The green is so gorgeous. But I am curious to know if the brown patchy areas are places that were scoured down to basalt. Everything is dry and brown here in California.
Alas, it will surely look very different when I visit in late August. I don't see any outlet streams, which leads me to ask: What - if anything - keeps the lakes from becoming stagnant, algae-choked, etc.?
Both Downs and Rock Lakes have small inlet and outlet streams so some freshening of the lake water. Downs Lake, however, is choked with surface vegetation that is clearly visible in the video. A lot of movement of water occurs via groundwater entering from around the lakes too.
