This Video covers the Can-Am Spyder RT and Can-Am Spyder F3 similarities and differences. The RT models have improved a lot over the years in function, performance, quality, and looks. I was excited to ride the newest 2022-2023 models and was glad I did.
If you’re looking at purchasing an RT or a F3 but aren’t real sure which one is for you, I hope this video will help. I wanted to cover what I thought of the RT compared to the F3 and what I think are good and bad points of both compared to each other.

I just purchased a demo 2021 rt limited. I had a new one ordered for months and months and keep being told it would be another month ever time I asked. Covid really screwed it up. I already had plans to ride to Sturgis with 12 of my Harley friends. Had to have something so I lucked out with the demo . It was even better than what I had ordered. Had to go 350 miles to another dealer but that was kool. I’m 72 years old. A master bike builder and somewhat of a name in the industry. The reason I went with this is strictly due to health issues. 2 replaced knees, and most recently fused joints in my left hand. Along with severe arthritis a clutch is out of the question. While I will agree the F3 is better looking what I do like is the ease of cleaning on the RT. Also the storage capacity I was an avid snowmobile rider when I lived in PA, now I’m in SC. Let me tell you riding the 120 miles of twists and turns through the Ozarks reminding me of the days riding snowmobiles in a Canada and upstate NY. Not only a blast but the Harley boys couldn’t shake me. I was right up there pushing them. AND feeling totally safe! We did a lot of side trips and I ended up putting on a total of 5400 miles. They were flawless. Not one problem ( jinx) . The full blown RT limited is worth every penny in my opinion. The ONLY drawback is the sound. Yeeeee it sounds like a sewing machine. The first thing I did was to replace the massive restrictive exhaust system. Pricey too. I used the RLS cat eliminator and Acropovic muffler. Not bad but it’s like driving a tuner , or an Indy car. Neat sound but so different from a v twin. And this guy had some narley sounding custom bikes. (13 of them were magazine featured bikes. One is even in a museum ( not bragging , just qualifying myself) bottom line you can’t go wrong with either. Long trips though you REALLY want the RT Limited. Quality doesn’t cost …..it pays. Thank you I hope this helps others as well. Your video was well done.

Thank you for the comment and support! The RT is extremwly comfortable and tons of storage like you said. Covid did mess up a lot of things but BRP had some extra issues as well which has caused a lot of delays so glad you were able to get one. I still get people asking if it can be used on freeways and can it keep up with motorcycles. They always seem surprised when i say yes. It does have a snowmobile feel somewhat but is a lot of fun to ride. Thanks again for sharing! Stay safe and ride happy!

Good comparison video! Yes, that frunk on the RT holds a lot more. For comfort and touring though, the F3 Limited is just fine in my humble opinion...I've ridden mine in 42 states this year and did a 1000 mile iron butt too. I like the looks of the F3 better....and of course, the seating position. 💚

I was surprised to find out that the saddlebags on the RT holds more than the F3T and F3 limited (pretty much double) as i had thought they were the same. I knew the Frunk was bigger. I agree with you about the seat position. I like the F3 better.

Great video. I am a custom bike builder ( V Twins) and nothing beats the sound a Harley makes. However at 73 years old and a lot of health issues I was pretty much forced into the Spyder RT if I wanted to continue riding. I would agree with all your points. It’s a tough decision because sometimes one is better than the other. I had a 2022 on order for over 6 months and was worried I wouldn’t have in time for the big Sturgis trip with 10 of my friends. I started searching and found a 2021 demo . The bike is a RT Limited so it ended up being perfect for the 4500 mile trip we made. The bike performed flawlessly. I’ve added a few goodies, one being the rear panel to use instead of the trunk. For around town it’s just plain sportier and you still have ample storage . The biggest problem I have is the sound. The thing sounded like a sewing machine. So I put on a $1750.00 exhaust system right away( Acropovic muffler and RLS cat . Now it sounds like a sewing machine on steroids. I knew from the git go I wouldn’t be happy with the sound. However that is the ONLY thing I don’t care for. While the RT Limited is pricey keep in mind all you get and will enjoy everyday after the sting of the price tag fades away. In my case this is likely to be the last new bike I will purchase.

Huge difference between the sounds of a harley and it doesnt really have a growl when riding but like you noticed, cant beat the comfort. The sound that bothers me the most is that shifting "clunk". My Spyder F3 is comfortable but there is a big difference in the f3 compared to the RT comfort. For touring the RT limited is the way to go like you said. Thanks for the comment and support and enjoy the many miles you are about to ride!

I have a 2019 RTL that I installed a Baha Ron swaybar and a Pedal Box. The stability in the wind was greatly upped and the Pedal Box gives me access to a higher throttle range at the beginning. I've hit some very hazardous weather on this machine and it got me through it no problem. I ride the twisties every day the roads are ice-free and do it Holligan style. These machines are capable of so much more than most riders ever realize. Typically, I'll ride between 100 and 150 miles each day and one of my goals is to never use the same technique twice to negotiate the turns, curves, and twisties. Nothing replaces the two-wheel experience but staying mindful that I'm driving a three-wheel Go Kart with motorcycle controls keeps me very happy.
@MOABMAN
@MOABMAN Год назад
Thank you for commenting and support! The Spyder lineup is capable of a lot like you said. I fully agree too that not many motorcyclists realize this as well and knock them just because they have an extra wheel. Even without the sway bar mine doesn't care about the wind and weather. After riding several RTs I think the Pedal Commander is a huge help throttle wise, not so much on the F3's in comparison. Now that I am use to riding it, I love pushing it in the twisties and fighting the Nanny when I forget it is there. When I rode the RT this time, I also tried to look at it from a passengers view and I have to say WOW what a good job they did on comfort. There wasn't a lot I could say negative wise. I hate having someone else in control especially on a motorcycle but man the "back seat" was comfy. Thanks again for support and hope you are enjoying the channel!
@chuckkelley5894
@chuckkelley5894 Год назад
@@MOABMAN I find that many or maybe most Spyder riders never learn the capacities of their own machine. They either give up or stay stuck at the lower levels of riding. I've been riding on two wheels for over 60 years, 55 years with a proper operator's license. The RTs, as you know, sit higher and if they have heated seats they are a bit more rounded on top rather than concave, you ride on top of them. The F3s drop down, and you ride in or inside of them, which is a huge difference and reduces the adjustment time considerably. So, it took me 5-6000 miles to begin to get comfortable riding, I ride almost every day without exception. Then it took a few thousand additional miles before I finally became one with the machine. I watch hours of videos every day looking for tips on how to best operate these machines. I watched the motorcycle coach's channels, too. Looking for any tip and they were plentiful. I also saw where many otherwise good riders had or were giving up but I felt it was worth sticking it out. I'm so glad I did! I encourage all Spyder/Ryker operators to keep pushing themselves and their machines sensibly and constantly. The daily joy that'll be faithfully returned is worth every second of it. As for the passenger's accommodations on the RTL, they are fantastic! I added armrests to mine so that my wife would feel even more secure. We've hit some horrible weather and she was basically unaffected in comparison to me. Thanks for having this channel and allowing us to share our thoughts and experiences with other enthusiasts.

Probably worth mentioning, the f3 models have a totally adjustable riding position accommodating all sizes of people. Five different bar types and 5 different peg positions. Also for me, I found the tall windscreen to cause bad buffetting at 6'2". The lower screen ideal with with great protection below the neck.

I do mention the U fit in other videos but did not in this one. To my understanding the RT cant have the brake (unless that recently changed on 2022 and up) adjusted so I didnt want that to confuse or mislead anyone. The handlebars can be changed though. I was hoping to have a dedicated video out with my new series "Learning the basics" that talks about the Ufit system and how to adjust things. One of many videos planned this year to do. I appreciate the storage capacities of the various models. However, as someone who is still new to Can-Am in general, I cannot spot the differences in the models just by looking at a 3 second side shot of each one. So, since there was no designation as to which model was which, it was wasted time for me and provided no info as to which would be the better choice.

Thank you for that and appreciate the comment. This will be a long response but hope it helps you and others in decision making. I always tell everyone, if you can afford to go "Limited" or "Special Addition" on anything, do it. I dont say that to help them spend their money, but because of the value that the comment and purchase will bring them. Limited or special edition models usually have things that cant be added, or cost more if you bought them aftermarket. The Spyder is no exception. The Limiteds that i have ridden have so many extra features and more storage. They are also exceptional on passenger comfort compared to other models. At first glance you are more likely to say, I cant believe it costs that much for this and I'll pass. About a year later you find yourself saying, i wish i had added that or got this with it. I do it to myself all the time. When you consider resale value, comfort, and extra features that the limited models have you may find that the cost was worth it 5 years down the road. I hope to one day be able to get another Spyder and if I do it will be the RT Limited. Not only for me but for the wife riding as well. Thanks again for the support and do go out and test ride both models. Dealers are starting to get some in now and Covid restrictions have eased up, so i have noticed dealers starting to allow test rides more.

Great comparison as expected! I agree on pretty much all the items mentioned. The RT is very comfortable and great as a cruiser, especially for longer rides. Having the storage is a big help as well - more than you realize it! Purple On 3 mentioned that the F3 Limited has almost all the same features as the RT and works out just as well - differences being the RT has the power windshield, a full size running board, and heated seats - none of which the Limited has. But the ride is very equivalent to the RT - I can attest due to my wife getting the Limited 😃😃 Like you, I prefer the sporty look and feel of the F3, so I'm keeping mine! My wife just has to carry the extras 😄😁 or I carry a backpack if I need more stuff.

The storage is a huge plus over the standard F3 for sure. My wife loved the seat back that is on the limited models. The RT made me feel like an old man when i rode it. Not sure if I am ready for that yet!! I still have a couple years of "sporty" left in me! The biggest improvement of RT was that the seat for the passenger is higher, wider, and longer that the F3 limited's passenger seat. I was also surprised that the Saddlebags on the RT are double the amount of storage over the F3. They look like the same size almost. I am like you though, give me a backpack and i'm good!

I like the RT Spyder Limited a lot. However there are some fundamental flaws 😮‍💨with the RT (to be different is not always better!!): 1😮‍💨) in order to fill up your Tank you have to lift the Seat, I am Handicapped and would need to open the wheelchair, then get into the wheelchair, roll to the pump (if even accessible), pay, fill up and get back onto the seat and put the wheelchair back onto a separated carrier. 2😮‍💨) I have seen many complaints as well, NO HANDBRAKE!!! No Feeling in my legs and a Handbrake is best, just like my previous 3 Motorbikes 3😮‍💨) Fixed Saddlebags, I had two BMW's with their Saddlebags and Top Case, never an issue to carry them into a Hotel room, etc.; leave US the choice if we want to carry the saddlebags or only the inside bags. For me the overriding factor would be when the saddlebags are not needed you can keep them at Home! Less weight, better fuel economy (not much but every bit counts). For me, as a Handicap, the saddlebags (so are the Floorboards) are in my way to get the wheelchair closer to the Machine!! No Saddlebag would also allow me to put a wheelchair fixture at their place. Conclusion: All 3 highlighted flaws are deviations from Motorcycles and what Can Am wanted to achieve "A Three Wheel Motorcycle" and should have been highlighted in the Video!

Thank you for the comment and you have some great points. I will reference the number to help in the response. I am not contradicting what you say in the response also when replying but do want to let you know of the options available. I did not highlight the way that Can Am has helped or that their are aftermarket parts to help with the items you pointed out. I dont have a lot of knowledge about what all is out their and try to discuss what i know so i do not ever mislead anyone with wrong information. So i do apologize that I dont cover this as pointed out, but I am always glad to help with any comments. 1. Yes the RT is an issue for this where the F3 would be better in this situation. I never thought of this when i ride the RT but see very clearly your point. 2. They can change this on the handlebars. For needs like this your dealer may be able to have a custom setup from factory for situations like this. I know that Can-Am has done custom options and supported wounded soldiers. Also there are a lot of aftermarket part companies and some have these options. 3. If a person wants the permanent/fixed option but wants a way to carry the items inside with you like luggage, there are inserts and bags that are custom fit so all you have to do is open the hard cased saddle bags and remove the soft case insert and use it as luggage. This also is an exrtra layer of waterproof protection when used as just an insert in the hard fixed cases. There are several wonderful videos that talk about handicap changes made for what they have done for their needs here are some links to their channels: youtube.com/@jaspertouw8103?si=7C9RhSXsPFBnx0_A youtube.com/@neemafastcat?si=ylNEBpjI59aNe6KR These are just two but you can type "handicapped can am spyder" in the search bar and you will find many videos with helpful information. Spyder/ryker/slingshot R are niche vehicles that offer a very different riding/driving experience, compared to cars and m/cycles. We are missing out on these fun vehicles in the UK. We need dealerships in the UK, problem is they don't come cheap!
@MOABMAN
@MOABMAN Год назад
Thank you for the comment! I have to say that i believe the Spyder is not really a niche vehicle. At first i kinda thought that because they were released around the same time of the slingshot which is more of a toy. The Spyders are a motorcycle and compare very well and offer more benefits than a standard 2 wheel motorcycle. The RT models are competition for the Goldwings and bigger Harleys that are most often considered touring bikes. After years of riding 2 wheels i have to say i dont care to ride them again and prefer the Spyder over them. When first looking to own a motorcycle again, i wanted a good one. Looking at the prices of a high end sports bike, like the Suzuki Hayabusa which is 19k+ or a Triumph that ranges around 25k and for RT comparison the goldwing is roughly 30k. The Spyder F3 really didnt seem that high priced anymore and the benefits of storage, safety, etc. actually made it a cheaper or more sensible purcase to me. Other than being able to lean like on a 2 wheel, the ride is pretty much exactly the same as a 2 wheel motorcycle to me. They are a lot of fun and hopefully UK will allow some in soon. Hope you enjoyed the video and channel and thanks for watching.

That is about what they are here. This is my opinion only, if your looking at used........ don't buy anything older than I believe 2015. The 1330 engines are what are current. The older engines are harder to find parts and have some issues that are not easy to fix. The 2020+ models have a lot of the older bugs worked out and corrected. It is really not worth buying anything older than 2015 models unless you just need a "spare parts" bike. Most of the older models I have seen have been messed with by someone trying to upgrade them and didn't know what they were doing. There is one color that really looks good on the RT to me and that is the Red/Maroon looking color. I would even like to see it on the F3 plain models. Pictures dont do it justice as it just looks like a flat color but in the sun it pops. Thanks for the comment and hope you enjoyed the video! Have a Merry Christmas and stay safe!

@@MOABMAN thanks for mentioning that for the F3. Im kind of torn in between the two. I really love how the F3 looks but I have a lower back injury and comfortable rides are a must for me.

@@theonlyEYEBROWKING I want to share my opinion with you and hope it helps. When you mentioned lower back pain is what made me want to respond and hope you dont take it the wrong way. I would set looks aside as a decision maker. With injuries and back problems i would not make that a priority. What you want to think about is how long will it help me ride and what comfort will help my injuries better. For those reasons (if you can afford it) i would pick the RT over the F3. The ride is a difference and you get a whole lot more support on the RT. Longer trips will be more enjoyable and you willl not look back on regretting that one looks better than the other. What good are looks if you cant ride much. Hope this helps and i say it with the hopes that it makes you choose the better option for you. Do test ride them both though and see which is more for you. That would be the best way to start.

Thank you for watching and comment! When i first started looking for mine (almost 5 years ago) i thought so at first. Then i started looking at other motorcycles like goldwings, higher end sport bikes, etc. and realized they were not that overpriced. You are getting a lot for what you pay. It is one of the more expensive motorcycles but not the most overpriced. I found more Harleys Ridiculously Overpriced than anything else in comparison, and they really didnt offer much new in improvements or features since the last 20 years models. So really for what you get in options they are average to underpriced, but that is in my opinion. Just to help compare so you know: -2023 Harley CVO Road Glide $51,999 -2023 Harley Road Glide base model $21,999 -2023 Harley Softail Standard (cruiser) $14,399 -2023 Harley Heritage Classic $21,199 -2023 Harley Trike Lowest model $29,999 -2023 Honda Gold Wing Automatic DCT Base price starts $25,600 - 2023 BMW R 1250 RT sport $28,160 - 2023 Triumph Rocket 3 GT Phantom $24,700 These are motorcycles I would ride if I was looking to buy and none really have the storage and comfort of the RT's that I have rode. Im not sure where everyone is looking when they say overpriced because I do hear that a lot, but everytime I go looking I see very comparable for the most part.

Very OVERPRICED RTs and RT limiteds..WITH NO GPS NAVIGATION BUILT IT....

The navigation is a surprise that they dont have but really everyone uses phone anymore. If you compare it to a harley or goldwing it starts becoming underpriced for what it has to offer. More storage,better safety features and comfort for both rider and passenger.
