Spyderco Kapara Hype Vs Reality

This is the hype vs reality review of the Spyderco Kapara, with S30v steel and manufactured in the Taichung factory. This is not the new CQI version of the Kapara, so keep that in mind when it comes to the action. This is a comprehensive review, with specs, size comparisons, and footage of me cutting with the knife.

Best video I've seen on this knife. Great eye for geometry; both for blade AND ergonomics. Appreciated.

I really liked the review. It wasn't a Spyderco commercial like many of the Kapara reviews I have scene. I am glad it mainly lived up to. Enjoyed seeing it cut and be a knife.

Your lighting is nice. I keep seeing people comparing the Kapara to the PM2. Two different worlds entirely. The Kapara is not an improved PM2 at all. Two purposes that couldn't be much further apart. Food Prep and tactical? Just venting. You caught the brunt of my rage. (smiling) Great video. Good eye. 🤙 I love both.

I watched several reviews on this one. Yours is first that focused on cutting something else other than food, which is what Alistair designed it for. Now having seen it slice up card board like that I am more interested in having one. Have you taken this one apart and cleaned it, I've seen some that are absolute guillotines! By the way, I prefer closing my Shaman with my thumb!
@inthepocket7405
@inthepocket7405 4 года назад
Hiker Marapese Yeah, I don’t really understand why everyone thinks to turn this into a kitchen knife, Kitchen knives are the best kitchen knife hahaha I did not take this apart, but John said he had to play with it quite a bit to get it to the action you saw. The new CQI versions seem to be full on guillotines lol yeah, I like the thumb drop down on the compression locks:) it has that back lock feel, and it feels more familiar.
@mikecurry6847
@mikecurry6847 3 года назад
@@inthepocket7405 I totally agree on the kitchen knives being best for food. I've never understood it when someone says they keep a folder in the kitchen. That is unless someone is just itching to use the knife, I can understand that part I guess.

The Kapara really looks like Spyderco’s version of the Benchmade 940.
@MrNickjberry
@MrNickjberry 4 года назад
I feel like the Kapara is very similar to the Caly3.5, with poorer ergonomics. No jimping, heavier, and thicker. I do love this knife, but some jimping would have been very nice to have especially with the smooth scales.
@inthepocket7405
@inthepocket7405 4 года назад
I’ve never handled a caly 3.5, but the thicker contoured handles will have better ergonomics then thin flat scales, in my experience. And the absence of pointless jimping is a positive in my opinion. To me, those aspects make a more comfortable to use knife, that I have no issues with slipping out of my hand.
@Galeocerdo123
@Galeocerdo123 4 года назад
It was also by design. Alistair didn't want too much stuff that could get food stuck, since it was mainly developed as a food prep edc knife.

@inthepocket7405
@inthepocket7405 4 года назад
I would say, it would be between the Bugout and Kapara. They are both excellent options that are light and slim. The Kapara will have a bigger footprint in the pocket, but has a longer cutting edge. The Bugout will be lighter and thinner in the pocket though.

If you like this style of knife but don't want to pay the _INSANE_ prices Spydercos are going for these days, buy the Civivi Vision FG. It's 99% as good for less then half the price. Nitro-V isn't S30V but it's still a decent steel and neither of these knives are "hard use" knives they're intended to be good for food prep and EDC use.

GravityRoller yeah, sometimes you specify hundredths, and more of the decimal placings. Especially when it ends on that spot... for instance: .16. You can say it either way, really, and you could technically say one tenth as well. Thank you

@GravityRoller 4 года назад
@@inthepocket7405 Hilarious argument you're attempting to make using "for instance: .16. You can say it either way, really, and you could technically say one tenth as well." "Really" ...? How "technically" would 0.16" EVER be expressed as "one tenth" ?
