Monmouth University history professor Katherine Parkin talks about men, the automobile, and mobility in late twentieth-century American culture. She also discusses how the music of Bruce Springsteen is central to capturing the meaning of the car for both men and women.
Katherine Parkin is an Associate Professor of History at Monmouth University. She is the award-winning author of Food is Love: Food Advertising and Gender Roles in Modern America (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2005). Her new book, Driving While Female: A Social and Cultural History of Women and Cars, is forthcoming with the University of Pennsylvania Press.
