Dilly has the most offensive upside in this draft class. Makes sense
@Leo-nc3yx

I mean it make sense to draft Dilly who has the most offensive upsides of the backcourt in this draft. He might not be the most all-rounded choice,but the other guys in the draft are either specialists of one department or massive bust potential with undeveloped skills.

I'd not be mad about drafting Rob Dillingham. He's not perfect (undersized, not good on D, not a "pass first") but he *can shoot* and create his own shot!
@MarquisVegan
@MarquisVegan Месяц назад
I think his defense can improve under Popovich... the Spurs system being built around Wemby I can see Rob turning into that pass first type guard. If it is true he wants to join the Spurs I think he would already be set to buy into the Spurs system and do whatever Popovich ask of him.
@Leo-nc3yx
@Leo-nc3yx Месяц назад
@@MarquisVegan I agree, based on some articles it stated that Rob has a 7' wingspan? I know it sounds crazy, but I will not be mad if his real wingspan is around 6'10 or close to it. For a guard around 6'1~6'2, a wingspan over 6'7 is already a big plus compared to others in the same position. If the rumor is true, it means that Rob will have the length of a 3-wing, which is a crazy advantage on D if utilized the right way.
@Leo-nc3yx
@Leo-nc3yx Месяц назад
I know you probably like Sarr or Reed better, but from my POV, no matter who we draft, we would probably only end up fixing 1 department of our hole. Sarr would strengthen our defense, shooting not so much, and we'll still need another for perimeter defense. Drafting Reed or Rob will help out the shooting and play-making department, defense not as much, I doubt Reed's defense can transfer to the NBA level when all his opponents are either bigger or faster... In terms of ceiling, I like Rob better than Dilly. I feel like defense is easier to fix if the problem is more so about attitude and effort, but you can't teach length and athleticism. Honestly, I have more faith in the coaching staff to fix a player's defense than their shooting 😅 I strongly believe Reed will face the same problem defensively as Tre Jones, on the other hand Rob's wingspan might be the turning point. I would not be mad if the Spurs drafted the likes of Sarr, Risacher,Rob,or Reed regardless.
@aspleen1102
@aspleen1102 Месяц назад
@@Leo-nc3yx I completely understand your POV. And I don't disagree globaly. But this: "Honestly, I have more faith in the coaching staff to fix a player's defense than their shooting" *Malaki* is the example coach can't fix his lack of D. He was bad on D last year, he's worst on D this season. *KJ* same thing he's as bad on D as he was last season... Also I have more faith in BBIQ from Reed transferring to the NBA than pure athleticism from other guys. D is 30% athleticism 70% IQ. That's why I'd prefer Reed over Rob even if both are fine to me.
@aspleen1102
@aspleen1102 Месяц назад
@@Leo-nc3yx quote:"I agree, based on some articles it stated that Rob has a 7' wingspan?" If you search on google it even say 7'5... It's a complete BS, last year his wingspan was near the same as his height. He's probably around 6'4 wingspan. But I can be wrong... Will see.

It all depends on the positions we are getting now,I’m convinced the Spurs will draft Dilly with a top 3 pick no matter what if they get it. Let’s see which team will draft Dilly before us potentially, Pistons nah,got 2 guards with great talent already, Blazers nah,got Scoot and Simons,Hornets probably not with Lamelo still being their star potential. I think that cleared 3 teams at least,our problem should be if the Raptors surpass our position or if Wizard draft a PG. The Raptors could use a backup combo,and the Wizards are basically in need of every thing. I don’t even want to think about the idea of Memphis,Utah ,or even Brooklyn surpassing us in the draft…

Dillongham is does not play defense and is a shoot first, undersized guard. I guess if they say he fits the Spurs, he would be another miss. Spurs like players that play defense first, i.e. DeJounte, DWhite, Sochan. Also, he would be a smaller version of Malaki Brenham
@Leo-nc3yx

And none of them (Besides DJ a backup all-star, if that counts)is an all-star offensively. They're elite "Role players" at best, none of them become a Jalen Brunson or T.Maxey. It's time for the Spurs to make a change if they want to develop a 25+ pts scorer, maybe try drafting a decent scorer then develop their defense, not the other way around...

I love Reed better personally, although I wouldn't hate drafting Rob. I just think the shooting and two-way potential from Sheppard is better for us around Wemby atm. Reed is a very very smart player, and Basketball IQ is the most important thing for a roster to win championships. Great vision, and great reads (on offense and defense). Some of his defensive metrics are ridiculous for a guard his age. Pretty complete player in this draft class. Plays the right way. Great effort on defense. 0 Ego. Team player. No arrogance, but great confidence. A coach's dream. Good upbringing (2 excellent Basketball players, seems like a stable family). Sneaky underrated Athleticism. The shot is one of the best we've ever seen from a guy his age. The form is absolute purity, it's so consistent. He shoots it from NBA-range all the time, off-the drible, catch and shoot, you name it. The three is at 52% and 4+ attempts on THE WHOLE SEASON FFS!!!! These numbers are from Wemby's home planet... And can play off-ball and on-ball, which is great for positionless ball, where you can have everyone, defending, shooting, and sharing the ball around a heliocentric Center like Wemby, ala Jokic. It can be very good to have a versatile combo-guard that can complete a starting line-up, be a 6th man, a floor general, or a shooter, depending on what we need at a given instant. He's 1 inch taller than Curry and has the same wingspan (for reference), so it's not like we have never seen guys make it in the NBA with these dimensions. Needs to work on his handles a bit to create more space at the next level, and finishing at the rim more often (espeically on his left hand), as well as improving the on-ball defense, but the Spurs are a great place for that. Defense is about effort and quick feet first and foremost, which he doesn't lack at all. But yeah, what a joy to watch, has a higher ceiling than what it seems imho, and seems to be the ultimate Spursey player.

You wrote all of this on a video about another player 😂 I like Reed too, I think he’d be a better fit for a team that already has a primary ball handler like the hornets. The Spurs need a primary ball handler and a three level scoring, perimeter threat. As a matter of FIT, Rob is a better fit.
@GuillaumeRx
@GuillaumeRx Месяц назад
@@dillamadukes21 Just copied and pasted my comment from something I had just written about Reed on the Spurs subreddit, so it didn't take much effort there ahah. The original discussion was between the 2 Kentucky guards so I thought it was fitting here, since we're talking about drafting Rob and "perhaps we don't need to look at anybody else". I thought the input would be informative for the ones who aren't following the draft too cloesely! I think with more usage, Reed can develop into a primary ball handler with a SG like Vassell, or feed of a solid distributor like Tre, at least short-term. I agree, optimally, we would have a PG that can do everything, be taller, shoot the 3, and defend, but it's rare, and won't happen in this draft class. With Wemby as a Jokic-like distributor, and the Spurs insisting on everyone being able to share the ball, we might not need that much of a very heavy on-ball PG. Murray with the Nuggets does not need to have 9 assists or 27 points per game with Jokic. But he shoots that 3 at a very efficient rate, so a good off-ball guard that can shoot and distribute around Wemby can work. Reed's advanced metrics are insane, and better than Rob on both ends of the floor. Although I love Rob's offensive game and athleticism, the defense is what worries me... If we end up with Rob though, I won't be mad, kid has solid bag, very good shot, seems lovely and Spursey as well, and shows great effort on the court, so he can develop a lot!
@Leo-nc3yx
@Leo-nc3yx Месяц назад
@@GuillaumeRx Reed's problem is with the size and athleticism, which basically restricted his ceiling. I know people are going to throw the Steph or Trae Young comparison...But come on, just take a look at their college stats, both Steph and Trae were already a big name in the NCAA while scoring 25 points on average. Reed is just a backup in college who scored 12 pts a game. Also,I could guarantee you that he's definitely closer to 6'2 with a 6'3 wingspan, it's NCAA stats bro they always bluffed. In reality, he would be more like Tyus Jones or Mark Price. The reason I like Rob more is because of his ceiling, if the source is correct Rob has much better length than Reed, while having a good shooting % as well, and play-making potential. Reed might be a better defender in college, but I can definitely see him struggling in NBA with a similar size to Tre Jones. If you want a more NBA-ready guard who could help us out immediately, Reed would be the better choice, but since we're a rebuilding team, I would like them to aim for higher potential.
