are you able to put a shok buffer into the tooless guiderod? or is there not enough room.

You should be able to, but I'm NOT a big buffer fan, I have used them, but I don't like them much, they cut the slide travel and cause issues at times.

I’m 77 years old. I’ve got 52 years of 1911 experience. I’ve always stuck with the GI system no guide rod. I tried them,never noticed the difference

There is NO difference, we did a Video about it with Sheriff Jim Wilson. But we used the Dawson on the Prodigy because between the two piece and this one, this one wins.

Loved the video. Just installed the DP guide rod update. Per your video, you installed with the original recoil spring. DP's website indicates their guide rod works only with Wolffe springs (round spring). Since the original original spring was used in the video, can I assume yhe original works okay?

I used the factory spring because it was working perfectly well with it and I didn't know what spring weight to get from Wolfe. I might do further research to find out what spring weight works good with it.

Yessir DPM was EXTREMELY popular in the competition arena, but they’re now blowing up into the defensive market. I always replace the oem guide rods that are plastic, sorry, ‘POLYMER’, with steel or aluminum guide rods. When I got my Walther PDP I did some research and decided on the DPM RSA (Recoil Reduction System) on my PDP. I figured with the HOB that the PDP has, similar to a P320, I’d need that kit because of the muzzle rise. Well, it wasn’t as bad as the P320 when I got it, but I went ahead and installed it. The kit comes with three springs of different weights depending on ammunition used and preferences. I went with the long-heaviest spring, and I’ve got over 1500 trouble free rounds fired through it with a significantly improved recoil impulse. They make very high quality recoil spring assemblies. Only problem I had was I had to order it from Germany as they were out of stock in the states so it took awhile to get here. Then I put in the DPT (Dynamic Performance Trigger) into my PDP and it’s the absolute best shooting handgun I’ve ever fired. The trigger is better than any other striker-fired handgun and arguably, better than a lot of 1911’s that I’ve fired. Not all of them, but a vast majority of them! DPM makes high quality parts. If my prodigy needed to be sent back to SA for warranty work would it be a good idea to to put the stock guide rod back on? Just wondering if this could void the warranty.

Honestly, I don't think so, but if you like to do that, doesn't take that long to change!! This Guide Rod is VERY easy to change.

when sending any gun back for warranty work, always put the stock parts back in it. odds are you will not get back your aftermarket parts if you dont.

@@leftyo9589 That is something I always do. For the most part companies do return custom parts, but you're better off not sending them to begin with.

The full length guide rod is a solution to a self made problem. They don't do anything for accuracy. They don't do anything for spring life. They add weight to the bottom front of the 1911. Why? To reduce muzzle flip on a lightened gun. Lots of people want to complain about a 9mm double stack 1911/2011 because of muzzle flip, while ordering them with lightening holes in the slide, aluminum frames, etc. They're only there to add weight back.

I don't think so, this one has a little ledge for the Swiveling clamp can securely hold the plug under spring pressure.

YUP, good product!! I will be doing some Recoil Spring testing with the Prodigy here in the not so distant future, to illustrate how you tune your recoil spring to your load.

Yes, they do make them for Bushing Barrels, I wish they made them for the 4.25" Commander length, I think they do 4" and 5"

Instructions for similar for all guide rods, but the build applies slightly different based on maker. : Dawson uses the wing to lock the spring in place. Atlas Gun Works uses a nipple to lock spring in place. Excellent video, quick replacement and ready to go.

That's why this video is titles Dawson Guide Rod for the 5" Springfield Prodigy. This Video is for THAT specific brand and THAT specific pistol. We didn't want to confuse people and do different product son the same Video.

Send it in for repair, That is a weak extractor. It is a simple fix, but when you have a Lifetime warranty, take advantage of it. Have you done any Custom work to it??

@@yrsued not yet, only have had it for a couple of weeks have ran 450 rounds through it. been looking at putting all new innards in and respringing the mags.

@@kvnkaveman If I had issues with a new pistol like that, I would call customer service and get a Call Tag and get it sent back immediately!! THAT is what the Lifetime warranty is for.
