The many dramatic, unique and sometimes bizarre landforms created by huge, cataclysmic Ice Age floods in the Pacific Northwest is explored via unmanned aerial vehicle and still photographs.
Your explanation of the swirling water creating the potholes was a necessary bit of information that I enjoyed...thanks! Nice job...I will see them in 3 days.
I just got into geology during COVID via Nick. Been in the PNW for 11 years and never been to any of the coulees in this floods A to Z. I gotta go see this ASAP 🤩
Your Contribution to my visual understanding is wonderful of one of my favorite touchstone places. There are even a petroglyphs in the East Lenore Coulee
-What a Gift♥I have driven a photographed these areas for man years and to see such high resolution areal imagery of landscapes I'm very familiar with definitely emphasizes the word 'scablands' I really appreciate these perspectives.
Watching Nick Z's videos have brought me to this Bruce. This is excellent work! I like the commentary, descriptions, and other additions do not distract from the pure beauty of this place. I am just now watching the videos with Nick letting Randy Lewis tell the indigenous stories. Thank you again Bruce, what a wonderful, outstanding video!
This video is full of fantastic formations. Some I'm sure I've walked over, ignorant. What creative thinking to theorize about these puzzles! This year: I promise to take serious time at a few. Wonderful, Bruce. Thank you.
If each rhythmite represents a separate flood then there should be a lot more volcanic ash deposits. Between Mt St Helens, Rainier, and Hood there have been four eruptions in the last 200 years or so.
Fascinating! I can see ... but ... it's on a scale I was not fully prepared for! Even knowing the theory but, BEAUTIFULLY shown by your wonderful photography. Absolutely stunning video and what an amasing landscape! WOW <3 <3 <3
Some kind of flow separation occurs when floodwater spreads out. Mostly it’s two cataracts, but at Dry Falls, which is wider, there are three cataracts.
I was thrilled you mentioned all the paired dry falls. Do you have a theory as to WHY these cataracts seem to be binary? Philippi Canyon, which I just watched, also has this feature.
I’m relieved you said there’s no obvious connection to glacial lake Missoula floods. I’ve been flying over these parts for decades into Seattle. The fact that the coulee starts with a giant pucker in the plateau is pretty plain to see from up high and has always confused me. It’s especially exciting to learn from you and Prof. Zentner how old these coulees might be, and how many more flood cycles it probably went through in its formation than commonly thought.
i grew up not far from this rock and we'd love to go there during meteor showers. You could spread out blankets and pillows and be away from the "city lights". I had no idea this was part of the Belt Supergroup. The more you know. Thanks for the great video!
Excellent drone videos. Thanks. Amazing that J Harlen Bretz was able to visualize these features as evidence of a great flood without ever seeing them from above.
Posted 8 years ago, I haven't searched the Missoula floods in half a year... and yet youtube somehow knew to pop it in my recommended feed today. Watched it and loved it! Saw some things I hadn't seen before. Thank you. Coincidentally, I also like jazz and new age music. The algorithm knows all. All hail the algorithm.
You might be losing some viewers by starting with music. I nearly clicked away before I heard your voice start. Maybe do a " welcome to Ice Age Floodscapes " and then have the music start.
