check out my Spyderco Manix 2 after the Flytanium cage ball lock. The aluminum cage ball lock made it smoother! but cutting the spring made it more awesomer. Give my channel a follow! Spyderco, Manix2, Manix 2, Flytanium, Flytanium Handle Scales.

Shorten the spring, less tension to open the knife, the same amount of safety just less pressure on your fingers. Makes perfect sense to me.

Nice knife!! Cool mod. I don't mind the color, it offers a nice contrast. Someday will have a manix. Love G10 handles

The mod was such an improvement!!!! Red is one of my favorite colors but it bugs the crap out of me on this knife but thanks for the compliment. Flytanium didn't have the Black in and I have zero patience so I ordered red. Oh, and yes, BUY A Manix2! You'll love it.

Don't be so sure you will love the G10 on the Manix. It is not my first Spydie. I have a Yojumbo, a PM2, and bought my daughter a Para3. NONE of them have the same G10 my Manix does. It is just the right pitch and depth to where it causes a cringe when my thumb nail drags across it. Seriously, it is like nails on a chalkboard. I have plenty of G10 scales, some on other knives, some on Spydies and HATE the G10 on the Manix. I am desperately trying to find micarta scales for it now. I still carry the knife, I just know it needs new scales and a new ball cage.

Dude, I am right there with ya! I just got my Manix 2 XL, I know I need the ball cage that isn't a plastic POS and plan on getting one asap. I have also been a "cross bar lock" or "plunge lock" fan since the VERY FIRST one was released (BM Model 710 around 1999). I totally agree - the amount of pressure needed to operate this lock is RIDICULOUS. I am hoping to get a lighter spring and ceramic ball with my new cage but, if there is no other spring option, coils will be cut. On a side note - if you think the lock is smoother on that other brand (that I will no longer support), then you should try the ABEL lock on the Hogue Ritter. No BS the smoothest, most well build production folder I have ever owned. I don't edc it, I prefer larger, more "task specific" knives but it is damn near folding perfection. Get one, if you don't already have one, you won't regret it.

Wow. That's awesome. I might get around to getting a Hogue Ritter some day. Thanks for your input!

the "Plastic POS" part has NO influence on Blade drop, NONE. Its all in the spring. Your a victim of Monkey See,Monkey do. Never once has anyone said the POS part was the problem.
@Ten_Mil_Will
@Ten_Mil_Will 23 дня назад
@@tjp-re4du Yea, I'm sure that is some of it - the "mine's cooler because...." factor. I ended up leaving that knife bone stock. Would I prefer a Ti ball cage? Absolutely, but it got pushed way back on my list. No1 has ever had a problem with the plastic? Great, No1 has ever said it was BETTER than Ti either. So...
@Sanguivore
@Sanguivore Час назад
@@tjp-re4du Considering you have to actuate the "plastic POS" for the blade to drop, it absolutely does have influence over that. I like Spyderco as much as the next person, but the plastic cage is simply not good enough for this knife. Does it function? Sure. Does it function as well as it *should* for a nearly $200 knife? No way in hell. Better spring and better bearing cage is practically a necessary upgrade on the stock Manix 2. For as much as the Glessers listen to their fans and customers on other things, not sure why they haven't read the room on this yet. Maybe we get a Manix 3 sometime soon that fixes the issue or something.

I hate my Manix 2 lock. It takes WAY too much effort to pull it back, and it’s sticky when locked. Regrettably I opened the box long after the return period and the cost to return to Spyderco, I might just try this.
@Sanguivore

Lemme know how it works out for you, friend! My Manix 2 is *insanely* hard to actuate as well. Everyone I've talked to has either said there's no way it is, or I just need to keep playing with it and using it and it'll break in. Well despite the fact that I actuate the lock hundreds of times a day, and probably over a thousand times on the night I got it, it hasn't broken in a lick-in fact, I'd say the action has gotten *worse.*

Ever consider just getting a weaker spring? I don’t know where but ocd4edc did a video I think.

Cool. No, I hadn't looked into that. Probably a great idea for folks that might want to put the factory spring back in.

@@OutdoorGearAddiction My pleasure. I wasn't sure when the new spring & ball kits were released, but like you said, sharing helps everyone. Maybe they released the lighter spring (smaller dia.) because some YT dude was cutting their spring to make things work? lol

Great knife! Do you know if the flytanium also fits the xl?

It sure does! But doesn't fit the lightweight frn models since they are pinned to rhe frame instead of screwed.

@@CloudSpecter awesome! So glad you like it. I'm not allowed to tell folks to do that but if they do, they'll probably love it. The spring mod was a better upgrade functionally than the aluminum ball cage lock.

Is the red button part plastic or aluminum? Cheers

The red lock ball bar is aluminum. I purchased it from Flytanium. Wanted black but didn't have it in stock. I should have waited for black and hated the red with black and Satin

Oh and lemme ask ya one question - does that aluminum ball cage provide more "purchase" for your thumb? I feel like I could slip off the stock one. I know part of that is from the insane spring weight but would still like more grip on the actuator pad.
@OutdoorGearAddiction

I seems to have slightly better purchase but I think it just feels better because the spring mod and because it isn't plastic. Haha
