Joe reviews the Spyderco Chaparral in grey FRN after several years of carry. The thin blade profile, compact design, and ergonomic handle make this ambidextrous back lock knife a no-brainer for EDC. The FRN version can still be acquired at Knifecenter’s website as of July 2021! The upscale models would also make great gifts! You really can’t go wrong with this knife if you find a version you enjoy!

As you updated in text, CTS-XHP is stainless, and it is a very underrated steel, IMO. I live in humid Florida and have never had any issues with my chappy.

Yeah, Eric Glesser himself referred to XHP as a stainless D2 that has been powderized.

Very nice video! I'd love to see a long term review for your Native 5 salt, I like the dye fade!

I like the Lynch clip for this, didn’t even know that was an option so thank you.

I have 2 dragonfly (2s) and took them apart to swap the blades, and it worked without a problem. The “screws/rivets” are keyed, and shouldn’t be free spinning

You are correct. I misremembered the disassembly of the Dragonfly 2. I believe I was remembering that it was warranty voiding to disassemble (back when I got it) and not that it was impossible. Thanks!

Out of curiosity, did you run into the dreaded “Chaparral thumb” in the course of disengaging the back lock? I’ve heard that this one can be a bit stiff-to say the least. PS Thank you for including metric in all your measurements!

My particular Chaparral is easy to disengage the back lock. My Native Chief on the other hand is a tough one! I gotta have metric so my fellow Americans can see what we’re missing! 😂 I’m glad you like it

Man I really love this little knife, it is so slicy, I feel like many people who want to buy a VG-10 Delica in 2023 would be better getting this (or a Para 3 LW) instead. My only problem with this knife is the fact that almost instantly started getting circular scratches on each side of the base of the blade from opening/closing... Not exactly sure why, maybe it's just the FRN scales rubbing ? Certainly not a "fidget, safe queen knife", once you start using, it will get some marks from this... Not a huge deal though, but it looks like your knife isn't scratched like mine... I actually love the FRN scales because the added grip is a good idea to such a small knife, and in my opinion it doesn't look bad, actually the grey looks pretty classy, it's a classy (and non-threatening) knife overall. My model came from the factory with a pretty good even 15-17° angle edge.

Agreed, this is a Delica killer! Have you taken it apart for cleaning? Maybe there’s some grit in your pivot area… the FRN handles and bronze washers should not be hard enough to scratch your steel so I’m thinking metal dust from the factory or something

I’ve owned a bunch of the non-FRN chaparrals and some rub on the liners and some don’t. I covet the ones that don’t rub!

@@inkiron3907 does the Casey Lynch clip make the knife not tear up your pocket as much when you take it out of your pocket? I love this knife but it is starting to tear up my jeans when I take it in and out of the pocket. I am not sure if a new clip will help. Thoughts?
