That whole Spyderco line of budget knives has been a big hit for the Colorado company. I considered purchasing the Ambitious but thought it might have been a bit to small for my hands, so I got the larger Persistence. After 12 years or so, I still carry this knife, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent work knife.
Thank you and thanks for watching. I figure one can get specs off of a sales or manufacturers site. I want to bring more personal experience to my videos.
My first Spyderco was a Co-Pilot back in the mid '90s. But I abused and broke it. For a long time, I favor fixed blades and the only folders I bought were entirely multi tools. It's just me... In 2000, I skimmed through Spyderco's catalog and fell in love with the Waterway and Yojimbo 2. And about two months ago I bought the satin Yojimbo 2 first and then the Waterway. I'm absolutely in love with both blades. Being a fixed blade buff, the Waterway is my "precious". I love everything about the knife! But the Yojimbo 2 is incredibly stunning! My next Spyderco folder will be the Salt 2 Wharncliffe FRN in LC200N just because I love my Waterway! 😁 I've just subscribed. BTW, that's a beautiful little Spydie you've got there, bud! Cheers...
Thank you for watching and subscribing! My daily carry is now a Delica 4 and I just got a Bow River as well. That Delica has been with me for a while and I love it!
I Know the feeling, also started with the ambitious back followed by the sage and persistence folders. Tried several vendors and eventually settled back onto Spyderco. my collection is mainly Spyderco at 9 with delicas, sage lw, Manix 2, endelas and para 3’s all in K390, M4, 20CV, S30V, S45VN and Cruwear 👍Such great products with a great variety of steels 😊
My dear friend, it's very nice of you to present an AMBITIOUS to your son. But unfortunately he's lost it. Now, you're gonna give him another one ...... What a nice dad. Hopefully he takes good care of it this time. As for me losing a knife is a super heartache.
While Spyderco knives are unconventional, their designs are amazingly functional. I have grown to admire the aesthetics as well. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just subbed! That was one of the first spyderco knives I bought as well. And your so right about what Buck does with their 420 HC. I collect bucks and there heat treat is unbelievable! Great content!
Thank you, and thanks for watching! Do you like the lightweight version? I love the G10 version but also have a Delica 4 with the FRN scales and like it fine too so I couldn't decide which I like better.
@@workbenchknifeandtool I love the lightweight version. I like all the lw better than the g10 on all spydercos, but everyone could be different on that one. The lightweight version it's really not much much lighter I just love the texture. In my opinion, nobody can compete with spyderco on the frn.
I bought the slightly larger brethren, the Persistence some years back and that knife has been a workhorse as an EDC. Like you sais, it keeps a nice edge and a few swipes on a honing steel keeps it working sharp. I frankly don't understand the obsession with sharper and then sharper steels. People buy into that and later on are unable to sharpen these expensive puppies. I guess, to each his own, eh?
I like a steel that keeps it's edge reasonably well but is easy to sharpen. In stainless, I am still a big fan of the old 440C. I'm not a big fan of some of the super steals. They are just to hard to sharpen.
I just received a Spyderco rock jumper! I'm super happy with it. My first Spyderco, I've been carrying a BM bailout for about a year now 🤷🏼♂️ these two are going to be competing for pocket space every day
I got my first spyderco back in 1998-1999 some time I think it was.. Anyways it was the Native model and I still got it and it works as brand new. Made in Gin-1 steel it says on it. So yeah Gin-1 steel and FRN handle and it was only $40 when I convert it to sek since I live in Sweden. With time and inflation I dont know how that compares to the modern Native 5's to be honest, all I know is that with all the extra tax we got over here in the EU its around $180-200 in todays market. Anyway's I feel like I started with a back then "budget" spyderco in the Native that later turned out to be one of the top selling models. So that probably helped to boost the price aswell in todays market.
Ha ! Well atleast you've "been bit by the Spyder" as the saying goes. I love Tenacious & Ambitious.. however the 8Cr13MoV blade steel is absolutely garbage. It's a shame to waste such a great knife design with crappy steel. Luckily they finally came out with some s35vn versions, so you can do some blade swaps. 8Cr13MoV really is one of the worst steels I have used.
I got the persistence back in 2015. It has terrible construction. The blade doesn't line up in the middle and the action is not smooth. The liners had some rust within a couple of years.
Spyderco sells knives which are inferior in built quality, have crooked grinds and uneven edge bevels, these knives are triple the price they are worth. This little one seems not as bad in its construction, but I wouldn’t recommend you try any of the other models
Respectfully, I have to disagree. I have owned several Spyderco knives and none of them have had the issues you describe. My most recent video is about a Spyderco Delica 4 I have been carrying for several years and it exhibits excellent build quality. If you have a Spyderco knife with these issues, I would contact Spyderco customer support to let them know. Thank you for watching and commenting. Even though we may not have had the same experiences with Spyderco knives I still love hearing from you.
Those cheap Chinese Spyderco knives are the absolute worst of what that company has to offer. Also there is NO value , there are much much better Chinese knives you can get with upgraded materials for $50. In fact there are far better $30 Chinese knives than that $50 Spyderco.
