I’m envious. What an honor for you to handle an authentic piece of early US history. An absolutely beautiful military arm. Thank you for sharing!!!

I love the old military arms simply because they are so elegant without being flashy. The stories that old soldier could tell if it could speak! Thanks for sharing!😍

I have one that was converted most likely for the beginning of the Civil War. The conversion is somewhat crude, however probably converted by a blacksmith. other than the lock plate no other parts have been altered. The ramrod is also most likely civilian too. The opposite end has been sharpened to a point also original to the musket's conversion. The musket also has a faint engraving of the word. "Maryland" in the same location as described in the video. The musket was found in an old outbuilding in Somerset County Maryland in the area known as Shell town. The lock plate is marked "New Haven" with an eagle. It is one of the contract musket manufactured by a armory owned by Eli Whitney.

This is so cool, I just shot my 1795 Springfield replica today. Your video finished off a very satisfying day.

The reason there's so much of an "influence" is the French gave/sold the early Americans their tooling and parts for the 1866/1868 model. The 1866/1868 French musket was already replaced by improved models with different features. Btw, Charleville is not the name of the model but one of several French Arsenals, such as St. Etiennes and others.

Does anyone know what type of stain and finish they used in that time period?

I have had 3 of these Maryland branded muskets over the years though not in this nice of condition Sold one still in flintlock on eBay not that long ago, pulled the lock and sold it separately I am pretty certain it was used in the war of 1812

Military Muskets have always been more of my cup of tea so something like this personally hits right at home. Just an absolute beautiful piece of American history. It doesn’t get much better than that.🫡🇺🇸
