3 Step Passing Concepts for High School 

I found that if you teach them slow feet on quick game it works better. We throw it catch right- left-ball out. Having them read inside out and reach one drop step back and away from play side with their throwing foot, then pick up their non throwing foot as they are reading and place it toe open to the read target. They should only push their non throwing foot to be about 18 inches from their back foot which keeps them from throwing a baseball throw but puts him in a wide enough base to have enough push off his back foot to generate a crisp and tight spiral but no hitch and push that initiates the shoulder tilt and full core flex that generates a power throw. We want a quick pass not hot ball. Catch small-small is another way we term our quick game drop.

Coach this is amazing. I've worked my way through the hoops of positions; coaching every position from youth level to Junior College and now I am a coordinator and running the OL. And to hear you speak about steps in the routes took me back to my receiver days and stressing even and odd foot strikes for efficient routes, had me ready to shout. You brought some simple reminders in play with specific pre-snap reads for coverage that I've seen coaches slip away from and come back to it when things have gone wrong. Because we do tend to forget sometimes the Importance of a fundamental. Great job coach. Thanks. I've been coached up.

Yes we have quick game cut ups.

Hitches have slants backside and the fade has an out backside. You can call the play however you like. We usually have a hitch call and a fade call.

Sometimes you can get the skinny vs 1 high teams. The bubble is really an outlet if the coverage changes post snap and takes away the qbs throw to that side based on his pre snap read .

Can you do any film room study stuff. Im going to be a senior and i have been a receiver my last two but I wish to presue my dream of being a quaterback. I pride myself on being very football smart but i would like to see some of these concepts on film thank you.

extremely informativel. I just coach flag football for 11-12 yr. olds but these concepts are still very helpful.

Need those backs to understand it is an aggressive block. If they keep their helmet inside and attack the ball should be out if the QBS hand if they miss.

We have to give a direction call so the receivers know what routes to run on each side so it's easy to tie the oline to that. If its two back we keep both backs in.

when would you throw the bubble? or the skinny in the trips?

Coach, I love the concept and I would love to implement it. We are a flexbone offense and we need to improve our passing efficiency. I would really like to be able to run this out of our base flexbone formation (2x2 with Abacks lined up as wings off the hip of the tackle) as to not give away tendencies. But I feel like it would be hard to get those Abacks involved without changing the formation. We see a lot of 3-3 Stack Cov 3 and 4-4 Cov 3. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Coach, Do you have a preference putting you hard/soft beaters into the field/boundary. 17 yards from Hash to sideline isn't a ton of room to work with in high school.

Great concepts we will be implementing in the fall. Question though for your own self-examination. Why have two protections (slide left + slide right)? If the QB has a license to go either way, why not just have the kids always practice sliding the same way in that series? I could understand if you knew the qb was always throwing to a side....slide the protection that way to get a helmet on the 5 tech quickly. But since he could be throwing to either side, it would make sense to me to teach the ol/rb one way so they get twice as good at it. Also, what do you do with the second back in two back? Bubble?

Coach, First, thanks for the videos they are very helpful. Next, I would like to clarify, with your protection does your QB adjust or change the slide protection from one side to the other if he comes off the hitch to the slant pre snap or does the protection stay the same? Second, we run a lot of 2x1 what do you do with the RB out of the backfield to the one receiver side in your concepts? Thanks Coach.
