I hate the new cutters. I had old style cutters that I've put on my Arc. Old style can strip THHN wire at the "hard wire" spot with minimal problems. As an industrial maint. tech I do it all the time. In fact, I've never used a Leatherman wire stripper for stripping wires. I use an actual wire stripper or in a pinch, the hard wire spot on old style cuters. Also, when cutting stranded or smaller gauge wire, the gap in the new style cutters results in an incomplete cut. Can I take the extra time to carefully place the wire in the "soft wire" spot? Yes, but it's kind of a pain. Still wondering why Leatherman redesigned them. Just my 2 cents. Love the channel. New sub
Far too narrow. I have the mini which will go back to Amazon. They give you the loops for gear but the narrow design means it won’t close when you load it up. Stupid design on these pouches.
I thought about replacing my older model wave without replaceable cutters but I’ll just keep them until they die and take comfort in the fact I paid $70 for them new 😁 Cedric and Ada’s channel has an interesting take where he feels leatherman has used the replaceable cutters as a way to put warranty repair responsibility on the customer
To make the assisted opening work, you can loose the screws a little, lubricate and leave the assisted tools half-open for an hour or two. Not too much time or you will have to disassemble and reform the lock springs. This steel can bend in short time. First try screws and tool oil.
Tried this out, cut wire about the size of coathanger wire.. broke my cutters 😂 So to finish I tried bending it off with the thicker part of the pliers. Bent the pliers 😂😂 So much for this being the "toughest plier head yet"
Thanks... Now I want one peso coin 😅 As for tool it self it remind me No name brand from Amazon that I keep in my car for God know reason as to fix anything in modern car I would need computer not pliers... But still I don't want to keep there my better multitools that I carry with me so I just throw them there. But they are not that bad as one time I used them to dismantle bike and pliers didn't break and screwdriver worked perfectly fine.
Snap-on does not honor itself by offering a low-end multi-tool made in China, probably by GANZO. It also put its logo on a GERBER MP600 painted red ... Either a tool manufacturer designs and manufactures its own multi-tool, or it avoids making a fool of itself.
But most of bigger companies don't make own tools just order them to be made by one of bigger Chinese manufacturers. They design them and in higher end models use own specific component/materials but everything mid and low end is from the same company that make all other brands... Just go check any comparisons and disassembly of random tools from brands like makita einhell devalt snapon robi or Stanley. You can immediately notice that most of them share the same base or components or even design.
@@paranoiia8 No. Low-end multi-tools made and designed in China. Just marked with a brand name. This can still be understood from a DIY company but from a high-end toolmaker like SNAP-ON, certainly not, it's obviously a shame at the price they resell scrap metal bought cheaply in China. And as a gift for their good customers, it's grotesque :) As for the origin of hand tools and power tools, that's another problem, no less a source of disappointment. Hazet, Facom, Wera, Stahlwille, Knipex, Gedore, etc. have never offered Ganzo multi-tools or others stamped with their brand. When I bought my BMW, I received a Victorinox "BMW" SwissTool Plus, it's much more respectful and rewarding :)
@@paranoiia8 No, I previously mentioned high-end brands that do not manufacture most of their tools in China. You are repeating yourself and I answered you. The fact remains that it is shameful for SNAP-ON to put its brand name on a crappy multi-tool that it did not even design. SNAP-ON could have collaborated with LEATHERMAN to thank its "good customers". BMW/VICTORINOX, can you read? So SNAP-ON/GERBER, at the limit even if GERBER had its MP600 manufactured in China, which is not the case with LEATHERMAN.
I would prefer all the tools to lock as well, but couldnt you just close the handle of the pliers after you deploy the tool you need to keep it from closing on you? sort of like on the Leatherman Rebar?
Knipex do 2 versions of pliers. One with that gap, one without. It's useful when cutting that it cuts without the end flying away. I had to cut 400 decking screws and was glad I could cut then pull off the end rather than having 400 screw heads to find so they didn't end up in the kids feet.
SOG tools are designed in USA but made in China. Most of SOG models are quite more expensive in AliExpress than in SOG oficial store. I ordered a few of them because SOG doesn't want to ship to Europe. My conclusion is that they are exactly the same product.
On another video the blade broke unexpectedly when cutting coat hanger wire right where that gap is. The important thing to note there is - even if this is meant to be a stripper as some have said - it is easy to accidentally break the blade. I have cheap wire cutters that have a similar gap. They've lasted 40 years, even abused cutting HT fencing wire, and they're still intact.
To begin with, a coat hanger isn’t the kind of wire you cut with wire cutters. Electrical wire is made of soft metals: copper or aluminum. If you’re cutting anything else with these, of course it will damage it, even more so, burying it so close to the fulcrum. Never cut wire that close to the fulcrum. The cleanest cut is the middle of the blades. And if you’re cutting steel with a tool used for copper or aluminum, the warranty should be voided.
Leatherman advertises these as hard wire cutters. The new cutter design doesn’t perform for the average person, but that’s who they market to. It doesn’t make sense to me. Tim Leatherman used to cut 16 penny nails in his demos. If you want to prove me wrong SHOW ME YOUR EVIDENCE. Don’t just yap.
Not worth the price increase in my opinion I currently have the P4 happy with that so I will stick with it thanks for the video helped me to hold off buying the new one
Working doing HVAC that error is a very big error when you're cutting flex. Having to make that final cut on the wire. You don't want to have to move it up a little bit when you're sitting in Rafters doing commercial. My super tool 300 does the same thing
Saw you released three videos today after a hiatus. Welcome back! I was wondering if you’ve been using the Arc as much as you used to use your surge, if you could speak to the edge retention and coating on the blade? Is the magnacut blade worth it in your opinion?
Hmm; looks like the long tools and pocket clip are in a position that would be most comfortable left-handed. They'll need the pliers to be reversible and the pocket clip to be movable if that design is going to take off.
Trying to understand purpose of this. I would not carry a thrower as primary edc light and if carrying a backup thrower in car or backpack, why not carry one with battery that will run for several hours? I dunno, just not a fan of these short run lights.
Huh? This does run for several hours. On moonlight <50 days! Low 60 hours, medium 10 hours, high 1.5 hours, turbo 2.5 min with step down to 300 lumens for 1.5 hours. Doesnt get much better than that considering how small the battery is.
With my older Black&Silver Surge ive cut 2mm screws (bicycle pedal pins) with some effort but with Zero marks! I also cut 3mm stranded wires, part of a much thicker strand of the crane i work with (ofc, scrap cable who just was replaced). With my new Black Surge i could not cut even 2.5 mm hardwire, job that SquirtPS4 did with no problem! I ordered cutters for Mut EOD, without the notch, for electric cables, modified them a little and replace the faulty ones. After all, Surge have a wire cutter behind tbe pliers head. Im using these flat cutters mostly for zipties.
Nice light. I used to actually put my belt through a better quality carabineer for my keys and that stopped then from hanging down and moving a lot. That might work for this light
