Next after a standard Victorinox Spartan, that always sleeps in my jacket and has done so for the latest 45+ years, the Delica 4 is my most carried piece, by far. Tough as nails despite the FRN handle, due to the steel skeleton. Just soldiers on through the years. Bronze washers make it not gum up as ball bearings tend to do after a while. Sal Glesser really hit the mark with this design.

My first Spyderco was a endura generation 1 serrated. no liners molded pocket clip I still own it... My next Spyderco was a delica Gen 2. Serrated. metal spring clip but no liners I still own that one use it for work.... My next Spyderco was the.. delica 4 .. but it's a saber ground & serrated so I will be ordering a delica 4 in a plain edge.. flat grind... I also own A Spyderco salt and Pacific salt.. which is similar to the delica in endura 2 no liners.. but H1 rust free steel for diving and snorkeling.... I have a ladybug in H1 steel... And a old remote access Spyderco in aus 8 serrated that I use for work.. that thing never gets dull ..

Excellent review as usual buddy! I totally agree with you on the texture thing. The FRCP is just harder overall, whereas the FRN has just a little bit of give in it. Despite the same aggressive texturing, it really never feels uncomfortable even when you bear down on it.

I prefer G10 over FRN or FRCP but given a choice of the 2 latter...it's FRN all the way!

I have close to 20 folding knives most are sadly the cheap ones but with that said a cheap one is better then none i was looking at Sog but dang if they are high on there prices. I do like spyder knife. As always be safe have a blessed day

SOG has a few blades that are worth a look but you have to dig through so much poop to find them that I wrote the brand off years ago. Pretty much the same with Gerber as well.

The video went wrong with "...loaned me a Delica 4." As a knife reviewer, the Delica is a knife you should absolutely own at least one of. Good work, but please be sure to buy at least one. ;)

This is one of those knives that Spyderco fans will buy. I have large hands and cannot get all four fingers on the grip because of the lack of a forward finger choil. IMO opinion purely, there are better knives out there in this size range (without being a pocket hog), with better blade steel for less than $65. I'm not knocking Spyderco's quality or loveability, but these days there are a lot of excellent knives out there in the $50 range that are just as good or better... unless you're a Spyderco fan lol.

I agree Bubba...the budget knife market is getting much better! Not sure if it will have any effect on pricing from companies like Spyderco or Benchmade. My gut tells me it wont.

@@BigRedEDC and Bubba, first let me say that I don't have any personal experience with VG10, but I've seen enough cut tests data to have a pretty good idea where it stacks up against today's other current steel offerings. I think that steel choice is getting a little long in the tooth, especially when paired with a polymer handle this day and age. I like Spyderco quite a bit, but I don't really understand how the Delica (or Endura) remain top sellers. I had an early model Endura that I ended up selling a while back. I loved that knife for a lot of years, and I'd love to pick up another one at some point. But, I honestly have no interest in that steel for that price. I think the standard Delica is just living on its good reputation from years ago at this point.

Frn definitely has a softer feel over the frcp on the Manix. Still love my Manix more though.

I can't remember the exact one I had but over time, somehow I killed s Spyderco. I used it in sar and took it everywhere. Lol I may go down in history

I think Blue was a little influenced by the color. It is a good knife don't think it is a 9 though. 8.5 because it is a good solid knife that does what it is supposed to do. I am interested in a Manix. Have the Manix2XL big knife so want to try the Manix. Would eventually if I can find a deal love to try a Military, Police, and Chef. Enjoyed the review really glad it wasn't a Dollica.

The handle material can take some getting used to and some just dont care for it. I prefer G10 myself!

Fab knife, no doubt a Spyderco classic. Me, I bought the Ganzo Firebird copy, with a better finger choil, at a fraction of the price, and I'm quite happy with it, other than the fact that it is an improved rip-off. Can I even sleep at night carrying that guilt? Yes.

I have over 30 folding knives, 5 of which are Spyderco's, but none of them are Delica;s or Endura's. I really should get one. I'm sure they are a great knife, but the FRN just don't do it for me for some reason. There are other options, with around the same blade length, but in G10 or TI scales. Domino, Chaparral, Native 5, and more. I just don't get why Spyderco doesn't offer both options, other than on the occasional Sprint run or dealer exclusives, like they do with the Native 5, and Manix 2. I would pay extra for the G10, as long s they didn't go crazy on the price.

Seems like a great knife for edc. Personally I think it it is too expensive for what you get. I feel you pay a lot for the brand name. With all the really great budget knives on the market I think Spyderco should lower their prices not increas them. But they make great knives! No doubt about that. Thank you for giving us your take on it!

Rat 2 in D2 blows it out of the water in price and performance. VG10 is old news.

@NightClubO'Holic Yeah I have never spine whacked it but I use it daily for opening boxes and some food prep. Not hard use, and never an issue. But, if I did have a failure as you did, then I would send it in for a new one each time and see if I got a better one. Yes, for sure D2 has been around a while, but what I actually meant by "Old News" is that D2 is a much stronger steel for me that VG10 and most companies don't use VG10 a whole lot and for the same money, use D2. I was always sharpening my Delica on my EdgePro, and that's after stropping often! D2 holds a great edge, but it does rust since it's a tool steel. So VG10 has it beat there, but I would take D2 over VG10 any day. But I have a thing for Spyderco. I think they are overpriced, and I do ow n many. For almost the same money, I bought a Cold Steel Code 4 in XHP for the same ballpark $$ as a Delica in VG10. Granted, I got it as closeout prices, but with the TriAd lock, now there really is not comparison. But we are talking Rat and Delica. Still, D2 is a better "Old News" Steel.

I really don't get the Delica, I think it's hideous and is way overpriced vs the competition. Also, my hand always wants to choke up into that dead spot that's not a finger choil but seems like it should be made into one.

BTW .. you can purchase two or three of these delica4 for the price of that overrated overpriced Benchmade BUGOUT which starts at $160 Plus... Plus you run the risk of the Omega springs in the Benchmade breaking... The delica lock back is a strong strong locking system... Never seen it fail

I think these are just a little too much for what's offered, the budget knife realm has just become too competitive for them. And yes I'm saying this as an owner, with the way the market looks now I wouldn't buy it again. Yes the design is nice but there are many equally nice designs that are equal or better in everything else for less money, CIVIVI and kizer vanguards come to mind, the boker patriot is another for the U.S. made only crowd. This is just my opinion from my point of view of course.

You make an excellent point and I agree that the budget knife market has become much better in the recent past. I dont think it will cause ant effect to Spyderco or Benchmade's pricing. I just wait for the next really good budget knife to come out!

@@BigRedEDC Yeah while I'm never going to be a fanboy Jody but I certainly do appreciate the ones I have. I bought the Chaparral with the FRN handle which has an amazing grip without having hot spots. And I also own a combo blade Lil Native 5 that's a really handy knife. I really am going to have to give some consideration to the PM family as well.

I am thinking of looking at the Para 3. Seems like it would be the right size for me and it has G10 scales and the compression lock! I am really digging the compression lock!
