If you can change the tempo to see pressures coming and get into good plays that is a great option. Sometimes playing up tempo can eliminate a bunch of blitzes and narrow down the scope of what the defense can do. The reason I like gap schemes so much is the ability to gap out or gap down vs stunts and pressures. I personally like QB runs vs blitzes and pressures because it forces the defense to gap out their pressures and you add a blocker by using the QB as a ball carrier. Speed Option is always a good answer vs pressure especially inside pressure. Sprint Out can help alleviate some pressure and the need to throw hot routes or sight adjustments. Quick passing game and screens will also help vs pressure. If the defense doesn't get to the QB they may not pressure as often.

I have only seen the Tony Franklin system stuff a few times. The Cal QB is pretty good.

swag route lol solid name... I run that sprint out of a 3x1 concept where field 1 runs a width hitch.. 3 yards up field and towards the sideline with a corner from field 2 and a late developing out rote from a split tightend after his chip... width hitch very easy completion against quarters and cover 3 always to my most athletic receiver that can make plays after the catch

You should come to Texas and check out how hardcore the state is on HS football. Any big time school in the DFW area would blow you away. If you ever decide to do a clinic in Dallas, and its open to anyone, count me there.

Coach, with the Flood concepts at the end, how do you handle these vs your trips coverage of choice, Mix? Seems like the two Flood combos with 2 in the flat would be your best bet, and put pressure on the mike (or flipped will) to get out there to cover the flat by 2 with nickel dropping out on 2 to the flat?
@CoachMac

I think 2 to the flat is tougher to defend

For the pick and hinge side of the protection, how do you handle a 1 tech? Do you just have the backside guard also reach block?

Could yo do a quick pass out of the diamond formation with the isolated wideouts

Threw a TD Friday from a 3 Back set with WRS isolated in press coverage.

coach could you hinged away from the sprint out and run the back towards it to take care of the end? just a thought. I was wondering what you think. the only thing I can think is you can't account for the mike on the outside contain.

Coach, I know this is an old video, but I was watching this and had a few questions for you. 1) I am about trying to minimize as much as possible. If I install both full slide and the first sprint out pass pro you showed, I now have to install 3 and practice 3 different pass pros with half slide being the third. Ideally, I would cut that down to only 2 pass pros. Which would you keep between full slide and the first pass pro you showed? Yes, full slide is more versatile and has uses beyond sprint out, but the first pass pro is probably better for sprint out because of the contain block you mentioned. I do like that you can use full slide for quick game blocking, and it's easy to adapt for use with a TE (especially in-line TE) or H-back in pass pro. 2: With the first pass pro you covered, do you think the contain block can come from #3 in a normal trips alignment, or is that too far outside to get there in time and with a good angle? Would it only work with #3 as a wing or in-line TE (trey set)?

I would keep full slide for play action stuff, but if you are sprinting Out a bunch I would use the first protection shown. #3 can certainly handle the secondary contain rusher

Coach, would you use the first protection (zone frontside-hinge backside) for the hitch boot concept or would you consider that 2 different things ?
@CoachMac

I would full slide the boot concept

thanks for posting. I have literally checked every day to see if you've posted another video since the last one. we play a team in a couple weeks that plays zero coverage and blitzes every play of the game. been thinking of different ways to attack that... and sprint out passing with OLINE gap blocking away is one of a few things I have in store. what do you think? anything you'd suggest? I'm thinking sprint out, QB runs, and middle screens with the RB

+Holt1981 I'm not a coach, but if I was playing a team who played man, blitzed every down, single high safety etc (Arizona State does that a lot), assuming I was an OC which im not, if anything I would coach defense, I would be a up tempo offense, use different cadences to declare the defense of any pressure, then work my concepts away from it as im sure you already know. So Sprint out game already sounds very appealing to you, especially at the middle school level where kids obviously cant understand advanced protections/ concepts. For example: I'm in 10 personnel 3 by 1 and I read what might be Zero with a double A gap blitz, or a strong side blitz either one. If you think it might be an A or B gap blitz, you can move the pocket to the strong side, work those concepts and in the run game get your best back or QB to the edge with jet sweeps, buck sweeps zone stretch plays etc. If I see a strong side blitz coming from the 3 receiver side, I might check out of any sprint out game options to that side, and work a concept or my run game weak side, by sending a guy in motion across the line, make it 2x2 then quickly snap the ball and run my pass game or option game or QB run game away from that heavy blitz. When teams zone blitz it can get a little tricky but who am i to really speak. Just thought i would share my ideas with you, im sure Coach M will provide a more satisfactory answer. I'm 20 btw.

+BJJaggieFutMarine That's a very good answer you provided. You have a good football mind for a young guy.

+Holt1981 if they blitz every play you must be able to run a power to the short side of the field and follow up with trap plays to the wide side. of course you will have to be patient, but you will be able to run play action passes if they are constantly having to check what the backs are doing. Motions can cause confusion with the linebackers if they are constantly blitzing gaps. Have motion guys block down on linebackers and run outside toss plays.
