I have plenty of issues with CF/g10 laminate, but the carbon fiber peeling off isn't one. G10 is already a bunch of layers of fiberglass epoxied together, this just has the top layer as carbon fiber. Shouldn't be any more prone to delamination. It does look cheap as hell though. I'd rather they just use plain g10 and save some money or charge more for solid carbon fiber. This scale material keeps me from buying knives. The watu and the smock most recently.
I'm ok with the swedge. I'm not very ok with the un-swedged part near the tip. It's like having some nice aftermarket rims with a huge weight on the lip.
Come to think of it, I kinda do need a knife fighting blade. Some of the old ladies I run into while walking the dog are kinda scary. On an unrelated subject, its nice to hear someone pronounce Shaman correctly. Shabazz and Metal Complex both butcher the pronunciation in different ways.
I like it. I prefer it over the Yojimbo, which would be the best comparison. But, I do not like the s30v and definitely don't like that price. With a higher end steel maybe. I would like to see it in XHP or LC200N.
The carry profiles don’t bother me. I don’t want my stuff scratched by knife and don’t want my knives scratched either. So nothing but a knife goes in my right pocket. I must be an anomaly.
I’m trying not to like it but it’s growing on me. I just don’t need to buy another knife right now. I do love the compression locks and for the money I’d probably get the Yojimbo. I’d really like a Yojumbo if they bring it out.
It looses on pictures. Digging the wharncliffe concept, this is a bit more utalizable than the weired looking Yojimbo (I love that Janich thing). Nobody compares it to a Hinderer XM 18 Wharncliffe or the fixed FXM.
They say its designed for self defense. Its got a weak compression lock and a big price for a pretty small knife. 100 bucks for a cold steel recon 1, they come in 4 styles take your pick. Amazing knife, i can tell its much better than this knife, and at half the price its a bigger blade and its s35v. Anyone considering this that doesnt have a recon 1, just forget this and buy the recon, seriously! The ergos on the recon 1 are close to perfect as well...
I agree. Most are ugly, but they are well made and after buying a few I am a fan. I used to think Benchmade were nicer looking, but my Spyderco are better are actually cutting. I think its like a ok look wife who loves to cook, clean and giving BJ's vs a great looking wife who constantly bitches, complains and refuse to do any household chores. Take your pick. I know mine.
I think they’re pretty. The pocket jewelry knives such as WE I don’t for some reason. I don’t necessarily find this one great looking but I just ordered the thing! 😝
It looked super weird in the catalog, but the brief glimpses on video that I've seen since then turned that around pretty quick. Then again, I also like the looks of Watu, so whatever i'm weird lol
Great vid picked this one up when I picked up the Yojumbo wasn't going too glad I did but the Canis is way better in hand than the Yojumbo and it's like you say in person you can appreciate it more and using it is great, it's a slicer I think this one is going to go under the radar but for those who pick it up I dont think they will be disappointed by it good edc knife.
Looks awfully like a Yojimbo to me just with a few tweaks to pretend it’s his design it should have Michael Janich’s name on it. I do like it though. Wish Spyderco would put Emerson Waves on more knives.
I like it, I just wish there was a G10 or fiberglass scale version. A VG-10 blade would be nice, too, to keep the cost down. I think I'd just get the Wharncliffe Delica.
Is it just my impression or the edge is not completely straight? It looks like the tip is slightly bent downward, like a hawkbill blade. I wish to see more G10 and less CF: better grip, lower price. Nice review, just subscribed to your channel.
Id rather get any cold steel or benchmade, spyderco is way overpriced for what it is...and most of these new designs do not impress me at all, along with grinds like this.
I think this thing looks awesome. I also just got done talking about how fugly the Protech Malibu is so I guess I’ve been drinking a different Kool-Aid.
Am I the only one that doesn't like the holes for tip down carry for me it just creates a straight shot for pocket lint and debris to get to the pivot?
Darth Slicey... how are you doing my friend? Hope all's well. Great vid! It's interesting how hard to swallow blades can change with a bit of carry time. So many blades I can think of and in the end I still have most of them hahaha. Like a fixed marriage lol, but I guess it's a matter of giving it a chance and they really grow on you, most of them anyway. Take care and keep safe you and the fam.
Could be an optical illusion forced by the camera, but the blade edge looks like it’s ever-so-slightly recurved. Either way, I’ll wait for the Yojumbo but I sure do appreciate the review!
Almost bought one but I couldn't get past the sticker knowing I have 2 ZTs with real carbon fiber, made in the US and cost less. I knew I'd feel like I got scammed. And yes, I know all the hype with Taiwan made Spyderco for someone wanting to imply there's a difference.
