that you were still using a phone. I try to subscribe to any gun-tuber I see making content pretty much on their own dime. Need to get you up in the subs so you can do more gun reviews. It's really tight, your wife does a really good job. Keep it up and I'll be watching you
Hey , my kid is looking for a job . He can run camera ,editing,production....for you. Even as a college degree in that. Since you are becoming big YT star , you gonna need staff .
I'm a huge fan of Springfield's 1911's I own at least one of the vast majority of their offerings new and old so when I heard they were finally doing a 2011 I had to order one. It's nothing to drop $2500 to $6k+ on a 2011 so for them to bring one to market at this price is kind of crazy... I've already heard of some people having problems but one thing I've learned already owning a few 2011's is they can be a little finicky but I have really high hopes for this one!!!
The 4.25 models are running better than the 5 inch models. The 5 inchers have too light a recoil spring. My 4.25 inch had a 200 round break in period. They do need to be well lubed and cleaned.
I just wanted to thank you, your family, and friends for producing such great content. you have inspired me to really get into shooting, and I just purchased my first ever bolt action rifle, and I love it. I'm going to start to train for shooting competitions, this winter, and into the spring. Thank you again, and I look forward to your next video.
@@XRING thank you, and I absolutely will. I’m looking at picking up a leupold Scope this winter when I upgrade to a larger caliber. Thank you again for all your hard work, and dedication.
I appreciate your simple and honest review. I'm willing to bet that the failure to feed issues were from a lack of proper lube. Usually whatever oil the firearm has on it is simply meant to protect it during storage, not to be run with.
It's a 1500 dollar pos. My 600 dollar m and p has never had a failure to feed. Never! 5000 plus rounds. Probably 10000 rounds. Not one failure to feed. Also I never clean the thing. Never! It's filthy. And she runs like brand new. You just made it so I'd never buy that gun
I cleaned my 2011 every spring, not cause it needed it cause I needed something to do. If you have to clean this every 200 rounds, throw in the trash. I’m sure it just needs a little bit of tweaking, but too many malfunctions stock is concerning.
You always get what you pay for I am sure some run better than others after all it’s memed parts inside , other reviews have had similar issues , thanks Ray
I never had or wanted a 1911 because of lack of capacity. Now that this is our I was going to get it. Then I watched probably about 60 videos on it and they are having too many issues for me and the price. I am down to the STACCATO or ATLAS style 1911s
Very typical for a brand new 1911/2011 to need a break in period. I’ve seen that exact failure to go into battery on new Wilson combats and Dan Wessons. After 500 or so rounds the moving parts start to polish together and slide even smoother. In my experience Springfields are always tight, which I like because either through manual polishing or use the parts will be polished and fit together, overtime creating almost a handful it gun.
Honestly springfield called it right. It's a 1911 hi capacity. The reason I say that is because the top of the slide is rounded like a 1911. The 2011's are flat on the top of the slide. The serrations on the side of the slide are 1911 deep and there are no weight reducing ports on the slide. Springfield designed this gun for a 1911 user specifically because it weighs, shoots and functions like a 1911.
Nice review. The increasing malfunctions are disappointing. Having said that, one’s unlikely to find himself in a Khe Sahn seize and being overrun. Nevertheless… disappointing.
Picked mine up for $1274. But I live in washington and the online dealer pulled out the mags so when it got to my gunshop it had no mags. No springfields fault but still bullshit. Luckily my dealer had mags. The gun itself feels good though. I'm planning to do a trigger, get rid of the mim parts, and I want to do v8 ports, some dlc coating. It's a very nice base for a 2011 build. Yes I know it's not a 2011. But I don't care
Great review. Despite a few hang-ups, the content was positive and candid. I would like to know which G Code holster you’re running though….Many thanks!
I thought that's a pleasant change a Prodigy that functions. Unlike most other reviews shown. But it only took time to start having problems. I wouldn't touch one, Springfield obviously didn't do any reaserch and development on this pistol.
That's absolutely not true.... Even when the first 2011's came out sti had problems out the box. Even the 2011 ran in the John wick movie was tuned to properly run. All 1911's have a break in period and tune period some are break in then tune and others are tune then break in. Thuis is not an instant gratification like others this is a 1911in a new generation and price point....learn the difference also if you don't tune your gun or understand what can help or hurt then mabey you need to stick with a glock.
@@driftitlikeyouownit yes it is, bwtween ny shooting buddy and I we own 5 STIs and Staccatos, they all easily run 1000 rds between cleaning, and the 3 Staccatos were 100% out of the box. The prodigys are OK, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR !!!
@@XRING we had about 13 or 14 same thing 175 to 250 rds start seeing issues. Pull slide back and slowly release it. The disconnector drags and sometimes holds the slide up without the slide stop at all. It's not returning to battery or cycling properly on all of them.
Appears it's going to be a much better gun after they release a "Second batch" of them that fixes this problem with the hangup with the side and trigger group. Probably a real easy thing to address. Wish these manufacturers would have shooters use the guns by hard before they release them to three general public. They will get it resolved and the next batch will be much better.... Still a great value.
the glass of the fast fire 4 fell out after about 700 rounds. went to the a14b plate and put a 508t. then the rear sight fell out after about 300 rounds. the dot was good, tho. might just go without a rear sight since it's already dialed in pretty well.
If you want one of these, good luck. I've had an SA-35 on order for a year now. I asked SA when they might be available in quantity, that was late last year. The response was 2nd quarter this year. Crickets.
It's nice to see some more DS 1911's on the market. People just don't realize how nice they are to shoot until you try one. It's unfortunate about the malfunctions. Hopefully Springfield isn't using the buyers to beta test their new offering. My Staccato P has been malfunction free since day one and I usually go thru 300-500 rounds in a range visit. I do clean it more than my other pistols.
Ive been hearing the Prodigy is having some major 1st gen issues in the reliability department. Hopefully Springfield will fix the issue. Hard to carry an unreliable carry gun. 😂
I almost bought one last week but starting to hear of issues with feeding and the optic plates I want for my DPP isn’t readily available so I’ll wait until early next year if think
During the video you had mentioned being able to see daylight between the optic plate and the slide. I had the same problem after mounting my red dot. Double check the red dot mounting screws (not the optic plate screws) to see if they are too long. The threads in the plate are shallow and if the screws are too long it pushes the plate up away from the slide as you tighten them up. All I did was mount the red dot to the plate first to see how much the screws protruded past the plate. I then trimmed them as needed to be flush with the bottom and reassembled everything.
How many times has this happened to you? In the middle of a gunfight, you hit the mag release by mistake and end up dying. My Prodigy wont drop the magazine until it is empty. Is this by design????
Right now you can't find one for under $1700.00, and for most people the only place to purchase them is on gunbroker since only a few dealers in the country even have them. Some are running as much as $2700 for buy now option. Once you buy the Hex, pay your tax, and transfer fees, the cheapest one will cost around $2200. For that price I'd rather purchase a Staccato P with no optic. If you do slide cuts and a trigger job to the Springfield to make it even close to the quality of an out of the box STI, it will be more expensive than an STI. Best to just wait until dealers stop marking the price up like a bunch of idiots, or just buy an STI.
Hmmm, finish coming off, not reliable, mags arent drip free.... i get that this isnt necessarily a carry gun, though its about g19 size..... i'm having a hard time finding the 1500$ value after watching your presentation. I've always enjoyed your content, but i feel like i'm missing something on this one.
Seems most reviews I've seen involve stoppages. That's not even close to decent reliability, 1911 or not. Maybe SA should have called it the Choke-amatic. :D Thanks for the top shelf reviews.
I had a 5” that never worked out of the box. It had to be sent back to Springfield Armory. I have a Dawson Precision 2011 9 mm major pistol. I sold the prodigy because I had so many problems with it.
I’d love to see someone do a complete tear down on this pistol. I’m glad that SA came out with a 2011 even though they called it a 1911DS. I’d also like to see 1,000 rounds ripped through this gun. I don’t expect them to get everything perfect right out of the gate as this seems to be the norm now for most new guns, but in 6 months the batches being produced should be pretty good and I’m sure the after market parts suppliers will be chomping at the bit to replace any inferior parts.
I was with ya right up to the rock island comment. I have a pro tac that has eat anything I’ve fed it right out of the box and a 4.25 prodigy that is the most temperamental gun I’ve owned. I hope it becomes a little more reliable with a couple hundred more rounds.
I'm sorry but for $ 1,500 i would have expected better. Nice pistol but you could purchase 2 0r more Sigs or three Glocks for the price and not worry about hang ups. It does shoot outstanding thow.
For the price difference between this and my Staccato C2.....well I could've had a Ferrari of a pistol. The grand difference will get you a performance trigger, replace the MIM parts and possibly get an Aluminum Grip module. If I'd known these were coming out I would've waited.
ill wait to see if they update it and for the price to drop down a couple of hundred dollars. Its going to be a tough wait because even with all the hiccups its been having, I have hope.
its like 1499 msrp for a double stack vs 799 for the ronin. The Emisarry is like 1349. if just have to have it in double stack or are john wick SA make more affordable options imo.
I know how well you shoot . With the trigger and the sights not being right for you it showed at the range . Springfield makes nice 1911’s so I give this model a mulligan.
I got to shoot one of these, iron sights, at practice this evening. I normally shoot optics. I ran the Prodigy for 2 runs through the plate rack at 15 yds. Even though I had to tilt my head back to see the front sight through my readers, I shot it accurately. It runs very smoothly, the trigger felt nice to me (I don't own 2011 or 1911 pistols), the recoil impulse is very soft -- I could tell that if I owned one I could get it to run fast, and better shooters could make it very speedy. I'm tempted to get one but I'm eager to see how the first run plays out among the current user pool. The guy who brought the pistol to our practice today, he brought it straight from the store. Several others shot it before me. The owner was using his own reloads on brass used many times already, and a few rounds bound up a bit upon entering battery. You could see the ring left on the brass, suggesting it was a bit bulged where it bound up in the chamber mouth.
Looks sweet. I have a 2011 C9mm that is my favorite of my pistols. Went through 3 magazines at my permanent range this morning . I also have a portable range too. Good shooting. I'm impressed with the pistol and your shooting
